MEDICINES.
WINER’S
CANADIAN VERMIFUGE,
TMIE remedy to which wc would call the at
tention oi‘ the public, is one which has
proved successful for a Jong time ; and it is uni
versally acknowledged by all who have tried it,
to be l'ar superior to any other medicine ever
employed in diseases for which it is recommended.
It not only destroys worms and invigorates the
whole system, but it dissolves and carries off the
superabundant slime or mucus, so prevalent in
the stomach and bowels of children, more es
pecially those in bad health. The mucus forms
the bed or nest in which worms produce their
young, and by removing’ it is impossible for
worms to remain in the It is harmless in
its effects ou the system, the health of the
patient is always improved by its use, even when
no worms are discovered.
It will be seen by the following statement that
Mr. McCord had, previous to using “Winer’s Ca
nadian Vermifuge,” resorted to various prepara
tions recommended for worms, without any ad
vantge —this of itself, is sufficient to prove the
superiority of this preparation over all others lor
similar purposes.
Brooklyn, January 13th, 1846.
Messrs. John Winer & Cos. 83 Maiden Lane, N. Y.
Sirs—l am happy to have it in my power to
bear testimony of the good effects attending the
use of your Canadian Vermifuge.
My child of two years of age, had been ill for
some seven or eight months, and had finally be
come so cmanciated, that wc despaired of its re
covery. Supposing the cause of its sickness was
worms, we gave her various medieinss recom
mended in sucli cases, but they produced no be
neficial effects. We had given her up as past re
covery, when we were recommended by a friend,
who had heard of your medicine, to give it a tri
al—we did so without any expectation of its be
ing serviceable, bnt to our great joy and surprise,
after she bad taken six doses, and six only, she
began to revive, and is nowin better health than
she has been for ten months.
I can now recommend your “ Canadian Ver
mifuge” with the greatest confidonce, and as a
friend to the young portion of the human family,
who sull'er from worms. lam glad to bo able to
give you such decided confidence in the success
of your medicine, and am willing you should re
fer to me any persons who have doubt on this
point. Yours truly,
GILES MACORD, 18 Tillery st.

Sirs : A friend of mine hearing me complain
of a severe cough and hoarseness, together with
distress trom which I had suffered for some time
buejj., caused by a severe cold suddenly taken,
purchased a bottle of your Syrup of Hoarhound

first commenced taking it I could not speak a
bove my breath, nor Could. I sleep without sitting
up in my bed most of the night , my cough some
nights would be incessant, so as to deprive me
of sleep? but after taking-three doses the hoarse
ness was much relieved, together with the pain
caused by coughing ; I have continued the use
until I have taken about one half the bottle. 1
am perfectly free from any cough now, and ain
convinced that if not obtained relief the infla

Consumption, It is certainly the best medicine I
havener taken for a cough, the effects arc so
soon felt, that I would do all in toy power to make
it known among my friends.

dj“ TRIUMPHANT SUCCESS. Jffi)
Milleiistown, Perry county, Pa.
Dr. Swayne —Dear Sir.—ln March last I
caught a very heavy cold which settled on my
lungs, attended with a hard, dry cough, pains in
the side and breast, tightness and oppression in
the chest. I neglected taking any medicine, ex
cept the usual simple remedies, which persons
in indigent circumstances like myself generally
resort to, when I became quite alarmed and ap
plied to my family physician. He treated me
several monthr, hut I received .no benefit; in
fact I gradually grew worse. I had profuse
night sweats, skin dry and parched no appetite,
suffered much with thirst, occasionally spitting
blood, until my physician, as well as my friends,
pronounced me going into a deep decline.—
Some of my friends recommended one medioine-,
some another, and would show me long certifi
cates of purported cures, many of which I thought
suited to my case exactly, but from their effect
upon me I despaired ever recovering my health,
but gave myself up to die of that scourge of the
land ,
PULMONARY CONSUMPTION.
Fortunately at this time, a friend of mine pas
sing tlirOogh our town, who resides in Harris
burg, called to see me, and rcconimended your
Compound Syrup of Wild Cherry, and gave me
the name of Martin Lutz, your agent in Harris
burg. 1 reluctantly sent and got a bottle, which
relieved me ss much that 1 sent and got five
more, and I am happy to say I am now a sound
and hearty man. I attribute the cure entirely to
the use oi'your celebrated preparation, the Com
pound Syrup of Wild Cherry, and would earnest
ly recommend any person who is suffering with
and disease of the Lungs, to resort at once to your
medicine. I remain yours, very

