The Premonition*
We found the following singular story in
a Methodist psprr. which did not seem to
doubt its truth, although we are much in
clined to do so.
In tho year 1820, when the present State
of Alabama was a comparative wilderness,
a gentleman by the nnmo of Saunders carno
front a neighboring State into one of its
eastern counties, in qtfist of a place of set-
ilcment. Ho was well dressed und well
mounted and travelled alone.
At the close o| a fatiguing day’s ride, he
stepped at a house or rntsitsinment. which
was the nucleus ol a struggling backwoods
village, containing some Hfteen or twenty
inhabitant/. Tho host wus a grim, sour-
visagtd man, with small, sinister looking
cycf, that twinkled Iika burning points,
between the heavy fringe of tho pointed
eyebrows, i be tavern seemed to have been
Iclt iu nn unfinished state by the workmen,
nnd looked ruinous and old for the want of
puinl and repairs,
On entering the bar-room, which was a
dingy, half-lighted apartment, Mr. H. found
a few men, very ordinary in both dress and
"PI" atanee, relating to each other tho gossip
amt news of tho neighborhood. He seated
himself in their midst, und awaited iu si
lence tho announcement of supper.
After eating a hearty meal, feeling both
laitgui..! and drowsy, Inf'requested to be con
ducted to his room. The landlord, taking

Eight *Uuouukm at a Uluru.—On the
2d of August Mr*. Timothy li rail ley, ol
Johnson, Trumbull County, O., gave birth
per story. Entering a narrow, dark passage,
Mr. S. was shown into % small uncomforta

u small tnhlc. The landlord put his lamp
oil tho table, hodohis guest good night, and
immediately rntirod.
A* the door of the room wns without lock or

Uvorcoiue with fatigue and drowsiness,
he soon fell asleep, but almost immediately

impelled to make an escape. Opening it,
he saw a hulo in the middle of the floor, over
which ho saw tho timbers , ( f bedstead were

found it was all n dream. Ho was still iu

same position in which ho hud placed them
against the door.
After*revolving tho dream in his mind for
moments, his nerves became quiet ami
he again fell asleep; dreaming iho identical

Ilo got up out of bed, removed the chair
