The first tiling was to get the old farm fenced, then tin. old timber off, then the stumps, and next the boulder stonos, but funning all time the best we could. We soon fouuu the rich and low land too wet, as then are two small wet weather streams nw- iugAhrough the place, making a great ,dL*V. necessary. As |to the (Wofthe land ft is generally good, bui it is very spotted, there being nearly every variety of land to be ioimd on ten aeiv.-, that is common to t lie country. There are some very poor spots that we call white beach land, and cold, rather asliv which will not produce corn, or in lad anythingol much account until it is wed fertilized. We now have over seven hun dred rods of tile, ditch, and over three hundred rods ot open ditch. Now lor our course ol rotation. lm- old farm where people used to starve, produces as large* crops as inrms mow tavorahly situated, and has honored all the ilral'ts that have been drawn upon it, which have been many and heavy. Mv principal crops have always been corn, wheal and clover, and my mode of rota tion is, lirsl, we will say corn, followed by wheat, sowed in corn and clover. 1 have sown wheat three times in suc cession, successfully when 1 here was no wheat midge to interfere, but not com monly, ami always my clover-seed with corn; have alvvavs managed to have as much sod for corn as 1 could, hauling out all the manure on the corn ground that was made on the farm every year, aud all tba-1 could buy in our little village. When we first came hero I was troquent- ly twitted, while hauling manure, with. “ Ah. you have come to that, have you f’ They had never hauled any themselves, am! have since nearly all gone West. 1 now have good buildings and as many as wo need. And I now have to say that as long as I am able, 1 expect to see that the once poor old farm shall be well-fad from drafts on the farmers’ bank : the rotation kept lip as heretofore, and ! shall Nmoa confidently expect bountiful crops, as the old farm is better to-day than ever befor< I also use all the ashes that. I can got, having hauled them live miles. P. P. Rifxer. Increased Flow of Milk. A correspondent semis us the follovvim extract from one of his papers, and ask “ whether there is anything in it or not:” “Tepid water, slightly salted, given twice a day, will increase the flow one-third. 71 tilt' cow will not drink it at first trial scat ter a handful ot bran or meal over tin top of it. They soon become very fond of it, and will drink all you givo them. I tried this plan three years ago with perfect success. 1 had only one cow, and she was of the common scrub stock of the country, and after she begun to drink t!i water prepared as above, she furnishe me twice a day two ordinary water buckets full of milk, and by feeding a lit tle corn boiled with cotton seed the milk yielded butter enough to supply my table bountifully, and leave me a lew pounds to sell every week. I gave her three gallons of water twice a day.” We have never tried the experiment, but can readily be lieve that warm water, especially in cold weather, will increase the flow of milk, especially i! a libera! sprinkling of'o:un is placed mi its surface, but the writer has probably made the very common misiako of measuring results i>v the quantity of milk. We very much doubt whethei in ordinary weather a cow thus treated w II make any more butter : the result noted was most likely produced by feeding brae, or a little corn boiled with Cotton seed.” As our correspondent proposes to make the lest, he should try an equal amount of bran ami corn without the extra suppk ol water, lfieh milk must have some °ther source than warm water —Ex.
