Acrimonious Humors the cause and the only
Cause of all Pain and Distresses in the Body,
P UN is the warning givcu by tbc nrrves
that there are acrimonious humors in the
bodv. No mail, ever had an affection of the lungs
but “it arose from Acrimonious Humors liavjmg
yi ttled there. No man ever had pain in the 1t i t
or an affection of the heart, but it was produced
by the presence npon those parts of Acrimonious
Humors. So with Rheumatism —it is the Acri
fionious Humors which have settled upon the
membrane of the muscles. So with dysentery —■
the Acrimonious Humors have settled upon the
mneus membrane of the bowels, aggravated in
most cases by the retention of Hard Fecal matter
in those important organs. There never was a
pain or distress in any part of the body (unless it
was produced by an accident) that was not occa
sioned by the presence of Acrid Humors. It is
these humors which have to be expelled, and by
•• doing the Pain or distress, is sure to be remov
ed. To do this with certainty the Brandreth
FUla must be used. They are as innocent as
bread, yet ail powerful as the remover of the
cause of sickness; piay be taken at any time of

DR, WOOD’S SARSAPARILLA,
and
WILD CHEURY BITTERS,
For the permanent romoval of nil inch
diseases ns take their rise in an Im
pure Blood, Impaired Digestion,
Morbid state of the Liver and
Stomach) s%'eokness of the
Nervom System, and a
disordered Habit of
Constitution generally.
Dr. Wood’s Sarsaparilla and Wild Cherry Bit
ters have already, by their substantial excellence,
won a degree of public favor and patronage,
which pots them beyond the need of recommen
dation. Being faithfully prepared of the most
excellent materials, they can be fully confided in
by all in need of a tonic, aperient or alterative
remedy. Sarsaparilla takes a high rank among
Physicians and all others in the list of curative
agents, and it is this fact which has rendered it so
deservedly popular over all othex medicines of
the day. In Dr. IVood’s standard preparation, it
is warrantpd to be found in great purity and
strength, and gaining much by its union with the
JFild Cherry, a tonic of the first order. This
happy combination is the only one ever made of
these article, and founded as it -is on the best
medical principles, and their virtues extracted by
a rigid* chemical .analysis, experience has shown
its unusual power and efficacy.,
This preparation wilj.be found on trial, to be a
sure and speedy remedy for the diseases enumer
ated above. They purify the blood, secure regu
lar digestion, promote a healthy action of the
Liver and Stomach, and strengthen the nerves,
at once securing health & vigor to the whole sys
tem. In all cases of despondency, arising from
Indigestion or Nervous irritation, they have been
used with remarkable.success nor are they less
useful as a remedy for Headache, Flatulency,
Loss of Appetite, and a general prostration of the
system. At the same time, it must be stated, that
they are neither violent nor At all dangerous in
their operation, securing as they do the- desired
end, by a steady, regular and easy influence.—
Taken daily, in doses prescribed, they -will be
found to operate in that gentle and salutary
manner, which is, in fact, their highest recom
mendation..
The following certificates, among many others
which have been received from the mopt.respect
able sources, furnish satisfactory proof of the
value arid efficacy of this highly popular medi
cine.

Dear Sir: —This is to Certify,, that my daughter
lias been troubled with Dyspepsia for a number of
years, attended with almost constant headache
and other distressing symptoms which accompa
ny the disease. She visited Boston to avail.her
self of the advice of the justly celebrated physi
cians oftjiat city, all- to no purpose. By the soli
citation of a friend, I was induced to purchase %
bottjc of Dr. Wood’s garsaparilla and Wild Cher

lieved entirely of the headache, and after two or
three bottles, the other symptoms .entirely disap
peared. . N B GIBBS.

Dear Sir, —It is with much pleasure that I add
my testimonial to the many which, you have, of
the value of your Sarsaparilla and Wild Cherry.
Bitters. I have used tliern in my family with the
happiest result—l have recommended them to
others, who have used them with equal success.
In one case in particular, of DYSPEPSIA of long
standing attended witli severe Head Ache; which
had resisted all treatment, I was ENTIRELY
CURED by the use of these bitters. I shall al
ways take great pleasure in .recommending them
to all persons suflering from any of the diseases
arising from Indigestion, Dyspepsia, and impuri

