by all in need of a tonic, aperient or alterative
remedy. S irsaparilia takes a high rank among
Pfcyssciaos and ail others in the list of curative
agent*, and it i* this tact which has rendered it so
deservedly popular over all other medicines ot
the day. In Dr. Wood's standard preparation, it
is warranted to be found in great purity and
strength, and gaining much by Us union with the
RGid Cherry, a tonic of the iirst order. This
happy comlf.aa'ic* i. the only one ever made of
these article, and founded a* it i* on the best

Liver and Stomach, and strengthen the nerves,
at once securing health & vigor to the whole sys

Indigestion or Xervcas irritation, they have been
used with remarkable success ; nor are they less

they are neither vfoent nor stall dangerous ii.

Taken daily,in doses prescribed, they will be
found to operate in that gentle and salutary
manner, which is, in fact, their highest recom

The following certificates, among naauv others
which have been received from the most respect

Mr. E. Thornton, Jr.
Dear Sir—This is to certify, that my daughter
has been troubled with Dyspepsia for a number of
years, attended with almost constant headache
and other distreinz symptoms which accompa
ny the disease. She visited Boston to
aelfofthe advice of the justly celebrated physi
cians of that city, all to no purpose. By the soli
citation of a friend, I woe induced to purchase a
bottle of Dr. Wood's Sarsaparilla and Wild Cher
ry Bitters. Before taking one bottle she was re
lieved entirely ofthe headache, and after two or
three bottles, the other symptoms entirely disap
peared. N B GIBBS.
New Bedford, August 12, 1544.
Dear Sir.—lt is with much pleasure that I aid
my testimonial to the many which you have, of
che value of your Sarsaparilla and Wild Cherry
Bitters. I have used them mmy family with the
hippiest result—l have recommended them to
others, who have used them with equal success.
In one case in particular, of DYSPEPSIA of long
standing attended with severe Head Ache, which
ini resisted all treatment, I was ENTIRELY
CI RED by the esc ot* these bitters. I shall al
ways take great pleasure in recommending them
to ell persons sutfering from any of the diseases
arising from T adiges;ion, Dyspepsia, and impuri

Dear Sir.—l find Dr. Wood's Sarsaparilla and
Wild Cherry Bitters all that you recommended
them to be, and take great pleasure in saying,
that I think them the best fkepahahos ofthe
kind ever offered to the public. I have been
troubled for a longtime with JAUNDICE, and a
derangement Os the Stomach, attended with head
ache and Vertigo, which was so bad at times that
I could not see, and think that I am entirely cur
ed by the use of these Bitter*. I have used them
in rny family, and would recommend them to
every one suffering from Jacndice, I.vdigestio.v,
and Head Ache. Signed,

WINER’S
CiUADfAI VEBUIFUGE,
THE remedy to whieh we would call the at
tention of the public, is c-ne which has
proved successful for a tong time ; and it is uni
versally acknowledged by ail who have tried it.
to be far superior to any other medicine ever
employed in diseases for which it is recommended.
It not only destroys worms and invigorates the
whole system, but it dissolves and carries ofi’ the
superabundant slime or mucus, so prevalent in
the stomach and bowels of children, more es
pecially those in bad health. The mucus forms
the bed cr nest in which worms produce their
youn£, and by removing it, it is impossible for
worms to remain in the body. It is harmless in
its edects on the system, and the health of the
patient is always improved by its use, even when
no worms are discovered.
It will be seen by t, r-dbilowing statement that
Mr. McCord had. preivis to using--Winer's Ca
nadian Vermifuge,” resorted to various prepara
tions recommended for worms, without any a:J
vantge—this of itself, is sufficient to prove the
superiority of this preparation over ail others for
similar purposes.

S.rs—l am happy to have it in my power to

use of your Canadian Vermifuge.
My child of two years of age, had been ill for
some seven or eight -monijis, and had finally be
come so emanciated, that we despaired of its re
covery. Supposin g the cause of its sickness was
worms, we gave her various medieinss recom
mended in such cases, but they produced no be
neficial effects. We had given her up as past re
covery, when we were recommended by a friend,
who had heard of your medicine, to give it atri
al —we did so without any expectation of its be
ing serviceable, bnt to our great joy and surprise,
after she had taken six doses, and s.x only, she
began to revive, and is now in better health than
she has been for ten months.
I can cow recommend your “Canadian T~or
mifuge” with the greatest confidonce, and as a
fr.end to the young portion ofthe human family,
who suffer troin worms. lam glad to be able to
give you such decided confidence in the success
of year medicine, and am willing you should re

