CHARLESTON, Feb. 8. — OfMon— There was a very
general and a tive demand for most qualities of this article
during the two days preceding the date of our hrt pub li

wilh prices indicating rather an advancing tendency. Tne
mid 1 ir.g qu.i’itieß *t t e,tirue were lull at 9>i(g.9#c.; and

the week under review—having been limited to some 12 0
bale*, hut prices fully sustained their former position.
Thus stood matters when the trade were put in possession
of t e ad vie s brought ove- by tbestCHmer Atlantic, which
exercised an UMfavor jble influence over our market. Dur
ing S turda-., the day on which the.*e advlcescatne to band,
the transactions were limited to about IcOO bales, and the
market man fe«*cd a lnn-nUI and drooping appearance.
On Mouday, the want of confld nee was more stroDgly de
veloped, the tales having been limited to some 50u biles at
prices all of from the 1 ighest point of the previous
week; and the s lies of Tuesday, whkli we:e confined to
about 1200 bah 8, were made at even a lower range of
figures. The accounts, however, by the Asia, which were
published in the papers of thecity, of Wednesday morning,
wei enot as b. Iligerant as those previously received, and
seemed to restore confidence to the trade, which manifest
ed it elf in a de; ided increase in the demand for i his stapl : t
accompanied with a better range of prices, which, at the

NOTICE TO COTTON PLANTERS
IMPROVED COTTON OlNS.—Thesubscriberwould
iolorm the Planter! of Georgia and the adjacent State!,
that be continues to manufacture COTTON GINS of a supe
rior quality, at his factory three mile* ea»t of the city ol
Macon,on the Central Railroad. Having, within the last
year, enlarged his Factory and made great additions to hit
machinery, and hatting the very best of workmen, he is now
prepared to supply the country with Oist unsurpassed (In
any respect) by any made in the United States. The sub
scriber would not speak disparagingly ofany Gin Factor)
inthsßtate; yet he thinks it no presumption to lay that
his Gins are more universally approved than those fron
any factory. Every Gin sent from his factory within tht
las year has given entire satisfaction; he has not heard
th first complaint, but has been informed by many, tbs
h i Gins are superior in every respect to any they havt
ever seen in use; andin ail probability, ther« ,s no other
factory in the Btat that has met Ti'.ii such success. H,
attributes the hne performance of his Gins to the persona
attention which they receive from him in their construc
tion. Every Gin that leaves his factory, is closely inspect
ed by him during the time of its building and afterwards
Hehas never desired, neitherdoeshe ever intend to, buiid
more GiDS than be can properly see to himself. Therefore,
all those who purchase Gins of him, may with confldencr
expect a good one, for he assures the public that no other
kind Bhallleave his shop, as bis undivided attention will in
future be given to the building of Gins.
As an evidence of their superior quality, he refers tht
public not only to bis numerous patrons, but also to the
premium list of the last Agricultural Fair of the State o)
Georgia, where it will be seen he took the premium over al
hia competitors, (some of whom wera quite formidable.)
and injustice to them he would say they exhibited spec!
mens of work hard to beat. And as still further evidence
of the character of his gins, he would state that the Com
mittee appointed to award the premium after the exami
nation made by them, each purchased a gin from him be*
fore they left the ground. And notwithstanding the late
ness of the season, his gins were so much liked by people
visiting the Fair, that he sold twenty during the week. Be
is well prepared to try all hia gins before they leave the fac
tory ; but he deems it unnecessary from the fact that all
his gins are made alike. He does not build a poor gin for
one man and a good one for another. But he will try all
gins when requested to do so.
Contracts can be made with my traveling agents, or by
letter addressedto mo at Macon, Georgia. -All order* will
receive prompt attention. , 0. W. MASSES.
