A meeting is to be held inis evening, as
will be seen by the annexed resolutions for
the purpose of organizing in this City a li

spectfully urge upon the friends of Literature
and moral improvement, to give their atten

well selected public Library is greatly need
ed in Columbus; and perhaps the present
opportunity of uniting in the proposed S>icie-

on the mental cultivation, and moral char

be so, if improved with that hearty co-ojiera-

which the project deserves.
THE RAINS.
Last Sunday's rains have played wild
work with the Mills and Bridges. We under
stand nearly all the Saw-Mills in this vicin
ity have been seriously injured ; some, we
learn, wholly swept away. The Bridge in
Girard, and another on Bull Creek, St. Ma
ry’s Road, and ail the Bridges except Hobdy's
on the Mulberry, are gone. A verv great
quantity of water foil during the day and
night, perhaps as much as we have ever
known in tlee same time. Some fears were
entertained on Monday morning for the
Georgia abutment of our Bridge, but it was
not injured.
ticular subject of dissatisfaction.
One other remark it is cur privilege, if not

nothing but a division of our energies and a

The Fugitive Creeks.—On Tuesday
last, a party of Indians, with Coharjoh, one
ofthe hostile Creeks lately captured' by the
friendly Indians, were deputed by the Gov
ernor to hold a talk with the fugitives lately
discovered on the Choctawhatchie. Cof.
Brown, who has been in punuit for a short
lime, has been ordered to suspend operation*
until the result of this conference shall be
made known. It ie believed frntn the state
ments of Coharjoh. that the remaining creeks

Gov. Call, we understand, will leave in a
few days to meet the Indians, provided they
show any disposition to conform to ibe wish

There appears to be a considerable num
