Proposals
For publWhing on Agricultural Paper s'. Tuscaloosa,
1 Alabama, to be entitled
THE ALABAMA PLANTER.
A GRICULTURE is admitted to be.tfae first and •
most important employment ofman. It supplied,
not only tho*necessaries of life but the raw mntennl
used by manufacturer*, in producing those- fabrics,
which give line to an extension of commerce. Hit is in
prosperous condition, population increases, and all em
ployment becomes more profitable. _
The prosperity of every nation is therefore, inti
mately connected with improvements in agriculture,
and no mcana of obtaining information of those which
are made, should be omitted by any prudent planter.
In fact every improvement in agriculture is a subject (
of deep interest to the whole community, and a knowl
edge ofit should be circulated os widely n« possible.
llow can tide important object be attained at present
in Alnbumnt Out of the sixteen or seventeen papers
published in the State, not one is devoted to-Agiicnt-
lure, and those agriculturists who wish to improve
‘tlicir minds on tiiosuhjcct most interesting ond impor
tant to diem, are compelled to subscribe for the Ameri
can Farmer or some other work publisher! in n region
of country, the Boil, climate, and productions of which
are widclv different from theirown.
To supply tills deficiency I propose in accordance
with tlie wishes of many intelligent individuals with
whom I have conversed, lo publish a-wcckly paper do
voted exclusively to agriculture and horticultural sub
jects, as soon as soon us a Bfficicnt number of subscri
bers to dofrny the expense can lie procured.
Tlio great object of tho publication is, to. afford tlio
planters nnd agricultural societies o! the State a com
mon medium, through which to communicate to each
other any improvements in tlio implements of husban
dry—in modes of tillage—in fencing, clearing, plough
ing manuriug, Ac.—-in raising Btock—in the .various
employments, in - which they arc doily engaged, and
upon which much of tlicir success depends. Such d
publication would stimulate industry,’promote econo
my, elicit inquiry, excite emulation, and be productive
of tho happiest result. ...
It is expected that intelligent men in various portions
of the State, w ill furnish original articles sufficient t*
fill each number of tho paper,’out should this not be the
ease, I shall make cclcctions from tho Lost publications
of n similar kind, such ns the Southern Agriculturist,
published in Charleston,'the American tanner pub
lished in Raltimorc. Ac. t
TERMS.—'Tho American rinntcr will be printed
once a week, in n pamplct of eight largo octavo pa*
gos, in doiililo columns, with ™ali type, nnd forwarded
to subscribers at' $3 per annum,’payable in all coses,
on the receipt of tho first number.
' Editors of this nnd tlio adjoining StutcB, whn ex
change with us mo requested to give this prospec
tus a few insertions, nnd all who feel cn interest in
tlio success of Agriculture are requested to use tlicir.
influence in procuring subscribers.