Deafness cured! u-scarpa’s compound
ACOUSTIC OIL, for the cure of Deafness,
Pains, and the discharge of matter from tiie Ears.
Also all those disagreeable noises, like the buz
zing of insects falling of water, whizzing of steam,
&c. &c., which are symptoms of approaching
Deofness, and also generally attendant with the
disease. Many persons who have been deaf for
ten, fifteen, and twenty years, and were obliged
to use ear-trumpets, have, ofter using one or two
bottles, thrown aside their trumpets, being made
perfectly well. Physicians and surgeons highly
recommanding its use.
Read the following from the Philadelphia.—
Public Ledger.
“Have you ever tried it ? —lf not, do not delay
another day, but send immediately; if you have
been one of the wise and prudent, and already
brought a bottle, the question is settled; you
‘have recorded your heel ring. Scarpa's Oil for
Deafness never fails. It is the only medicine that
will cure. Thousands of deaf persons will give
their testimony in its fauor. The beauty of the
tiling is that it cures you without producing any
pain.”
The Editor of the Philadelphia Forum thus
speaks of the medicine.
“Valuable Article. —Scarpa’s Acoustic Oil is
said by those who have had occasion to use it, to
be an excellent medicine in cases of deafness
arising from colds or otiicr causes. We know
a young lady who not long since wis almost im
mediately relieved by it, and the certificate ol
Mr. Daniel Graefi’isan unanswerable testimony
of its efficacy.”
And .again from the Editor of the Morning
Chronicle:
“Important for the Deaf. —We commend to
the particular attention of those desirous of hav
ing their hearing restored, Scarpa , s Oil for
Deafness. We he.lr it Highly spoken of by
those who have used it, and of course known its
value.”
Here is something worth attending to, coming,
as it docs, from a man so extensively known as is
Mr. Graeff, both in the city and country:
“I hereby certify, that from the effects of a
severe cold last winter, I became partially deaf,
attended with very disagreeable noises, like
ringing ofbells, &c., which gradually increased,
until I completely lost the hearing of.one ear—
when I was induced to use Scarpa’s Acous
tic Oil, and am now happy to say, that with
the use of one bottle of the above medicine, I
can hear as well as ever, and all disagreeable
noises have entirely disappeared. Any further
information respectiag my case, will be gladly
given, by calling on me at 4.3 j North Fifth street,

cures on subjects thought past recovery. A sin
gle bottle will be sufficient to satisfy any person
that it is a valuable medicine, and not surpassed
by any other now in use ; and many times, if
taken in common colds, it might save heavy hills
for medical attendance, and severe turns of sick
ness, if not death.

twenty years, with a cough so severe, that I had
been unable to attend to business, at times.—

Cough Drops, prepared by J. J. Davis, I have
found that in using but threS bottles, I am nearly
cured of the cough. I have used the same in my
family, and am well satisfied that they are a cure
for Coughs and Colds. The greatest relief I ever
had by the use of medicine, for a cough or cold,
was by three doses of the above drops, and I do
recommend them to all who are afflicted with
such as colds aud coughs.

