Wednesday, December 15,1875.
Hart County.
We have at great trouble and expense
established a Hart county column in
“The Gazette,” securing as our corres
pondent a gentleman eminently fitted
for the position, and whose diligence in
furbishing ns with all news of interest
to them must commend him warmly to
our many subscribers in that county.
We desire to secure additional sub
scribers and friends in Hart, and we
hop* every reader will interest himself
or herself in accomplishing this. A list
of fifty additional subsetibers in that
county would be a most acceptable
Chiistmas present. This could be easi
ly accomplished. If one fourth of our
leaders there would each secure one
subscriber, it would be done. Will you
try it reader ?
Increase our s bscription list among
you, and we will furnish you as good a
paper as—-we can.
Dr Pierce— “ Success is never achiev
ed without merit. A man may make a
poor article and sell it once, and there
being 40,000,000 people in the United
States, the sale to each one would be en
ough to make a decent fortune. But an
article that holds the field year after
year, and the sales of which increases
regularly and rapidly, must have abso
lute meiit.
Dr. It. Y. Pierce, of Buffalo, N. Y., oc
cupies our entire eigtith page 10 day
with his various articles. We admit it,
because we know the doctor, aud know
of his office, and we know that he has as
sociated with him several of the most
eminent practitioners in the country.
We know that paities consult him, by
mail aud in person, from all the States
in the Union every day, and that they
are fairly and honestly dealt with.
This great result has been accom
plished by two agencies—good, reliable
articles—articles which, once introduced,
work easily their own way —and splen
did business management. They have
succeeded because they ought to have
succeeded.”—Toledo Blade.
If you would patronize Medicines, sci
entifically prepared by a skilled Physi
cian and Chemist, use Dr. Pierces Fumi
ly Medicines. Golden Medical Discove
ry is nutritious, tonic, alterative, and
blood cleansing, and an unequaJed
Cough Remedy; Pleasant Purgative
Pedets, scarcely larger than mustard
seeds, constitute an agreeable phy
sic; Favorite Prescription, a remedy for
debilitated females; a xtract of Smart-
Weed, magical cure for Pain, Bowel Com
plaints, and an unequaled Liniment for
both human and horseflesh; while his
Dr. Sage’s Catarrh Remedy is known the
world over as the greatest specific for
V. atarrh and “Cold in the Head” ever
given to the public. They are sold by
druggists.
20 Years a Sufferer.—Cured by the Gol
den Medical Discovery.
Dr. K. Y. Pierce:
Dear Sir.—Twenty year ago I was
shipwrecked on the Atlantic Ocean, and
the cold t ancl exposure caused a large
abscess to form on each leg, which kept
continually discharging. I was attended
by doctors in Liverpool, Havre, New
Orleans, New York, and at the hospital
on Staten Island (where the doctors
wanted to take one leg off). Finally, af
ter spending hundreds of dollars I was
persuaded to try your “Golden Medical
Discovery," an 1 now, in less than three
months after taking the first bottle, I
tun thankful to say that I am com
pletely cured, and for the first time
in ten years can put my left heel to
the ground. lam at home nearly every
evening and shall be glad to satisfy any
person of the truth of this information.
I am, sir, yours respectfully,
WILLIAM RYDER.

The History of a Great Enterprise.—
In eighteen hundred and fifty four, ori
ginal incorporators of the Wilson Sew
ing Machine Company embarked in the
manufacture of Sewing Machines, and
from that time to the present, their time,
talent, and capital have been employed
in making First Class Sewing Machines
withyaiied success attending their ef
forts. It being their constant aim to
produce a Shuttle or Lock-Stitch Ma
chine that should be simple to handle,
durable as steel and iron could make it,
with unlimited capacity, unexcelled by
any other machine, regardless of name
or price, and withal to confine the price
within the reach of all classes of people j
and success has crowned their efforts in
the production of ti e celebrated Wilson
Shuttle Sewing Machines, which com
bine all the Elegance, Simplicity Durabil
ity and Strength possible for any sewing
Machine to attain, and they are the First
and Only First-Class moderate priced
machines put in the market.
Machines will be delivered at any
Railroad Station in this county, free of
transportation charges, if ordered through
the Company's Branch House at 189 Ca
nal street New Orleans.
They send an elegant catalogue and
chromo circular, free on application.
This Company want a few more good
agents.
