ous and other diseases, which arise from a weak
and debilitated'condition of the system..
These pills are prepared by Dr. ti. K. Tyler, a
regularly educated physician, who from many
years experience, can confidently recommend
them as the best remedy for Ague and Fever ever
offered to the public ; haring frequently tested
their great curative power upon those wbo had
long suffered under the troublesome and danger
ous diseases.
Several eminent physicians who have obtained
a high standing for their successful treatment ol
Ague and Fever, use this preparation, and assert
that they have never known a single instance
where it was taken as directed, that it did not
effect a permanent and lasting cure.
These pills contain neither mercury orarsenic,’

VEGETABLE ANTI-BiLUOUS FAMILY PILLS,
For the Cure of BiUious Fever, Yellow Fever,
Remittent and Intermittent Fevers, Inflam
matory, Nervous and Putrid Fever, Pain in
the Head, Side, Back and Stomach ; Inflam
mation of the Brain, Stomach, Lungs, Liver,
Kidneys, Throat and Chest, d^c.
DR. GORDON'S PILLS are truly the sick
man’s friend. No Traveller or Family
should be without them. Their timely adminis
tration will prevent much pain and suffering, and
save many valuable lives.
These Pills were compounded by Dr. Gordon
after years of study and careful observation upon
the nature of different medicines, and the effect
which they produce upon different constitutions
in various forms of disease. They have been ex
tensively used by some of our most eminent
Physicians, and by many private families for sev
eral years ; and such has been the satisfaction
which they have given, that it is firmly believed
that the vegetable kingdom does not furnish any
materials for a purgative medicine, which sur
passes forgeueral use, those of which these pills
are composed. They do not contain Calomel,
Mercury or any mineral preparation; but are
composed entirely of concentrated vegetable
extracts, carefully prepared and so combined as
to be Certain, Sqfc, and Easy in their operation
—should it be otherwise, the stomach and bowels
contain foul and acrid bilious matter—showing
great necessity for purgative medicine.
The Bowels being the principal channel th rough
which a great portion ofthe impurities of the sys
tem are discharged, it is evident that whatever
acts beneficially on them must be conducive to
health.
If a physician is called to a patient, what is the
first thing done t He prescribes a dose or two of
purgative medicines; and then, after a day or
two, if the patient is no better, he gives him an
other dose of purgative medicine, and so on ; do
ing some other little things—but the main reli
ance for a cure is upon the effect produced by
purgative medicines. Therefore ifyou are sick
delay not, but take a few doses of Dr. Gordon’s
Vegetable Family Pills, and be again restored to
health. For sale by

