would certaiiily have been devised. Having become
thus uauresseil, he gave himself up to tire invest!-'
gntion of tho. subject. Aided ooly by his knowledge
of the scicucc of tho human body, and some yean
constant and laborious observation in practice, he be?
lioves himself to have arrived at a correct kaowfodg*
of the state of the huuiau system, which operates as
tho cause of dropsy in all its usual form*-' His view*
in this respect, are indeed quite different from the
scholastic theory of dropsy, though strictly patholo

their correctness, from the superior success which at

principles. For the lust seven years, lie has confined

proper, fdr his individual benefit and the benefit of
those who may at any timo labour under this disease.
