aforefaid, in the fchr. Prudence bound to
Amelia-Bland, laden with a cargo confid
ing of rice, cotton, Hour, bacon, candles,
&c.„ the faidlihr. Prudence lad a; as afore*
said, proceeded on her intended voyage,,
( and tliat nothing material occurring, Until ■
the 13th day of June, at .8 o’clock, A. M.
in eroding Doboy Sound a boat was difeo
vered coming down Doboy river, foppoied
her to be tlie Revenue boat ; on the boat’s
nearing the schooner, we then thought her
to belong to lome man-of-war, or priva
teer, every exertion was made to run the
* schooner on ftiore, which could not be ac
compli'lied. The Prudence was then
boarded and taken poffcflion of by fix arm
ed rnep (rotn the privateer schooner Dafti, •
of Nassau, John Pindev, cotnmanider; Mr. I
Whitehead, (the lieutenant of the Pad.) |
who took poffcflion of the Prudence, de
manded who v ‘as Pilot, Siffon replied that,
Mr. Small was his Pilot for the Inland
Navigation, but knew nothing about any
lof the Bars. The gunner of the Dafti,
then on board the Prudence, told Small
it he did not heave the lead (which Small
1’ refufed) he would ciit him down, (the gun
ner at this time having-a cutlass ii> hie
, hand.) The wind ,was frapi North to
j North-weft, until the Prudence got with
j in about a mile and a half of the bar—
the privateer’s boat previous to the Pru
dence coming to anchor, went, with four
armed men, after the (loop Good-Intent,
1 then in fight. Mr. Whitehead - said if he,
could get the other veflels out which had
been captured, he Would give the Prudence
up——the Good-Intent, after her capture,
S was brought to anchor astern of us. Al
ter (he was anchored the two men who re
mained on board our veflel left us and
went on board the Good-Intent. There
was on bpard the Prudence orn; mufleet
which was loaded by Marfhajl, by Siffon’s
orders, and put under a bale of Cotton
where it could not be difepvqred. Siffon
tofd all tbe crew if the'yeflel was carried
over the bar, and an opportunity offered
shat night, he would, if they would aflift,
re-take her. Marftiaft was ordered by
Siffon to bore .a hole in tlie bottom of the
schooner, which was done and caused her
to make a great deal of water. Siffon told
Mr. Whitehead that from tlie leaky situ
ation of the vessel, and (he being only fit
, ted for the inland navigation, that (he could
not With fafety go to sea. Siffon withgwd

five boxes caudles away—a .quantity of
bacon belonging to the cargo 1 , was taken

head was told that we had no nrovifion, ‘
water or compass, he promised as fome wa
| ter, which however we did not get; we
1 were kept possession of by the Dafti until
12 o’clock at night, in eleven fathoms wa
ter ; no compass, and only half a gallon
| of water on board for all hands, the vessel
was given up, and in this situation were
we obliged to proceed—we got into St.
Simons’ where, by their own request, fome
oi the prisoners were landed. We got a
fupplv of water and proceeded to Amelia ;
no assistance directly or indirectly was gi
en by’ us in working or piloting the fchr.