OR. WOOD’S SARSAPARILLA,
anil
WILD CHERRY BITTERS,
For tfce permanent rsmovsl of all aneii
diseases as take their rise in an Im
pure Blood, Impaired Digestion,
Morbid state of tbe Liver and
Stomach, Weohness of the
Nervous System, and a
disordered Habit of
Constitution generally.
Dr. Wood’s Sarsaparilla and IFild Cherry Bit
ters have already, by their substantial excellence,
won a degree of public favor and patronage,
which puts them beyond the need ot recommen
dation. Being faithfully prepared of the most
excellent materials, they can be fully confided in
by all in need of a tonic, aperient or alterative
remedy. Sarsaparilla takes a high rank among
Physicians and all others in the list ot curative
. agents, and it is this fact which has rendered it so
deservedly popular over all other medicines of
the day. In Dr. Hood’s standard preparation, it
is warranted to be found in great purity and
strength, and gaining much by its union with the
IFild Cherry, a tonic of the first order. This
happy combination is the only one ever made ot
these article, and founded as it is on the best
medical principles, and their virtues extracted by
a rigjd chemical analysis, experience has shown
its unusual power and efficacy.
This preparation will be found on trial, to be a
sure and speedy remedy for the diseases enumer
ated above. They punty the blood, secure regu
lar digestion, promote a healthy action of the
Liver and Stomach, and strengthen the nerves,
at once securing health & vigor to the whole sys
tem. In all cases of despondency, arising from
Indigestion or Nervous irritation, they have been
used with remarkable success ; nor are they less
useful as a remedy for Headache, Flatulency,
Loss of Appetite, and a general prostration ofthe
system. At the same time, it must be stated, that
they are neither violent nor at ail dangerous in
their operation, securing as they do the desired
end, by a steady, regular and easy iutluence.—
Taken daily, In doses prescribed, they will be
found to operate in that gentle and salutary
manner, which is, in fact, their highest recom
mendation.
The following certificates, among many others
which have been received from the most respect
able sources, furnish satisfactory proof ofthe
value and efficacy of this highly popular medi
cine.
Sandwich, Sept. 4, 1544.
Mr. E. Thornton, Jr.
Dear Sir:—This is to certify, that my daughter
has been troubled with Dyspepsia for a number of
years, attended with almost constant headache
and other distressing symptoms which accompa
ny the disease. She visited Boston to avail.her
selfof the advice ofthe justly celebrated physi
cians ofthat city, all to no purpose. By the soli
citation of a friend, I was induced to purchase a
bottle of Dr. Wood’s Sarsaparilla and Wild Cher
ry Bitters. Before taking one bottle she was re
lieved entirely of the headache, and after two or
three bottles, the other symptoms entirely disap
peared. N B GiBBS.
New Bedford, August 19, 1544.
Dear Sir, —It is with much pleasure that I add
my testimonial to the many which you have, of
the value of your Sarsaparilla and Wild Cherry
Bitters. I have used them in my family with the
happiest result—l have recommended them to
others, who have used them with equ il success.
In one case in particular, of DYSPEPSIA oflong
standing attended with severe Head Ache, which
had resisted all treatment, I was ENTIRELY
CURED by the use of these bitters. I shall al
ways take great pleasure in recommending them
to all persons suffering from any of the diseases
arising from Indigestion, Dyspepsia, and impuri
ties ofthe blood.
G MACOMBER.
New Bedford, Aug. 10, 1844.
Dear Sir, —I find Dr. Wood’s Sarsaparilla and
Wild Cherry Bitters all that you recommended
them to be, and take great pleasure in sayiug,
that I think them the best preparation of the
kind ever offered to the public. I have been
troubled for a longtime with JAUNDICE, and a
derangement of the Stomach, attended with head
ache and Vertigo, which was so bad at times that
I could not see, and think that I am entirely cur
ed by the use of these Bitters. I have used them
in my family, and would recommend them to
every one suffering from Jaundice, Indigestion,
and Head Ache. Signed,
JOHN BAYLIES.
From the New-Bedford Register.
Dr. Wood’s Sarsaparilla db Wild Cher
ry Bitters.
The respectability of gentlemen in this town
and vicinity, who testify to the benefits, within
their personal knowledge, derived from the use
of this Compound of Sarsaparilla and Wild Cher
ry, is such as to put to rest ail doubts as to the
value of these extracts to those suffering from
Dyspepsia, Jaundice, Indigestion, Headache, or
Scrofulous diseases. When a medicine has been
known to effect cures in certain cases, no recom
mendation is needed, other than a simple state
ment of frets. To those, then, who are liable to
any complaints for which the Sarsaparilla and
Wild Cherry Bitters are advertised as a remedy we
would say, do as others have done, and find re
lief in the way pointed out by the proprietor of
this highly popular compound.

Dr. Swayne —Dear Sir.—ln Mtrch last I
caught a very heavy cold which settled on my
lungs, attended with a hard, dry cough, pains in
the side and breast, tightness and oppression in
the chest. I neglected taking any medicine, ex
cept the usual simple remedies, which persons
in indigent circumstances like myself generally
resort to, when I became quite alarmed and ap
plied to my family physician. He treated me
several months, but I received no benefit; in
fact I gradually grew worse. I had profuse
night sweats, skin dry and parched no appetite,
suffered much v ith thirst, occasionally spitting
blood, until my physician, as well as my friends,
pronounced me going into a deep decline.—
Some of my friends recommended one medioine,
some another, and would show me long certifi
cates of purported cures , many of which I thought
suited to my case exactly, but from their effect
upon me I despaired ever recovering iny health,
but gave myself up to die of that scourge of the
land
PULMONARY CONSUMPTION.
Fortunately at this time, a friend of mine pas

