Its'exposition of the Celeotial Marriage, as it calls
’the marriage institution of the Mormon Church.—
We male- the foliowing extract:
When a man who has-a wife teachca her the
jaw of God, as revealed to the ancient patriarcha,
and aa manifested by new rpvelation, and she re
fuses to give her consent for him to marry anoth
er, according to that law, then it he cornea neces
sary for her to state beforo tho President the rea
sons why she withholds her consent. If her rea-
sons are sufficient and justifiable, and the husband
is found in the fault, or in transgression, then lie
is not permitted to take any step in regard to ob
taining another. But if the wife can show no good
reason why she refuses lo comply , with the law
which was given unto Sarah of old, then it is law-
ful for hor husband, if permitted by revelation
through the prophet, lobe married to others with-
out h J r consent, and he will be justified, and she
will bo condemned, because she did not give them
unto him, as Sarah gave I [agar to Abraham, and
andaa (Incho I and Leah gave Ililliali and Zupah
to their husband, Jacob.
It is the duty of a man who lakes another wife
to look after her welfare and happiness, and to
provido for hor the comforts of life the same us for
the first; for tho Scripture, in speaking of such a
man, save : "If he take him another wife, her
food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall
ho not diminish.” (Exodus 20, 10.

Cold Comfort m
The Richinood Whig, looking upon the appoint
ment of ono Caleb Cushing to the office ol Secretary
of State rui a probability amounting almost to a fixed
feet, thus throws out a few comforting suggestions to
the members of the old nnd faithful democracy. Il
is. wo believe, the sin of nil parlies that renegades and
new coiners are generally rewarded with the most
honorable and profitable offices. Whether it is be
lieved that denerter* from the enemy are more likely
to prove valiant soldicri, lhau long tried patriots, in the
hour of trial ; or whether it is ueces-ary to glue the
affoctionn of a turncoat to the new.causo eapoused, by
the adhesive power o! public plunder, we are not pre
pared loany. It is a fact however, and one which in
some measure disgrace'.he movements of every party
and almoat every political association, that u man,
who hus been literally kicked out of one political ccu-
necliou for want of prii^'ple, prudence, or something
else, is generally received into another and placed ov
er the heads ofloug-tried, faithful, aud able statesmen.
We have witnessed in ourduy many instances of tlie
kind, and have occi sionally felt some of U:c sensations
which our e .temporary supposes will arise in the bo
soms of tho old democrats when they fiud Caleb no

pectedly elevated to the first c-ffice in the cabiuet.—

and every day reuders it more so, that such men care
for nothing but the attainments of their personal
wishes, nnd regard no sacrifice of tlie public interest
too great, provided their private purposes are p.omo-
led. The people, after a time, grow tired of such
conduct on the (art of their public servants and de
mand that something better shall be done. Of lute,
this deinaud has been loud aud univcral, aud tho
wrong-doers have been compelled to hunt up such ex
cuses as they may think possibly gull the unofficial sov

Wo learn from tiio Montgomery, Ala., Journal
that the Rtilrotd from Atalanta to Lagrange was

We learn that tho connecting route from Opo-
