Whnt would fny mother say 1—1 dread to think I

How I plmll blush,if I hut moot horeyel—

Pray, pray, romovo your lined from round my wnlst,

Pray don’t approach ynttr lips so close to mine
As you do now—you know them's no one listening,
Why should you whispor then—I can’t divino,
And boo, your cyoe are now with mischief glistening,

A,few months ngo, in company with a profes

The institution 1 Imvc mentioned, stood upon tin
eminence, surrounded by groves, wnvtiig like n
mass of rainbows in the uir, The scene from its
site, was beautiful in tlto' extreme. Ditto moun
tains melted nfar into tho sky; fair 'v .'os nnd
bright rivers smiled nnd rolled between : tho city
was near at hand, with its towers and battlements,
' pnd banners floating in the sunqy air;' all was
delightful,—all serene. My spirit received into
its inmost dophts the harmonizing influences of
the view; nnd I could not help contrasting the
f tcnccful calmness that lay lilto nclturm upon - tlto
nntlscape around, with‘tho murine.a of frenzy
which ronclied my oar, ns I stood, with my friend
at tho groat door of tho asylum, waiting (hr a mo

Voices were heard, in various tono and measure,
singing, talking, and howling, in mingled confu
sion. It was its if . Limbo liotl beoa dispeopled,
and we were listening lo the wailings of its miser
able inhabitants.
As wo entered, I was struck with tlto regularity
nnd order which ovory wliero prevailed in tlto ap

sweet a retreat alone, might wrap ilsolf in the
