306 iHufes. HTMN ON WAR, WHILE founds of War are heard around, And death and rnin strew the ground; ?o tliee we look, on thee we call, he Parent and the Lord of all. Thou, who haft damp'd on human kind The image of a hcav’n-born mind, And in a father’s wide embrace Haft cherifh’d all the kindred race; O fee 1 with what infatiate rage Thy sons their impious battles wage ; How spreads deftruHion like a flood, And brothers shed their brothers blood ! See guilty paffiems spring to birth, And deeds of hell deform the earth; While righteousness and justice mourn, And love and pity droop forlorn. Great God S wl*fe pow’rful hand can bind The raging wa\cs, the furious wind, O bid the human tempest cease, And hush the mad’ning world to peace. With rev’rence may each hoftileland Hear and obey that high command, Thy Son’s bled errand from above, “ My creatures, live in mutual love ?’* AN EC DOT l.
