THE SEAMAN'S HOME
OH ye, whofc lives on land are pafs’d,
And krrp from dang’rous fcas aloof ;
Who carelels lillcn to thtr'blaft.
Or beating rains upon the roof:
\ on little heed how learrien fare,
Condemn’d tlie angry fiorrn to bear.
Sometime*, when breakers vex the tide,
He takes his flation on the deck ;
And now lafh’d o’er the vcffels fide ;
Hr clears away the cuinbring wreck. :
Yet while the billows o’er him foam,
The Ocean is hi* only home.
otill iiefhcr blows the midnight gale !
“ All hands, reef lop-lails,” are the cries,
And while the clouds the heaven veil,
Aloft to reef the fail he flics !
In florms so rending, doom’d to roam,
The Oc can is the Seaman’s home.
From the London Magazine.
WOODEN Actors, like human ones, are
not without their loyalty. A puppettfhow
man, a few nights ago, at Balton, in Lancalter
fhir-, introduced, by wav of interlude, a battle
between “ Tom Pain and the Devil 1” It isun
ceifary to fay that poor Tom very soon fell in
to the hands of hi % sooty Majcfy ; when the lat
ter, afuft-'d by the red ot hts wooden compeers,
funjj Goifave thr King over Tom’s body : after
which the black gentleman mads his bow, and
re'.ned with his brother Actors, vociferating
Church and King.