the name of Martin Lutz, your agent in Harris

relieved me ss much that 1 sent and got five

the use ofyour celebrated preparation, the Com

ACOUSTIC OIL, for the cure of Deafness,
Pains, and the discharge of matter from the Ears.
Also all those disagreeable noises, like the buz
zing of insects failing of water, whizzing of steam,
&c. &c., whtch are symptoms of approaching
Deofness, and also generally attendant with the
disease. Many persons who have been deaf for
ten, fifteen, and twenty years, and were obliged
to use ear-trumpets, have, ofter using one or two
bottles, thrown aside their trumpets, being made
perfectly well. Physicians and surgeons highly
recommamiing its use.
Read the following from the Philadelphia.—
Public Ledger.
“Hare you ever tried itl —lf not, do not delay
another day, but send immediately; if you have
been one of the wise and prudent, and already
brought a bottle, the question is settled; you
have recorded your hearing. Scar pit's Oil for
Deafness never fails. It is the only medicine that
will cure.’ Thousands of deaf persons will give
their testimony in its fauor. The beauty of the
thing is that it cures you without producing any
pain.”
The Editor of the Philadelphia Forum thus
speaks of the medicine.
Valuable Article. —Scarpa’s Acoustic Oil is
said by those who have had occasion to use it, to
be an excellent medicine in cases of deafness
arising from colds or other causes. We know
a young lady who not long since wis almost im
mediately relieved by it, and the certificate of
Mr. Daniel Graeif is au unanswerable testimony
of its efficacy.”
And again from the Editor of the Morning
Chronicle:
Important for the Deaf. —\V T e commend to
the particular attention of those desirous of hav
ing their hearing restored, Scarpa's Oil for
Deafness. We hear it highly spoken of by
those who have used it, and of course known its
value.”
Here is something worth attending to, coming,
as it does, from a man so extensively known as is
Mr. Graeff, both in the city and country:
“I hereby certify, that from the effects of a
severe cold last winter, 1 became partially deaf,
attended with very disagreeable noises, like
ringing ofbells, &c., which gradually increased,
until I completely lost the hearing of one ear—
when I was induced to use Scarpa’s Acous
tic Oil, and am now happy to say, that with
the use of one bottle of the above medicine, I
can bear as well as ever, and all disagreeable
noises have entirely disappeared. Any further
information respectiag my case, will be gladly

DOCT. HOUSEMAN’S
ERXAN COUCH DROPS.
THESE drops have provrtl, ia all eases, the
ufoit effectual remedy lor Cold?, Couztw ,
Asthmas, Raising of Blood, aud all affections of
the Breast and Lungs, leading to a ronsuroption,
that ever come before the public ; they have al
so been used in severe cases of Cholies, Cramps,
Influenzas. Whooping Coughs. Croups and Worms,
with most wonderful success ; it also opens the
excretory vessels, which prevents a variety of
complaints. They have been proved a Healing
Balm and genuine Restorative in all the above
complaints, and there is reason to believe they
have snatched many suffering fellow creatures
from an untimely grave; as they have made
cures on subjects thought past recovery. A sin
gle bottle will be sufficient to satisfy anyperson
that it is a valuable medicine, and not surpassed
by any other now in use ; and many times, if
taken in common colds, it might save heavy bills
I for medical attendance, and severe turns of sick
ness, if not death.

had by the us'fe of metjjcine, for a cough or cold,
was by three doses ot the above drops, and I do
recommend them to all who are afflicted with
such as colds and coughs.

