The Pacific Railroad question is attracting much
attention in 'Ljxa*. The Kod Antonio Ledger has
an article on The subject, in which, as might be
expected, the ecitor avows hi* prefer, uco for the
Southern route. He remark* that the highway
from tho Atlantic to the Pacific concerns Texas in
an eminent degree, and thus concludes:
We confe-sthat we wish to see its eastern Mis
sissippi terminus at Memphis, and tiie route con
tinue thence to Little Rock, Ark., and thence by
the most feasible route through our Stato to or
near El Paso on tho Rio Grande. There are strong
and controverting influences to contend against in
the North, Northwest, and at St. Louis, and we
cannot commence our efforts too soon, or be too
unremitting in oar zeal; else, in the many pro
jecta proposed, we may lose the incalculable ad
vantages to be derived from this mammoth enter
prise. Let us urge it upon the citizen* of Texas to
be np and doing—cull a State Convention, and let
us have our route ready for presentation to the next
Congress.
