AN ACT
To alter and amend the seventh section of
tho first Article oi the Constitution of this
Slate.
Section 1. lie it enacted hi/ the Senate and
House of Representatives of the State of Georgia , in
Genera! Assembly met, and it is lureby unnettd by
the authority of the same, that whenever this act shall
have passed in accordance with the rrquirments of
the Constitution of tins Stato, the following shall h*
adopted in lieu of the said seventh section.—Each
county of this State shall have one Representative,
arid no county shall have more than two Represen
tatives. Thirty-seven counties having the greatest
popu’ation, counting all fre white persona and
three-fifths of the people of color, shall have two
Representatives-and if li.iy new county shall be
hereafter firmed, said new county shall be entitled
to one Representative, and the apportionment
shall be made by the General Assembly at the ses
sion of which this section shall bo adopted os an al
teration of the Constitution, by an act lobe intro
duced after the adoption thereof, and anew appor
tionment shall he made at the session next after each
future enumeration of tlie inhabitants of tins State,
made tinder the Constitution and laws thereof, but
at no other lime.