ALLHEALING OINTMENT.
THE prceetßng fijrnrc is given to represent
the Insensible Perspiration. It is the great
evacuation for thfe impurities of the body. It
will be noticed that a thick cloudy mist issues
from all points of the surface, which indicates
that this perspiration flows uninterruptedly when
we are in health, but ceases when we arc sick.
Life cannot be sustained without it. It is thrown
off from the blood and other juices ol the body',
and disposes by this means, of nearly all the im
purities within ns. The language of Scripture is,
Pin the blood is the life.” If it ever becomes im
pure, it may be traced directly to the stoppage
of the insensible perspiration. Thus we see', all
that is necessary when the blood is stagnant, or
infected, is to open the pores, and it relieves
itself from all impurity instantly. Its own heat
and vitality are sufficient, without one particle
ofmedicine, except to open the pCrc-s upon the
surface. Thus we see the folly oftaking so many
internal remedies. All practitioners', however,
direct their efforts to the Insensible
Perspiration. The Thompsonian, for instance,.
steams, the Ilydropathist shrouds us in wet blan
kets, the Homopathist deals out infi'nitissimals,
the Allopathist bleeds and doses us with mercury
and the blustering Quack gorges us with pills,
pills', pills'.
To give some idea, of the amount of the In
sensible Perspiration, we will state that the lear
ned Ur. Leweuhock, ascertained that five-eights
ofall we receive in the stomach, passed off by
this means. In other words, if we cat and drink
eight pounds per day, we evacuate five pounds
of it by the Insensible Perspiration.
This is none other than the used up particles
of the blood, and other juices giving place
to the new and fresh ones. To check this, there
fore, is to retain in the system five-eights of all
the virulent matter that nature demands should
leave the body.
By a sudden transition from heat to cold, the
pores, are stopped, the perspiration ceasc3, and
disease begins at once to develope itself.—
Hence, a stoppage of this flow of the juices, or
iginates so many complaints. Nine tenths of the
world die from disease induced by a stoppage of
the Insensible Perspiration.
Let me ask, now, every candid mind, wlidt
course seems the most reasonable to pursue,
to Ullstop the poroa, after they arc closed. —
Would you give physic to unstop the pores? Or
would you apply something that would do this
upon the surface, where the clogging aclually is?
And yet I know of no physician who makes any
external application to effect it. Under these
circumstances, I present to physicians, and to
all others, McAllisters, All Healing Ointment
or the World's Salve, it has power to restore
perspiration oh the feet, oh the head', arohad
old sores, upon the chest, in short- upon any part
of the body, whether diseased slightly or severe
ly. It has power to cause all external sores,
scrofulous humors, skin diseases, poisonous
wounds, to discharge their putrid matter, and
then heals them. It is a remedy that sweeps off
the whole catalogue of cutaneous disorders, and
restores the entire cuticle to its healthy functions.
It is a remedy that forbids the necessity of so
many and deleterious drugs taken into the stom
ach. I have used it for the last fourteen years
for all diseases of the chest, consumption, liver,
involving the utmost danger and responsibility,
and I declare before Heaven and man, that not
in one single case has it failed to benefit, when
the patient was within the reach of mortal means.
I have had physicians, learned in the profes
sion, I have had ministers of the Gospel, judges
on the bench, Aldermen and Lawyers, gentle
men of the highest erudition and multitudes of
the poor, use it in every variety of way, and there
has been but one voice—one united and univer-’
sal voice—saying “McAlister. your’Oointmcnt is
good.

GROSS SURFACE.
Its first action is to expel all humor. It will
not cease drawing till the face is free from any
matter that may be lodged under the skin, and
frequently breaking out to the surface. It then
heals. When there is nothing but grossness, of
dull repulsive surface, it begins to soften and
soften until the skin becomes as smooth and del
icate as a child’s.

Now let me say to parents that this Salve will
always tell if a child has worms. It will drive
every vistage of them away. (Read the direc
tions around the box.)
Olfi SO|t*S. That some sores are an outlet
to impurities of the system is, because they can
not pass off through the natural channels of the
Insensible Perspiration. If such sores are healed
up the impurities must have sonic other outlet,
or it will endanger life. This salve will always
provide for such emergencies.