McALLISTER’sT
ALLHEALING OINTMENT.
THE preceding: figure is ripen to represent
the Insensible Perspiration. It is the great
evacuation for the impurities of the body. It
will be noticed that a thick cloudy mist issues
from all points of the surface, which indicates
that this perspiration Bows uninterruptedly when
we are in health, but ceases when we are sick.
Life cannot be sustained without it. It is thrown
off from the blood and other juices ot the body,
and disposes by this means, of nearly all the im
purities within ns. The language of Scripture is,
inn the blood is the life.” lfit ever becomes im
pure, it may be traced directly to the stoppage
of the insensible perspiration. Thus we see, all
that is necessary when the blood is stagnant, or
infected, is to open the pores, and it relieves
itself from all impurity instantly. Its own heat
and vitality are sufficient, without one particle
ofmedicine, except to open the pores upon ihe
surface. Thus we see the folly of taking so many
internal remedies. Ail practitioners, however,
direct their efforts to the Insensible
Perspiration. The Thompsonian, for instance,
steams, the Hydropatbist shrouds us in wet blan
kets, the Homopathist deals - out infinitissimals,
the Ailopatliiat breeds and doses us with mercury
and the blustering Quack gorges us with pills,
pills, pills.
To give some idea, of the amount of the In
sensible Perspiration, we will state that the lear
ned Dr. Lewenbock, ascertained that fire-eights
of all we receive in the stomach,’ passed off by
this means. In other words, if we eat and drink
eight pounds per day, we evacuate five pounds
of it by the Insensible Perspiration.
This is none other than the used up particles
of the blood, and other juices giving place
to the new aud fresh ones. To check this, there
fore, is to retain in the system five-eights of all
the virulent matter that nature demands should
leave the bodv.
By a sudden transition from heat to cold, the
pores, are stopped, the perspiration ceases, and
disease begins at once to devclope itself.—
Hence, a stoppage of this flow of the juices, or
iginates so many complaints. Nine tenths oftlie
world die from disease induced by a stoppage of
the Insensible Perspiration.
Let me ask, now, every candid mind, what
course seems the most reasonable to pursue,
to unstop the pores, after they are closed. —
Would you give physic to unstop the pores? Or
would you apply something that would do this
upon the snrface, where the clogging actually is?
And yet I know of no physician who makes any
external application to effect it. Under these
circumstances, I present to physicians, and to
all others, McAllisters, All Healing Ointment
or the World's Solve. It has power to restore
perspiration on the feet, on the bead, around
old sores, upon the chest, in short- upou any part
of the body, whether diseased slightly or severe
ly. It has power to cause all external sores,
scrofulous humors, skin diseases, poisonous
wounds, to discharge their putrid matter, and
then heals them. It is a remedy that sweeps off
the whole catalogue of cutaneous disorders, and
restores the entire cuticle to its healthy functions.
It is a remedy that forbids the necessity of so
many and deleterious drugs taken into the stom
ach. I have used it for the last fourteen years
for till diseases of the chest, consumption, liver,
involving the utmost danger and responsibility,
and I declare before Heaven and man, that not
in one single case has it failed to benefit, when
the patient was within the reach of mortal means.
I have had physicians, learned m the profes
sion, I have had ministers of the Gospel, Judges
on the bench, Aldermen* and Lawyers, gentle
men of the highest erudition and multitudes o 1 ’
the poor, use it in every variety of way, and there
has been but one voice—one unit and and univer
sal voice—saying “McAlister, your Oointment is
good.

GROSS SURFACE.
Its first action is to expel all humor. It wil
not cease drawing till the face is free from an)
matter that may be lodged under the skin, and
frequently breaking out to the surface. It then
heals. When there is nothing but grossness, or
dull repulsive surface, it begins to soften aud
soften until the skin becomes as smooth and del
icate as a child’s.
Worms* If parents knew how fatal most
medicines were to children taken inwardly, they
would be slow to resort to them. Especially
,‘mercurial lozenges” called ‘‘medicated lozen
ges,” “vermifuges” pills, &c. The truth is, no
one can tell, invariably when worms are present.
Now Jet me say to parents that this Salve will
always tell if a child has worms. It will drive
every vestage of them away. (Read the direc
tions around the box.)
Old Mores. That some sores are an outlet
to impurities of the system is, because they can
not pass off through the natural channels of the
Insensible Perspiration. If such sores are healeii
up the impurities must have some other outlet,
or it will endanger life. This salve will always
provide for such emergencies.
fthenniatHm. It removes almost im
mediately the inflamation and swelling, when the
pain of coarse ceases.
Corns. Occasional use of the Ointment
will always keep corns from growing. People
need never be troubled with them if they will

Asa family medicine, no man can measure its
value. So long as the star* roll along over the
Heavens—so long as man treads the earth, sub
ject to ail inilamlties of the desh—so long as dis
eases and sickness is known—just so long will
this good Ointment be used and esteemed.—

