number of tho Standard of Union, in regard
to a sentiment of the patriotic ,Troup.—
We will give this sentiment as Troup him-
-self gave it, and then ask our readers, if they
can by possibility, (keepiug truth in view,)
make :he same use of it es is done by the
paper to which we tefer.
(iov. Troup sent as a Toast, the following:

the support of those only Who would have
made it at first, ns'they would now, a con
solidated and arbitrary government.”
Now, what, to the plainest understanding,
To those Gentlemen Watson and Brit,
we have no objeciion-perioually but to titoir
eolttics generally wa have. -One of them
Col. Britt has not hesitated.to declare pub-
ticly that** he was opposed to the State of
Georgia in the contest with Hie General
Government; in 18£j>.and would be again
trader similar circumstances.
Clark Men who love your country are
you prepared to support such principles us

when a military force was stationed on her
borders for tlm purpose of awing you into

clare that in that struggle be was against the
State and would be again under similar cir
cumstances Wo hope not—we believe
not and wo believe that your votes on
unbiassed by prejudice dr error, can be j Monday next will show it,
made of the above, but that the only value
To be attached to the Union, is just so far
as hs power is exerted toward preserving
the sovereignty and independance of each
Slate; and that so long as it honestly ex
erts its power for this purpose, it is sacred—
on the contrary, when itjfairs in this ; when
by datint; infractions of tho Constitution
(the instrument which limits its authority)
or wbeu bv gross & palpable usurpation
of power, it elevates itself fur above tho
States _which formed it ; that then “it is
worth tho support of those only who would
have made it ut fust, ns they would now, a
consolidated and arbitrary government?”
This is the meaning, we have no hesi
tancy in saying, which common sense would
receive from the sentiment.
In this vie.v, it would difficult to concievc
how the Standard of Union can work it up
to suit i's purposes. If we understand
that print'd: igln, it has joined it self to those,
who under tho name ot Union men, t ;o for

would do it again,—but nets spe ik louder

and fearless man and does not conceal his
sentiments from his -political opponents—
much less his political friends.

N. Y. tlyit Mr. Camp, who was recently
killed in the streets of that town in broad

Gov. Lumpkin, Sc a uttllifier.” There
had been a personal and political difference
between diem, and Camp had taken every
occasion to snm r at Milfoil, ir hopes of

Milton prepared himself with n double bar
