base ho found that tho remaining men, and all tho
women were armed for its deli-nee, and that it

Tho ufctunl commaiidor of tho place, desirous of
retaliating upon the FachaTor his limboTous con

MARYNA MNISZECH.
The adventures of tiiis extraordinary Polish la
dy, belong to the roindnee of biography. Her
fathor was an ambitious man, whoso ruling pas
sion was flattered by a fortuno toller predicting
that his daughter, then u child, should wear a
crown. From that moment the ideri .took posses

It is scurcdy th be wondered that the girl also be-

that they thould have ultimately necoinphsl^d

Their diseased aspirations found a congenial sub-,
ject in the person of on impostor, who pretonded to
bo Dmitry, the murdered son of Ivan tho Fourth;
with wh 'in the futlier of Many’na contracted hla
daughter in marriage, on condition of iris obtaining
possession of tlie usurped throne of Muscovy. The
artificial sympathy which these two deluded crea
tures entertained, Ibr each othor, ripoued into a
strong natural alibction; ond tlto ovorlhrow of tho
usurper and the accession oftho protended rightful
heir to tlie throneof Ivan, realized their dreams of
greatness. Their felicity was, however, short
lived. So soon as tlio usurper’s fate was scaled,
doubts woro raised as to tbo legitimacy of the
claims of tho now Cznr; bis pretensions would
not bear scrutiny; plots were formed against him,
and the unhappy mnn was murdered in tho Krem

an extraordinary instance of the predominance of
tlie ruling passion. On iter way lo her nativo
country she was captured by tho troops of u men
who, they stated, was her supposed murdered hus
band, recovered from iris wounds. Being lod into
his presence, she was struck with ainozoroeiit onu
