NEW-YORK, Dee. t 4.
Afirioui tauft if Alarm !
Citizens ot New-York, you arc
once more called upon to attend to your
fafetjr. It is no longer a doubt —it is a
Ml, that there is a combination ot in
cendiaries in this city, aiming to wrap
the whole of it in flames !—-The house
of Mr. Lewis Ogden, in Pearl-street,
has been twice fet'on fire--the evidence
of malicious intention is indubitable —
and he has sent his black man, fufpefted,
toprifon. Last night an attempt was
made to let tire to Mr. Lindsay's house
in Greenwich -ft reet —the combustibles
left tor the purpofc arc preserved as evi
dcnce of the fatt. Another attempt, we
learn, was made last night in Beekman
ftrect. A bed was set on tire under a
child, and his cries alarmed the family.
Route, fellow-citizens and Magis
trates—your property are at
flake. Double your night-watch—and
confine your Servants.

the negociation which is entered upon,
will terminate ia peace.
The foregoing extract,is from a letter
brought by the brig Relxrcca, captaiu
Thompson, this day arrived from Liv

Liverpool papers to the 25th October,
we learn, are in town ; they nuke no
mention of any hopes of peace.

Extra A of a Utter from St. Croix, dated
December 8, to a rcfpe&able gentleman
in this city.
“ We have a very diftrefled time here
at prclent—men, women and children,
arc coining here from Anguilla, which
place being invaded by the French about
a fortnight ago, they fled tor their lives,
leaving behind them every thing they
had, to the mercy ot the enemy, who
deilroyed and plundered every* thing
they could—the place however is again
restored, by the afliftance of 2 Engiilh
ihips of war, that were sent from St.
Kitts; they made great havoc among
the I rench, blowed up one of their
thips, and took a Brig. When they
found the Fnglifh would conquer, rather
than be taken, many of them cut their
