Nfw-York Market, Friday, Aug. 30th 1828.
—T-fie Market this week has been uncommonly
dull ; Vvc have few transactions to report, and tire
changes made on our quotations are unimportant.
As on the Ist September, that section of the pre
sent obn >xious Tariff goes into ope ration, which
relates to iron, Steel, Lead, and thoir manufac
ture*. we have this day regulated our rates of
duties in conformity.
Bread. —The advance on Pilot Bread which we
noticed in our last is supported—we have no far-,
,ther alteration to notice.
Cotton. —Tilt accounts from Liverpool to the
16th July, which we publisher! a few day* ago,
and the still later accounts, per Josephine, which
we lay before our readers'this morning, have had
no effect upon our market ; it remains without
anv percept aide change in price. The sales from
23d inst. till last evening, inclusive, ,wc climate
at 2200 biles of all sorts ; comprising 1050 bales
phnds from 9 3-4 a 12, (-10 bales inferior at 9 3-4
nr(i
from 10 1-4 a 11 L 2 ; 500.. hades Alabama fiom 10
al3 ; (504>ales.superior at 13 cash, the balance
from 10 a 12) and 650 bales Nevv-Orieans and
Tennessee, from 10 1-2 a 12. We make ho
change on our quotations.
Cotton Bugging. —The price remains without
alteration, L::t the demand is limited.
Domestic Goods. —The demand is limited, and
1-be sales ><iave been principally at auction, at a re
duction from last week's rates.
Fish. —About 200 quintals Grand Bank Codfish,
have been sold at 275. including packages—the
market is now bare of this description, while of
other kinds of Codfish, there is ft fair supply here ;

MACON SALES
OF THE RESERVE LANDS, THE TOWN
LOTS, AND
THE BRIDGE,
commence on Wednesday the first day
V w of next October, and will continue froni
day to day, with the exception of the first Mon
day and Tuesday of that’month. We shall thert
expose to sale in Macon, to the highest bidder, in
conformity with a late act of the Gbnera! Assem
bly : .
All the town lots not heretofore disposed of;
:eing upwards of one hundred in number; on the
western side of the river : among them are twelve
adjoining the river, and a few other choice lots for
business. The residue are in more retired situa
tions, and generally afford goqd building sites ins
pleasant and growing part of the town. .
Forty-two gardening lots of 10 and 20 acres
each; ‘laid out from Ito 1 1-2 miles distant from
the town in two ranges around the Western Com
mon. Also, twenty eight lots on the Eastern side:
that is to say, 4 of twenty, 8 of ten acres, and 16 of
one acre each These last include the place some
times known as Newtown ; and will be sold, sub
ject to certain leases from the United States, to
expire next January. .
The residue of the lands in the two reserves,
are laid out in tracts of 100 acres 5 and fractional
parts of such tracts. Os these, the uplands will
be next offered; the last numbers first; keginnui£
with those on.the’Western side. •
Oij Wednesday the22d of October next, at II
o’clock A. M. will be offered at the place of thn
other sales, the ‘ t J
BRIDGE AT MACON,
Together with one acre of land on the eastern side
of the Ocmiilgee river, as one ofthe butmenls;
and the privilege of using so much of Fifth or
Bridge street on the western bank as may be ne
cessary for the other butnient of the Bridge.
On Thursday the 23d of October, we shall pro
ceed to sell the swamp and bottom lands within
the Reserves, those on the Western side first; and’
continue from day to day until completed.
The particular numbers that will be sold on each
day cannot be specified ; but it is intended to put up
I the several kinds and descriptions inthe order uvi*
mentioned, - •> *•
The Reserves are generally well watered and
contain several good mill seats The area of the
whole cannot be exactly known until the platting
is completed ; but tu enty-one thousand acres is
the estimated quantity contained in both Reserves
and the adjoining fractions, exclusive of the town
surveys. Perhaps no body of land of the same
extent can be found that embraces a greater va
riety in its surface, sqil and timber. Situated just
in that region where the pine of the lower country
changes to the oak and hickory of the upper • it
includes both these growths, and soils in most of
their varieties; in some portions entire, in others
interspersed or blended. Tracts of very hilly land,
or thaA which is quite level; or gently undulating,
may be had of almost every quality ; either of oak
and hickory, or pine, or river lands; and several
of thd'se kinds occasionally united ; in tracts of
100 acres and fractions of various sizes, adapted
to most of the purposes for which land is wanted.
From the pressure of the times ; and more es
pecially from the quantity of lands and town lots,
that will have been lately in the market, these
must unavoidedly sell low. And, lying at the
head of navigation, immediately around the third
town of the State in population and trade, theia
is every reasonable prospect of their seoir rising
in value. -f
Purchasers have now an opportunity, and appa
pareutly the last that will soon offer, of obtaining
on cheap and very indulgent terms of payment#
choice situations for residence, for trade or for
farming.
TERMS OF SALE.
Purchasers of lands and lots are to pay the Com
missioners on the day of the purchase, one fifth
part of the purchase money in Cash or current
bills of chartered hanks of this State ; and the re
sidu ein four equal annual instalments No secu*
rity will be lequired.
The Bridge will be sold on the same terms ; ex
ccpt that the purchaser will be required to give
bond with two or more approved sureties for the
payment of the four subsequent annual instal
ments. ‘ ,
