The above news had, however, such an ef fe6l on the Funds, as to lower the confols near one per cent. October 8. By the Cumberland, capt. Watson, who ar rived at Durimouth on the 4th instant, from Newfoundland, we learn that the French squad ron at that place consisted of nine fail of the line, three of which were three deckers, and fix ships of 74 guns each, brfides several fri gates. They landed 1500 men at the Bay of Bulls, and 2000 at Portugal Cove, and with this force were marching to attack St John’s.
