known to have uttered, and the only one
upon that subject, was on intemperance.
It is said to have been remarkable for the
dearness, precision ,and elegance of its lan
guage, the cogency and eloquence of its
thought and the impressive manner in
'which it was pronounced. Since that time
she has delivered herself of nothing on iu
temerance. The premonitory symptom
of her impromptu* is usuaHtfh fit of stupor.
As soon as she comes out of that, site rises,
. closes her eyes, and appears petfertly>b-
atracted fiom every thing about her, com
mehces by repeating a hymn, which some
times is original, and of tho higher order of
poetry. She thengives out a text, naming the
chapter and verse, and proceeds to deliv
er a sermon always couspicueus for its
argument, its logical and connected se
quences and its rich and appealing senti
ments, while its construction is grammatical
nnd its expressions eloquent and pure.-’-
What especially astonishes the hearers, ir
the fact, that when the inspiration lias
gone, she recollects not a word of whutshe
has been saying, and if told the chapter
end verse 1 of her text and the number of
her hymn, she knows not how or where to
find them; Her. parents reside In NeW

and intemperate people, and her education
has beeifueglectedj that she reads with tho
greatest difficulty.
What is more marvelous still, sho dis

lectual capacity, except when the spirit of
the improvuatore possesses her. Several
physicians have examined her both when
in and out of her lunatics, acd yet have
found no marks of disoase or insanity.
During the delivery of her speeches, she is
cool, collected and mild, and her pulse is
always regular.
