believe that'any Uuag wfflbe done which will bo

this state ha-i always bitterly opposed a reduction
of die naraber of the members of the legislature,
until public opinion bOsame Se strong in favour of
it that they found it necessary to,cdase their open
opposition. Thoagh they ndw prQfoss to he the
ttiivocatesof reduction: wo behove it Is only pro-

they will thereforehdopt some plan of reduction .,

made: they will therefore addpt shch a system as

This t^ritcr has found ImiKctl mistaken in his
calculations. It is true- not that one Convention
had been broken ap by secession, but that an ai-
tc.upt had bean made to do it. The minority in
this Convention is composed of diilerent materi
als. Thejr did cot feel themselves at liberty in
desert their posts beeuuso they could not carry ev
ery tiling according to their own views. They
feel thut they have met for tho purpose ofbunelit-
ling the coantry, and if they cunnot do alltile good
fliey could desire, they Will at loa.t remain nnd
provent all the evil they can. Not so with the so-
ceders from the Inst Convention; they deser'ed
thoir posts when they professed to believe that the
country was threatened with great danger, when
perchance fiicy might by remaining liavo nvorieil
the blow by their mildness, and the wisdom of
their ronnsel.
Tho Montgomeiy (Alab.) Journal of
tho 4th instant, has the following arti-
“The votes of Messrs,J Forsyth and
Wayne, upon the “ Force Bill," have
beeu the subjects of presentment with the
grand juries, in several of the Counties of
Georgia. They have also been invited to
resign, liy the same, bodies. Unless wo
are deceived, public opinion is setting voi jj
strongly against these gentlemen ill Geor
gia. They will find it u most difficult
matter to sustain themselves, at the next
elections. Rumor says that General
Jackson will pay Mr. Foisyth for his fi
delity to him by giving him a Gibinel an-
pointment. Wo suspeci that t)»adrmnis-
(ration does not think that Mr, Wayne is
worth buying at a high rate.”
We refer tho Editor of the Journal to
the vote of the Convention n( Georgia,
making Mr. Wayne their President,'over
die old and faithful public servant, Wlii.
H., Crawford. His overwhelming vote
must be ascribed to the desire of the Pee
ples delegates to show that Messrs. Wayne
& Forsyth's traducers in and out of the
State, are wofully deceived ns to the pub
lic-opiuion of Georgia with regard to the
public course of these gentlemen. Mr.
Qtawford in a Union tuun or his vote would
doubtless have been smaller.—Georg. ■
The Georgian takes the election of Mr. Wayne
as President of the Convention ns evidence ol'tlio
popularity of !ii» course with reference to tl)c Force
11111. We have seen too in the same paper the
dinner offered toMr. Forsyth in this place referred
to as evidence of hit popularity. We eannut be
hove that the people of Georgia approve of the
course of these gentlemen widi reference, lo this
bill; lit all events if Judge Wayne’s election does
not give a more correct expression of the opinions
and feelings of die people of Georgia with regard
to biin than.tbe lender of sdinner to Mr.'Forayth in

wo havo knowo or heard very few of the citizens
of this place had any idea of giving Mr. Fftrsyih a