The Centenial of 1878.— This highly
favored country is about to celebrate its
hundredth birthday. Under its favored
privileges, its citizens have been happy j
•worshiping God according to the dic
tates of their own consciences ; pursu
ing their avocations unmo
tested; growing rich and prosperous.
Some have attained the most exalted po
sitions from the smallest beginnings.
This is particularly applicable to Dr.
Tutt’s Liver Pills. Ten years ago they
had but a limited local reputation, but
in this time, aided by scientific research
and conscientious business direction,
they have attained celebrity that there is
not a country on the globe that they are
not known and used. Wherever disease
prevails, especially such as result from
torpid liver, dyspepsia, costiveness, sick
headache, fever and ague abound tbej are
eagerly sought for.
HART COUNTY DEPARTMENT.
BY OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.
HARTWJSIM^^
CHRISTMAS
Preparations are going on steadily
which go to show that Christmas is go
ing to be a day of general festivity and
enjoyment in this place. The Christ
mas tree is a certainty, and is set down
for Christmas eve. It is gotten up for
the Hartwell Sunday school, but all
other Sunday schools and children in
the county, and everybody else are in
vited to attend. The greatest care will
be taken that all who participate shall
have an interest in the distribution and
especially the children of the poor will
not be fargotten who attend.
We also think it is certain that King
Rex of Atlanta will visit us in person, or
send some of his emmissarieß on Christ
mas day
We do not hear of anything else to be
given publicly, but there are to be a
round of private parties, and turkeys,
cakes and other good things will be de
stroyed generally.
We heard a joke recently on a well
known minister of this county which
will interest some of your readers—told
us by the young gentleman from Ogle
tborpe whose horses ran away last week
and tore up things generally. He was
staying all night with this preacher, and
he expressed a desire to leave, when his
host went out to order his horses—but
after being gone about an hour came
back apparently in n uch trouble, and
told him that some rascal bad stolen
his horse collars during the night. Our
friend told him that he ne*>d look no far
ther as he had no collars on his horses,
they working without them, or with
Dutch collars, which made things all
right and he went on his way rejoicing.
HON. J. W. JONESJ
has brought an ear of corn 12 inches in
length and 2 inches in diameter, with
1,000 grains—also several clusters of
cotton with 4an \ 5 bolls on each clus
ter, which are very fine. Mr Jones is
one of the model farmers of this county,
having farmed for more than forty years
without buying a single bushel of corn
or pound of meat. He has a splendid
orchard, and in water melon time is fa
mous all over the county for his two aad
three acre patch of melons—exclusively
for himself and his friends.
HERMON LODGE NO. 189, F. A. M.
H the annual election of this lodge
held on the 7th inst., the following offi
cers were elected for the ensuing year:
C. W. Seidel, W. M.
S M. Bobo, S. W.
John Peek, J. W.
F. B. Hodges, Treasurer.
W. It. Stephenson, Secretary.
There were no appointments made of
deacons or stewards, but will be made
at next communication.
SALE DAY.
Last First Tuesday, beir.g cold and
rainy and disagreeable weather, made
it lively times for the grocery keepers,
and whiskey was in demand and flowed
like water all day. Towards evening
several parties got up their fighting pro
pensities, several of them coming to
grief by passing the night in the cala
boose, and others having to pay $5 each
next day.
HUGH CARNES,
the prisoner in our jail whom we men
tioned last week, we are happy to in
form our readers, has been bailed out.
His bor dsmen were Mr. W. H. Satter
field, our townsman, and Mr. Chapelear,
of Franklin county, formerly sheriff of
that county, and a very responsible and
respectanle citizen, who has taken him
home with him, as Hugh has promised
to work for him until the next term of
the court.
“THE BRIGHT SIDE,”
is the name of anew paper lately start
ed in Carnesville which we hear propos
es to move to our town if it can get a
generous supnort. We approve of this
move and beg to extend it our cordial
support, and all the assistance in our
power. The people of this county are
improving, and feel the want of a county
paper, and we believe with the establish
ment of a press here it will meet with
the hearty support of the people of the
county.
CORRECTION.
The report of the disturbance at the
residence of J. W. Brown, in this coun
as given a few weeks ago, was no
production of ours and inadvertently
slipped into our column. We have seen
one of the principals who desires us to
state that the report was greatly exag
erated and only partially true.