Dear Sir, —l find Dr. Wood’s Sarsaparilla and
Wild Cherry Bitters all that you recommended
them, to be, aud take great pleasure in saying,
that l think them the best prepahauon of the
kind ever offered to the public. I have been
troubled for. a long time with JAUNDICE, and a
derangement of the Stomach, attended with head
ache and Vertigo, which was so bad at times that
I could not see, and think that I am entirely cur
ed by the use of these Bitters. I have used them
in my family, and would recomme.nd them to
every one suffering from Jaundice, Indigestion,
and Head Ache. Signed,

The respectability of gentlemen in this town

their personal knowledge, derived from the use
of this Compound of Sarsaparilla and Wild Cher

value of these extracts to those suffering from
Dyspepsia, Jaundice, Indigestion, Headache, or
Scrofulous diseases. When a medicine has been
known to effect-cures in certain cases, no recom
mendation is needed, other than a.simple state
ment of facts. To those, then, who are liable to,
any complaints for which the Sarsaparilla and
Wild Cherry Bitters are advertised as a remedy we
would say, do as others have done, and find re

WINER’S

CANADIAN VERMIFUGE,
T'ltß remedy to which we would call the at
-L tention of the public; is one. which has
proved successful for a long time ; and it is uni
versally acknowledged by ajl who have tried it,
to be far “superior to any other medicine ever
employed in diseases for which it is recomnlended.
It not only destroys worms and invigorates the
whole system, but it dissolves and carries off the
superabundant slime or mucus, so prevalent in
the stomach and bowels of children, more es
pecially those in bad health. The mucus forms
the bed or nest in which worms produce their
young, and by removing it, it is impossible for
worms to remain in the body. It is harmless in
its effects on the system, aud the health of the
patient is always improved by its use, even when
no worms are discovered.
It will be seen by the following statenxent that
Mr. McCord had, previous to using “Winer’s Ca
nadian Vermifuge,” resorted to various prepara
tions recommended for worms, without any ad
vantge—this of itself, is sufficient to prove the
superiority of thi,s preparation over all others for
similar purposes. •

Sirs—l am, happy to have it in my powsr to
bear testimony bf the good effects attending the
use of your Canadian Vermifuge.
My child of two years of age, had been ill for
some seven or eight months, and had finally be
come so emanciated, that we despaired of its re
covery. Supposing the caiisc of its sickness was
worms, we gave her various medicinss recom
mended in such cases, but they produced no be-
I neficial effects. -We, had given her upas past re
covery, when we #eFb recommended by a friend,
who had heard of your medicine, to give it a tri
al—we did so without any expectation of its be
ing serviceable, bnt to our great joy and surprise,
after she had taken six doses, and six only, khe
began to revive, and if now in better health than
she has been for ten months.
I can now recommend your <e Canadian Ver
mifuge” with the greatest confidonce, and as a
friend to the young portion of the human family,
who suffer from worms. lam glad to be able to
give you such decided confidence in the success
of your medicine, and am willing you should re
fer to me any persons who have doubt on this
point. Yours truly,

Sirs : A friend of mine bearing me complain
of a severe cough arid hoarseness, together with
distress from which I had suffered for some time
back, caused by a severe cold suddenly taken,
purchased a bottle of your Syrup of Iloarhound
and Elecampane, and gave it to me. When 1
first commenced taking it I could not speak a
bo.ve .my breath, nor could lsleep without sitting
up in my bed most of the night, my cough some
nights would be incessant, so as to deprive me
of sleep; but after taking three doses the hoarse
ness was much relieved, together with the pain
caused by coughing ; 1, have continued the use
until I have taken about one half the bottle. 1
a.m perfectly free from any cough now, and am
convinced that ifl.had not obtained relief the infla
ination produced thereby would have brought on
Consumption, It is certainly the best medicine I
have ever taken for a cough, the effects are so
soon felt, that I would do all in my power to make
it known among my friends.

Dr. Swayne—Dear Sir.—ln March last I
caught a very heavy cold which settled on my
lungs, attended with a hard, dry cough, pains in
the side and breast, tightness and oppression iii
the chest. I neglected taking any medicine, ex

in indigentcircumstanc.es like myself generally
resort to, when I.becanie quite alarmed and ap

several months,, but I received no benefit; in
fact I gradually grew ; worse. I had profuse
night sweats, skin dry .and parched rio appetite,
suffered much with thirst, occasionally spitting
blood, until my physician, as well as my friends,
pronounced me going into a deep decline.—
Some of my friends recommended one medioine,
some another, and would show me long certifi

suited to my case exactly, but from their effect
upon me I despaired ever recovering my health,