INDIAN VEGETABLE PANACEA.
READ THE FOLLOWING CERTIFI
CATE.
I\TESSRS. ftOWAND & WALTON—Gentleneiß
-if A As you succeeded in effecting acure upon
me witdo'our “DR. CULLEN’S INDIAN VEG
ETABLE* PANACEA*” after the most eminent
physicians in Cuba', New York, Baltimore, and
Philadelphia, and all the niostpopularadvcrtised
medicines of the day had failed, you are fully en
titled to all the benefit which the following state
ment of facts can confer.
In the year 1819, while at sea on the brig
Commodore Perry, of this port my leg was injur
ed by the anchor. The wound became scrofulous
—was highly inflamed and painful, particularly in
spring and summer. From the time of the acci
dent, I was under the treatment ofthc most cele
brated physicians in the Island of Cuba, and thin
city, until 18:24. The summer of that year I
spent in the country to make a fair trial ofS wain's
Panacea ; but even that popular medicine failed
to produce any decided improvement. In 1830 I
applied to the most eminent surgeon in New
York city, and I was lor a considerable time un
der his care without any particular benefit.
From that time until 1814, there was no change
for the better; and during that year, white in
Baltimore my leg was slightly injured by a rail-!
road ear, which caused the ulcers to rage with
tenfold violence. 1 applied to a physician, who’,
after exhausting his skill in vain, said “ the un
sound timber must be removed, or he could not
keep the craft much longer afloat!” Not liking
to part with an old shipmate, however trouble
some, I refused to have it takeu off; my leg',
however, became so much worse that the ulcers
extended from my foot almost to the knee, laying
bare the bone, so exceedingly sore that I could
not bear oven wilted plantain leaves, or the moat
simple salve to touch it.
Thus malters stood in October last, when for
your gratification I commenced witli Dr. Cullen’s
Indian Vegetable Panacea, with little faith, I
confess, for I had used incredible quantities of
Sarsaparilla, and in fact, every other medicine
which I saw advertised, or lrcard recommended.
Physicians had failed and hope had fled ! Imag
ine, then, my joy, when (alter suffering TWEN
TY-SIX YEARS,) I found before I finished the
first bottle, that the Panacea had w rought a de
cided change for the better.
I am now a well man, and have been cured
your Panacea alone, without the use of any other
medicine or preparation whatever !
Any person desirous of obtaining further parti

r F , 0 relieve and to cure suffering humanity it
a most important and interesting undertaking!
In a matter of such vast moment, where health j
happiness, and even life itself, are involved, de
ception would be Unpardonable.
It gives us great pleasure to speak thus public
ly ofthc astounding efficacy of the above prepar
ation, of which we have recently been an eye
witness, in the ease of Mr. Isaac Brooks, jr., Jef
ferson street, four doors west of Schuylkill Sixth
street, below Locust. This gentleman, for a
long time was severely afilicted with that most
loathsome and unyielding disease, the Scrofulaj
so much so that the superior half of his person
was awfully disfigured, the ravages of the com
plaint having carried away his nose, palate, and
lip, and filled his throat with ulcers.
This most distressed individual, wearc enabled
to say, has been entirely cured of his disease by
the omnipotency of “Dr. Cullen’s Indian Vegeta
ble Panacea.” This is, without doubt, one of
the most wonderful cures of Scrofula ever per
formed on a human being.
We have been induced to notice the matter
before us from motives of sympathy to theafflitl?
ed—for what is wealth, nay, what is life, with
out health ? If there is a “balm in Gilead,” how
important that it should be known !
It is our deliberate judgement that the Panacea
in question, is destined to rise to very great im
portance in the medical world. Wc regard it a?
a pleasurable duty to give publicity to this moas
invaluable remedy. And who that is suffering
from the health and life-destroying disease refer
red to; would not wish to make trial of a medi
cine which promises so much, and that too, upon
such reasonable terms.
Many other cases in point, in our immediate
neighborhood, might be referred to, in attestation
of the w onderful power of this Panacea, in the
edre of Scrofula, mercurial diseases, white swell
ings, tetter, fee., and all impurities of the blood i
biit it is not necessary. These facts serve to
convince us that the “ Vegetable Panacea” is a
most extraordinary remedy. And we would say, in
good faith, to the people wheresoever scattered,
who may be suffering from any of the complaints
alluded to, by all means send to Messrs. Rowand
& IFalton, 376 market street, for “Doctor Cul
len’s Indian Vegetable Panacea.”