point. Yours tralr,

Dr. Swatxe—Dear Sir —ln 3/arch last I
caught a very heavy cold which settled on my
lungs, attended with a hard, dry cough, pains in
the side aud breast, tightness and oppression ia
the chest. I neglected taking any medicine, ex
cept the usual simple remedies, which persons
in indigent circumstances like myself generally
resort to, when I became quite alarmed and ap
plied to my family physician. lie treated me
several months, but I received no benefit; in
fact I gradually grew worse. I had profuse
night sweats, skin dry and parched no appetite,
suffered much with thirst, occasionally spitting
blood, until my physician, as well as my friends,
pronounced me going into a deep decline.—
Some of my friends recommended one medioine,
some another, and would show me long certifi
cates of purported cures, many of which I thought
suited to my case exactly, but from their effect
upon me I despaired ever recovering my health,
but gave myself up to die of that scourge of the

been one of the wise and prudent, and already
brought a bottle, the question is settled; you
have recorded your hearing. Scarpa's Oil for
Deafness never fails. It is the only medicine that
will cure. Thousands of deaf persons will give
their testimony in its tauor. The beauty of the
thing is that it cures yon without producing any
pai.u.”
The Editor of the Philadelphia Forum thus
speaks of the medicine.
“Valuable Article. —Scirpa r s Acoustic Oil is
said by those who have had occasion to use it, to
be an excellent medicine in cases of deafness
arising from colds or other causes. We know-’
a young lady who not long since wis almost im
mediately relieved by it, and the certificate of
Mr. Daniel Graeifisan unanswerable testimony
of its efficacy.”
And again from the Editor of the Morning
Chronicle:
“Important for the Leaf. —We commend to
rhe particular attention of those desirous of hav
ing their hearing restored, Scarpa's Oil for
Deafness. We hear it highly spoken of by
those who have used it, and of course known its
value.”
Here is something worth attending to, coming,
as it does, from a man so extensively known as is
Xlr. Graetf, both in the city and country:
“I hereby certify, that from the effects of a
severe cold last winter, I became partially deaf,
attended with very disagreeable noises, like
ringing ofbells. fee., which gradually increased,
until I completed lost the hearing of one ear—
when I was induced to use Scarpa's Acous
tic Oil, and am now happy to say, that with
the use of one bottle of the above medicine, I
can hear as well as ever, and all disagreeable
noises have entirely disappeared. Any further
information respecting my case, will be gladly
given, by calling on me at 45> North Fifth street,

Mr. Joux J. Davis :
Having sold a number ofdozen of Doct. House

Davis, of Hudson, to my customers, and also
having used a number of bottles in m v family, I
am fully prepared to recommend them as a valu

that every family ought to be ecfeitartly supplied
with them, in order to use them in the first stages
of a cold. ETHAN S. FOX, of the firm ofClark

Mr. Joax J. Davis,
This is to certify, that I have been afilicted for
twenty years, with a cough so severe, that I had
been unable to attend to business, at times.—
Having made a trial of Dr. Houseman's German
Ccvgh Drops, prepared by J. J. Davis, I have
found that in using but three bottles, I am nearly
cured ofthe cough. I have used the same in ray
family, and am well satisfied that they are a cure
for Coughs and Colds. The greatest relief I ever
had by the use of medicine, for a cough or cold,
was by three dose3 ofthe above drops, and I do
recommend them to all who are afflicted with
such as colds and coughs.

Mr. Johv J. Davis,
I am one of those who are willing to acknowl

which drops, I can safely say, have proved to
my satisfaction, as a remedy for colds, coughs,
and weakness, which I was subject to for some
time past. The above drops I can recommend to
‘the public: This is indeed a medicine designed
for family use ; its powers are unequaled in the
cure of the Croup, Asthma and Whooping Cough,
as it will seldom tail in all the above described
complaints to procure immediate relief and ease.

