and on motion of Gen. .Jleall, Mr. Long-

The relations between the Federal St
state Governments have assumed s peculiar
and intense interest by reatou of the event*
which terminated the deliberations of the
lust Congress. The long end angry con-
teats which agitated the whole South, and
had produced just complaints against the
General Government, were brought to •
close with its last session ; but they were
succeeded and doubtless for the special
purpose of subservina at some fuiure period
the very principles they sere compelled to
abandon ; by theenariment of a law equal
ly objectionable and certainly more dang
erous to the liberties of the people than
