270 iEuftSt PASTORAL UAL LAD. H Y ANNA SEWARD. O, SHARE my cottage, dearefl maid ! Beneath a mountain, wild aj>d high, It nellies, in a (llent glade ; And WFiye’ clear currents wander by. Each tender care, each honed art, Shall chafe all future want from thee, When thy sweet lips consent. impart To climb these flccpy hills with me. Fur from the city’s vain parade, No fcornful brow shall here be seen : No dull impertinence invade , Nor envy bale nor lullcn fplcen. “The (hadowy rocks which circle round From Harms lhall guard our iylvian cell; And there shall ev’ry joy be found That loves in peaceful vales to dwell. When late the tardy fun shall peer, And faintly glide yon little spire; When nights are long, andfrofls severe, And our clear hearth is bright with fire, Sweet tales to rend—sweet longs to (in* ! O. they shall drown the wind and rain E’en till the foftened season bring Merry spring-time back, again ! Then hawthorns Jlow’ring in the glen, Shall guard the warbling plumy throng ; Nor boait the busy haunts of men So fair a fccne, so sweet a song. Thy arms the new-yean : d lamb will fiiield. And so the funny fheltcr bear; While o’er the rough and breathing field, My hands impel the gleaming fbre. Ne’er doubt our wheaten ears will rife, And full’their yellow harvest glow : Then prove, with me, the sprightly joys That love and industry bellow. Their jocund power can bandit fliifc, Her clouds no palling day will lee, Since all the leifuve hour* of life Shall flill befpent in pleaftng thee. SENTIMENTAL PERFUMERY.
