THE SOUTHERN BAPTIST COLLEGE.
This Institution was filially located at
Washington by the-tinanimaun voice of the
members of the late Conventiuo held at
Ruckersville. The friends had raised lor
ite establishment the sum of one hundred
and three thousand dollars, aod as the Legis<
lature had granted a charter at the last see*
•ion, it was deemed prudent not to chaoge
the location from that place to Talbotton.
though Talbot too had raised but about
58,000. .The memorial which was pre-
pared and sent up to the Convention, by the
friends to the College at Talbotton, was laid
before them, and resolutions passed by that
body to relation to ir r which resolutions have
beeo published in the Christian Index, and
need not be adverted to here.
Suffice it to say, that but little party feel
ing or aoy visible evidence of dissatisfaction
were manifested. It was a general Impree*
x eion, that the Western part of the State hod
high claims to an institution of the kind, and
many intelligent and influential brethren at
the Convention from, various parts of the
Htate, were free to express it aq their decided
opinion that the friends in Western Georgia;
end at Talbotton particularly, should go or
•rid establish an institution of a high oud el
evated character* It was suggested that the
sums subscribed for the College at Talbotton.
he turned over to the ejection of such on in
•mutton. In conformity with the sugges
lion of those friends, the subject has been
laid before muny of the subscribers to the
College, who have heartily concurred in the
suggestion, nnd propose that a high school he

of Georgia, point it out, and seem to ensure