“ Have you ever tried ill— ls not, do not delay

The Editor of the Philadelphia Forum thus
speaks of the medicine.
“ Valuable Article.— Scarpa’s Acoustic Oil is
: said by those who have had occasion to use it, to
be an excellent medicine in cases v of deafness
arising from colds or other causes. We know

DOCT. HOUSEMAN’S

THESE drops have proved, in all cases, the
most effectual remedy for .Colds, Coughe,

so been used in severe cases of Cholies, Cramps ,
Influenzas. Whooping Coughs. Croups'dnd Worms,
with most wonderful success ; it also opens the
excretory vessels, which prevents a variety of
complaints. They have been proved a Healing

have snatched many suffering fedlow creatures

by any other now in use ; and many times, if
taken in common colds, it might save hoavy bills
for medical attendance, and severe turns of sick

MEDICINES,

ALLftEALING OINTMENT.
dhltG preceding figure is given io represent
JL the Insensible Perspiration. It is the great
evacuation for the impurities of the body. It
will be noticed, that a thick cloudy mist issues
from all points of the surface, which indicates
that this perspiration flows uninterruptedly when
we are im health, but ceases when we are sick.
Life cannot be sustained without it. it is thrown
off from the blood and other juices of the body,
and disposes by this means, of nearly all the im
purities within ns. Thfe lahguage-of Scripture is,
Pin the 6Moc! is the life.” If it ever becomes im
pure, it may be traced directly to the stoppage
of the insensible perspiration. . Thus we see, all
that is necessary when the blood is stagnant, or
infected, is to open the pores, and it relieves
itself from all impmitj dnstantly. Its own heat
and vitality, are sufficient, • without one particle
ofmedicine, except to open the pores upon the
surface. Thus we see the folly oftaking so many:
internal remedies. ■ All practitioners, however,
direct their efforts to restore” the Insensible
Perspiration.: . The Thompsonian, for instance,
steams, the Hvdropathist shrouds us in wet blan
kets, the Homopathist deals out ■ infinitisshnala,
the Allopathist bleeds and doses us with mercury,
and the blustering Quack gorges us with pills,
pills, pillri , }. •
To give some idea, of the amount of the In
sensible Perspiration, we-will state that the lear
ned Dr. Lewenhock,, ascertained that five-eights
of all we receive in the stomach, passed off by
this means, In other words, if we eat and drink
eight pounds per day, we. evacuate five pounds
of it by the Insensible Perspiration.
This is none ether than the used up particles
of the blood, and other juices giving place
to the new and fresh ones. To check this, there
fore, is to retain in the system five-eightS of all
the virulent matter that nature demands should
leave the body. • n ’ > - ,
By a sudden transition from heat to cold, the
pores, are stopped, the perspiration ceases, and
disease begins at once to develope itself.—
Hence, a stoppage of .this flow of the juices, or
iginates so many complaints. Nine tenths Os the
world die from disease induced by a stoppage of
the Insensible Perspiration. *.■*..
Let me askj now, every candid mind, what
course seems the most reasonable to pursue,
to unstop the pores, after , they are closed. —
Would you give physic to unstop the pores? Or
would you apply something that would do this
upon the snrface, where the clogging actually is?
And yet 1 kilow ofno .physician who makes any
external application to effect it. Under these
circumstancesj I present to physicians, and to
all others*: McAlisters, AM-J/ea/ing Ointment
or the World's Salve. It has power to restore
perspiration on the feet, on the head, around
old sores, upon the chsst jin short- upon any part
of the body, whether diseased slightly or severe
ly. It has power ,to catisc .all .external sores,
scrofulous humors, skin diseases,, poisonous
wounds, to discharge their putrid matter, and
then heals them. It is a remedy that sweeps oft’
the whole catalogue of cutaneous disorders, and
restores the entire cuticle to its healthy functions.
It is a remedy that forbids the .necessity of so
many and deleterious drugs taken into the stom
ach. I have used it for the last fourteen years
for all diseases of the chest, consumption, liver,
involving the utmost danger and responsibility,
and I declare before Heaven and man, that not
in one s'ingle case has it failed to benefit, when
| the patient wag within the rcachof mortal means.
I have had physicians-, learned in the profes
sion, I have had ministers of the Gospel, Judges
on the bench, Aldermen and Lawyers, gentle
men of the highest erudition and multitudes of
the poor, use it in every variety of way, and there
has been but one voice—one united and univer
sal voice—saying “McAlister, your Oointment is

