On Wednesday previous to our annual
election for B ink Officers, itaving had tip
iutimution of any complaint against myself,
and contemplating no change in llio direc
tion, I left homo in the stage for Augusta,
upon business conneced with the Bank;
previous to my departure however, I left
with Mr. Gary a power of atlornoy to re
present my shares, and at tho election on
Monday following to vote for Jfr. Iverson,
and tho other bid directors. Mr. Iverson
was then front home, and had been lor
some weeks, but llint.eveniug as I was go

Mv leaving borne ut (hut time, and the di-

have given to Mr. Iverson great concern
nnd anxiety, for upon returning home, he
immediately s'arted Mr. William Brooks,
(one of his new associates, and of whom I
shall tiave occasion to speak more particu

pursuit of me, to act us a spy upon my
movements. At a late hour in the n'glit,
Mr. Btooks overtook it-» -“P

the other passengers and myself, saying
that lie hud been detained at Columbus by
business until the siago had left, and was
compelled to tho step he had taken, that lie
might be in Augusta by tlie time the mad
would at rive. He pioceeded on to Macon,
where I was (o remain ior one day, uud

from thence lie went to Miiledgevilie,
where he'pu( the talents of another Gen

office. Mr. Brooks then disappeared, nnd
was next seen back at Columbus. He did
