Loss of the Brig Buonaparte. —The uncertainty which lias for a considerable time veiled the fate of tills vessel is now removed, and the melancholy certainty of her total wreck, ; and of the loss of five of the crew and one passenger, has been An nounced by one of the passengers, who returned to this city a few days ago. The Buonaparte was owned by Mr. J. Ryan. She sailed from that port on the 6th Nov. last, and went on shore in a snow storm in the Strait of Belisle, on the 20th of the same month. On the 21st she was abandoned as a total wreck; the crew, ten in number, and two passengers, took to the boat, and great exertions were made to reach the shore, but every effort was fruitless, owing to a tempestuous surf. The boat was finally swamped, and melancholy to re late, the captain, mate, steward, two seamen and Mr. Falconer, one of the passengers, sunk to rise no moro : the six survivors shore by swimming, and others by clinging to the boat.— Capt. Ryan was tho son of Mr. Jas. Ryan, Post master of Chambly ; ho was an experienced n:i riner, and a man whose vigilance and urbanity had always ensured the approbation of owners and passengers. Belzoni died ou board an Arne- ! rican vessel, then under Capt R.’s command, and ho was one of the few who was present at the interment of that celebrated traveller,, on the coast of Benin. Mr. Falconer was a native of Aberdeen, and for many years a resident of this city. The sur vivors suffered great piivations during the winter season; living partly with the white people and partly with the Indians.