ISDIAN tRGETABIE PANACEA.
READ THE FOLLOWING CERTIFI
CATE.
TiTESSRS. ROWAND & WALTON—Gentlemen:
-L’J. As you succeeded in effecting a cure upon
me with your “DR. CULLEN’S INDIAN VEG
ETABLE PANACEA,” after the moat.eminent
physicians in Cuba, New York, Baltimore, and
Phiiadqlphia, and all the most popular advertised
medicimes of the day had failed ,- you are fully en
titled to all the benefit which the following state
ment of facts can confer.
In the year 1819,’ while at • sea oh the brig
Commodore Perry, ofthisport my leg wasinjur-t
ed by the anchor. The wound became scrofulous
—was highly inflamed and painful, particularly in
spring and summer. From -the time of the acci
dent, J was under the treatment of the most cele
brated physicians in the Island of Cuba, and this
city, until 1824. The summer of that year 4
spent in the country to make a fair trial ofSwain’s
Panacea; but even that popular medicine failed
to produce any decided improvement. In 1830 I
applied to the roost eminent surgeon in New
York city, and I was for a considerable time un
der his care without any particular benefit. ■*
From that time- until 1844, there was no change
for the better; and during that year, while in
Baltimore my leg was slightly injured by a rail-n
road car, which caused the ulcers to rage With
tenfold violence, A applied to a physician, who,
after exhausting his skill in vain, said “ the ua-<
sound timber must be removed, or he could not
keep the craft much longer afloat!” Not liking
to part with van old shipmate, however trouble
some, I refused to have it taken off; my leg,
however, became so much worse that the ulcers
extended from my foot almost to the knee, laying
bare the bone, so exceedingly sore that I could
not bear even wilted plaiitain leaves, or the most
simple salve to touch it.
Thus matters stood in October last, when for
your gratification I Commenced with Dr. Cullen’s
Indian V egetable Panacea, with little faith, I
confess, for I had used incredible quantities of
Sarsaparilla, and in fact, every other medicine
which I saw advertised; or heard recommended.
Physicians had failed and-, hope * had fled ! Imag
ine, then, my joy, when: (after cuffering TIFEN
TY-SIX YEARS,) I found before J finished the
first bottle, that the Panacea had wrought a de
cided change for the better- <. .
I am now a well man, and have been cured by
your Panacea alone, without the iiSC of any other
medicine or preparation whatever ! .
Any person desirous of obtaining further parti
culars can be granted by’calling upon me at my
place of business, No. 126 N. Thirteenth street,

TO relieve arid to cure suffering humanity ft.
a most important and interesting undertaking.
In a matter of such vast moment,
happiness, and even life itself, are involved, de
ception would be unpardonable, i t > u
it gives u3 great pleasure to speak thus public
ly of the astounding efficacy of the above prepar
ation, of which we have recently been an eyo
witness, in the case of Mr. Isaac Brooks, jr., Jef
ferson street, four doors west of .Schuylkill Sixth
street, below Locust. This gentleman, for a
long time was severely afflicted with that most
loathsome and unyielding disease, the Scrofula,
so much so that the superior, half of his person
was awfully disfigured, the ravages of the com
plaint having carried away his nose, palate, and
lip, and filled his throat with ulcers.
This most distressed individual, we are enabled
to say, has been entirely curod ofhis disease by.
the omnipotency of “Dr. Cullen’s Indian Vegeta
ble Panacea.” This is; without doubt, one of
the most wonderful cures of Scrofula ever per
formed on a human being.
We have been induced to notice the matter
before us from motives of sympathy to the .afflict
ed—for what, is wealth, nay, what is life, with
out health ? If there is a “balm in. Gilead,” how
important that it should be known ! >• >.
„lt is.our deliberate judgementthat the Panacea
in question, is destined tt> rise, to very great im
portance in the medical world. We regard it aa
a pleasurable duty to give publicity to this most
invaluable remedy. And who that is suffering
from the health and life-destroying disease refer
red to, would not wish to make trial of a medi
cine which promises so much, and that too, Upon
such reasonable terms.
Many other .cases, in point, in our immediate
neighborhood, might be referred to, in attestation
of the wonderful power of this Panacea, in the
cure of Scrofula, mercurial diseases, white swells
ings, tetter, &c., and all impurities ofthe blood :•
but it is not necessary. These Pets serve to
i convince us that the “ Vegetable Panacea” is a
most extraordinary remedy. And we would say, in,
good faith, to the people wheresoever scattered,
who may be suffering from any ofsthc complaints
alluded to, by all means send to Messrs. Rowand
