It it most gratifying once more to perceive
our State assuming her old and lofty position,
ia the councils of tlia country. Alter the
long tclipse winch has hung over our delega
tion, the intellectual scintillations of our new
Representatives in Congress, is ns striking
and as cheering as the glimpse of sunshine,
in a cloudy day. We copy from varitus pa
pers, of both political parties, the public tri-
butt to the talents nud efficiency of our new
Representatives, It is saying no more, we
presume, than will be admitted by tor oppo
nents in Georgia, that, with the single excep
tion of (awn. Glascock, we have in vain
looked for years past, for any such public
tsstimouials to the intellectual superioriiv of

a gallant defence of the citizens of Georgia

who preceded him. He demonstrated that
hostilities of the Indians had been caused,
not by the acts of the citizens of those Btutes,
but by the conduct of agents and ofXcers of
the General Government. He referred to
the Indian reservations made iu the treaties
—the object of which he declared was to en
able individuals connected with the Govern
ment, and oihcrs, to make their fortunes by
cheating the Indians out of these reservations,
lie gave illustrations and proofs, and among
them mentioned one case, in which an In

four ol the citizens fired upon by Bishop and
his company, were wounded, one, it was

a citizen of Murray county, died a few days
since of the wound he received on that occa

more, we sincerely hope it is not so, but our