THE pr't.'-lin? figure is £iv?n to reseat
the Insensible Perspiratioa. It is taegreat
(evacuation for the imparities of the body. It
will be noticed that a thick cloudy mist issues
from all points of the surface, which indicates
| that this perspiration Sows uninterruptedly whe
i we are in health, but ceases when we are sick.
! Life cannot be sustained without it. It is thrown
; off from the biood and other juices of the body,
i and disposes by thin means, of nearly all the iin
j purities within ns. The language of Scripture is,
| Pin the blood is the life.” If it ever becomes im
[ pure, it may be traced directly to the stoppage
i of tb e insensible perspiration. Thus we see . ali
that is necessary when the blood is stagnant, or
I infected, is to open the pores, and it relieves
] itself from ail impurity instantly. Its own heat
! and vitality are sufficient, without one particle
of medicine, except to open the pores upon the,
surface. Thus w e see the foliy cftsk.ii;? soenny
internal remedies. Ail practitioners, however,
direct their efforts to restore” the Insensible
| Perspiration. The Thompsonian, for instance,
] steams, the Hvdropathist shrouds us iu wet blan
kets, the Homopathist deals out infinitesimals,
the Allopathist bleeds and doses us with mercury
and the blustering Quack gorges us with pills,
pills, pills.
To give some idea, of tire amount of the In- :
sensible Perspiration, we will state that the lear
ned Dr. Lewenhock, ascertained that five-eights
of all we receive in the stomach, passed oft’ by
this means. In other words, if we eat and drink
eight pounds per day, we evacuate five pounds
©fit by the Insensible Perspiration.
This is none other than the etsed ap particles
of the blood, and other juices giving place
to the new and fresh ones. To check this, there
fore, is to retain in the system five-eights of all
the virulent matter that nature demands should
leave the body.
By a sudden transition from heat to cold, the
pores, are stopped, the perspiration ceases, and
disease begins at once to develope itself.—
Heuce, a stoppage of this flow of the juices, or
iginates so many complaints. Nine tenths ofthe
, world die from disease induced by a stoppage of
j the Insensible Perspiratioa.
Let me ask, now, every candid mind, what
i course seems the most reasonable to pursue,
j to unstop the pores, after they are closed. —
Would you give physic to unstop tiie pores? Or
would you apply something that would do this
upon the snrface, where the dogging actually is?
And yet I know of no physician ivho makes any
external application to effect it. Under these
circumstances, I present to physicians, and to
all others, McAllisters, All Healing Ointment
or the World's Salve. It has power to restore
perspiration on the feet, on the head, around
old sores, upon the chest, in short- upon any part
ofthe body, whether diseased slightly or severe
ly. It has power to cause ail external sores,
scrofulous humors, skm diseases, poisonous
wounds, to discharge their putrid matter, and
then heals them. It is a remedy that sweeps off
the whole catalogue of cutaneous disorders, and
restores the entire cuticle to its healthy functions.
It is a remedy that forbids the necessity of so
many and deleterious drugs takcH into the stom
ach. I have used it for the last fourteen years
for all diseases of the chest, consumption, liver,
involving the utmost danger and responsil ility,
and I declare before Heaven and man, that not
in one single case has it failed to benefit, wber
the patient was within the reach of mortal means.
I have had physicians, learned in the profes
sion. I have had ministers of the Gospel, Judges
on the bench, Aldermen and Lawyers, gentle
men of the highest erudition and multitudes of
the poor, use it in every variety of way, ard there
has been bat one voice—one united and univer

T'O reiifve and to enr? suffering humanity is
a most important and interesting undertaking.
In a matter of such vast moment - , where health ,
happiness, and even lile itself, are involved, de
ception would be unpardonable.
It gives us great pleasure to speak thus public
ly ofthe astounding efficacy of the above prepar
ation. of whieh we hare recently been an eye
witness, in the case of 3lr. Isaac Brooks, jr., Jef
ferson street, four doors west of Schuylkill Sixth
street, below Locust. This gentleman, for a
long time was severely affiicted with that most
loattisome and unyielding d.iease, the Scrofula;
so much so that the superior half of his person
was awfully disfigured, the ravages of the com
plaint having carried away his nose, palate, and
lip, and tilled his throat with ulcers.
This most distressed individual, we are enabled
to say, has been entirely cured of his disease by
the omnipotency of “Dr.Cuden’s Indian Vegeta
ble Panacea.” This is, without doubt, ©ne of
the most wonderful cures of Scrofula ever per
formed on a human being.
We have been induced to notice the matter
before ns from motives of sympathy to the afflict
ed—for what is wealth, nay, what is life, with
out health / If there is a “balm in Gilead,” how
important that it should be known*
Ii is ocr deliberate judgement that the Panacea
in question, is destined to rise to very great im
portance in the medical world. We regard it a*
a pleasurable duty to give publicity to this most
invaluable remedy. And who that is suffering
from the health and life-destroying disease refer
red to, would not wish to make trial of a medi
cine which promises so much, and that too, upon
such reasonable terms - .
Many ether cases in point; in onr immediate
neighborhood, might be referred to, in attestation
of the wonderful power of this Panacea, in the
cure of Scrofula, mercurial diseases, w hite sv eli
ings.. tetter, &c., and aii impurities ofthe blood :
but it is not necessary. These facts serve to
convince us that the “ Vegetable Panacea” is a
most extraordinary remedy. And we would sav, in
good faith, to the people wheresoever scattered;
who may be suffering from any of the complaints
alluded to, by ali means send to Messrs. Rowand
& IFalton, 376 market street, for “Doctor Cul