INDIAN VEGETABLE PANACEA
READ TUB FOLLOWING CERTIFI
CATE.
TITESSKS. BftWISD 4 WILTON—GmUrmrs:
-Lv-M. As vou succeeded in effecting a cure open
me with your “DR. CULLEN’S INDIAN VEG
ETABLE PANACEA,” after the most eminent
physicians in Cuba, New York, Baiumcre, and
Philadelphia, and all the most popular advertised
medicines of the day had tailed, yon are fnlly en
titled to ail the benefit which the following state
ment of facts can confer.
In the year 1819, while at sea on the brig
Commodore Perry, ofthisport my leg was inter-’
ed by the anchor. The wound became
—was highly inflamed and painful, particularly in
spring and summer. Fropi the time of the acci
dent, I was under the treatment of the most cele
brated physicians in the Island of Cuba, and this
city, until 1824. The summer of that year I
spent in the country to make a fair trial ofSwain's
Panacea; but even that popular medicine failed
to produce any decided improvement. In 1830 I
applied to the -most eminent surgeon in New
York city, and I was for a considerable time un
der his care without any particular benefit.
From that time until 1844, there was no change
tog the better; and duoiig that year, while in
Baltimore my leg was slightly injured by a rail
road car, which caused the ulcers to rage with
tenfold violence. I applied to a physician, who,’
after exhausting his skill in vain, said “ the un
sound timber must be removed, or he could not
keep the craft much longer afloat!” Not liking
to part with an old shipmate, however trouble
some, l refused to have it taken off; my leg,
however, became so much worse that the ulcers
extended from my foot almost to the knee, laying
bare the bone, so exceedingly sore that I could
not bear even wilted plantain leaves, or the most
simple salve to touch it.
Thus matters stood in October last, when fbr
your gratification I commenced with Dr. Callen’e
Indian Vegetable Panacea, with little faith, I.
confess, for I had used incredible quantities of
Sarsaparilla, and in fact, every other medicine
which I saw advertised, or heard recommended.
Physicians had failed and hope had fled ! Imag
ine, then; my joy, when (after suffering TIFiIN
TY-SIX YEARS,) I found before I finished the
first bottle, that the Panacea bad wrought a de
cided change for the better.
I am now a well man, and have been cured by
your Panacea alone, without the use of any other
medicine or preparation whatever !
Any person desirous of obtaining farther parti
culars can be granted by calling upon me at my
place of business, No. 126 N. Thirteenth street,
or at my residence* No. 484 Race street.

Doctor Cullen’s Indian Vegetable P*m
acta.
‘TO relictf and to cure suffering hiraufty if*
a most important and interesting undertaking.
In a matter of such vast moment, where health,
happiness, and even life itself, are involved, de
ception would be unpardonable.
It gives us great pleasure to speak thus public
ly of the astounding efficacy of the above prepar
ation, of which we have recently been an eye
witness, in the case of Mr. Isaac Brooks, jr., Jef
ferson street, four doors west of Schuylkill Sixth
street, below Locust. This gentleman, for a
long time was severely afflicted with that most
loathsome and unyielding disease, the Scrofula,
so much so that the superior half of his person
was awfully d.sfigared, the ravages of the com
plaint having carried away his nose, palate, and
lip, and filled his throat with ulcers.
This most distressed individual, we are enabled
to say, has been entirely cured of his disease by
the omnipotency of “Dr. Cullen’s Indian Vegeta
ble Panact...” Thi3 is, without doubt, one of
the most wonderful cures of Scrofula ever per
formed on a human being.
We have been induced to notice the matter
before us from motives of sympathy to the afflict
ed—‘for what is wealth, nay, what is life, with
out health ? It there is a “balm in Gilead*” how
important that it should be known !
It is our deliberate judgement that the Panacea
in question, is destined to rise to very great im
portance in the medical w orld. We regard it as
a pleasurable duty to give publicity Jo this moat
invaluable remedy. And who that is suffering
from the health and life-destroying disease refer-’
red to, woui l not wish to make trial ofa medi
cine which premises sc much, and that foo* Opoir
such reasonable terms.
Many other cases in point* in oiir immediate
neighborhood, might be referred to* in attestation
of the w onderful power of this Panacea, in the
cure of Scrofula, mercurial diseases* white swell
ings, tetter, &c., and ail impurities of the blood :
hut it is not necessary. These facts serve to
convince us that the “ Vegetable Panacea” is a
most extraordinary remedy. And we would say, in
good faith, to the people wheresoever scattered,
‘••‘bo may be suffering from any of the complaints
alluded to, by ail means send to Messrs. Row and
