that they have never known a single instance

effect a permanent and lasting cure.

DR. GORDON’S PILLS are truly the sick
man’s friends No Traveller or Family
should be without them. Tiieir timely adminis
tration will prevent much pain and suffering, and
save many vatuablp lives.
These Pills were compounded by Dr. Gordon
ifler years ofstudy and careful observation upon
the nature of different medicines, and the effect
which they produce upon different constitutions
iu various forms of disease. They have been ex
tensively used by some of our mqst eminent
Physicians, and by many private families for sev
eral yedrs ; and such has been the satisfaction
which they have given, that it is firmly believed
that the vegetable kingdom does not furnish any
materials for.a purgative medicine, which sur
passes for general use, those of which these pills
ire composed. They do not contain Calomel,
Mercury or any minerSl preparation; but are
composed entirely of concentrated vegetable
extracts, carefully prepared and so combined as
to be Certain, Safe, and Easy in their operation
—should it bootherwise, the stomach ad bowels
contain foul and acrid bilious mattes---showing
great necessity for purgative medicine.
The Bowels being the principal channel through
which a great portion ofthe impurities ofthe sys
tem are discharged, it is evident that whatever
acts beneficially on them nwust be condfacive to
health.
If a physician is called to a pariertt; vvhatisthe
first thing done 1 He prescribes a dose or two of
purgative medicines; and then, after a day or
two, if the patient is no better, he gives him an
other dose of purgative medicine, and so on 5 do
ing some other little things—but the main reli
ance for a cure is upon the effect produced by
purgative medicines. Therefore ifvou are sick
delay not, but take a few doses of Dr. Gordon’s
Vegetable Family Pills, and be again restored to

WILD CHERRY BITTERS,
For tlxe permanent romoval ot all sueH
diseases as take tlietr rise In an Im

Morbid state si tlxe Liver and
Btemacb, Weokness of the
Nervous System, and a
disordered Habit of
Constitution generally.
Dr. Wood’s Sarsaparilla and JFild Cherry Bit
ters have already, by their substantial excellence,
won a degree of public favor and patronage,
which puts them beyond the need of recommen
dation. Being faithfully prepared of the most
excellent materials, they can be fully confided in
by ail in need of a tonic, aperient or alterative
remedy. Sarsaparilla takes a high rank among
Physicians and all others in the list ol curative
agents, and it is this fact which has rendered it so
deservedly popular over all other medicines of
the day. In Dr. (Food’s standard preparation, it
is warranted to be found in great purity and
strength, and gaining much by its union with the
(Fild Cherry, a tonic of the first order. This
happy combination is the only one ever made of
these article, and founded as it is on the best
medical principles, and their virtues extracted by
a rigid chemical analysis, experience has shown
its unusual power and efficacy.
This preparation will be found on trial, to be O’
sure and speedy remedy for the diseases enumer
ated above. They purify the blood, secure regu
lar digestion, promote a healthy action of the
Liver and Stomach, and strengthen the nerves,
at once securing health & vigor to the whole sys
tem. In all cases of despondency, arising from
Indigestion or Nervous irritation, they have oecn
used with remarkable success ; nor are they less
useful-as a remedy for Headache, Flatulency,
Loss of Appetite, and a general prostration ofthe
system. At the same time, it must’be stated, that
they are neither violent nor at all dangerous in
their operation, securing as they do the desired
end, by a steady, regular and easy influence.—
Taken daily, in doses prescribed, they will be
found to operate in that gentle and salutary
manner, which is, in fact, their highest recom
mendation.
The following certificates, among many others
which have been received from the most respect
able sources, furnish satisfactory proof ofthe
value.and efficacy of this highly popular medi
cine.

Mr. E. Thornton, Jr.
Dear Sir: —This is to certify, that my daughter
has been troubled with Dyspepsia for a number of
years, attended with almost constant headache
and other distressing symptoms which accompa
ny the disease. She visited Boston to avaiijuer
self of the advice of the justly celebrated physi

citation ofa friend, l was induced to purchases

lieved entirely of tire headache, and alter two or
three bottles, the other symptoms entirely disap

New Bedford, August 19, 1844.
Dear Sir, —It is with much pleasure that I add
my testimonial to the many which you have, of
the value of your Sarsaparilla and Wild Cherry
B.itters. I have used them in my family with the
happiest result—l have recommended them to
others, who have used them with equal success.
In one case in particular, of DYSPEPSIA oflong
standing attended with severe Head Ache, which
had resisted all treatment, I was ENTIRELY
CURED by the use of these bitters. I shall al
ways take great pleasure in recommending them
to all persons suffering from any of the diseases
arising from Indigestion, Dyspepsia, and impuri
ties of the blood.
G MACOMBER.
New Bedford, Aug. 10, 1844.
Dear Sir, —I find Dr. Wood’s Sarsaparilla and
Wild Cherry Bitters all that you recommended
them to be, and take great pleasure in saying,
that I think them the best preparation ofthe
kind ever offered to the public. I have been
troubled for a long time with JAUNDICE, and a
derangement of the'Storaach, attended with head
ache and Vertigo, which was so bad at times that
I could not see, and think that I am entirely cur
ed by the use of these Bitters. I have used them
in my family, and would recommend them to
every one suffering from Jaundice, Indigestion,
and Head Ache. Signed,
JOHN BAYLIES,
From the New-Bedford Register.
Dr. Wood’s Sarsaparilla A Wild Clxer

The respectability of gentlemen in this town
and vicinity, who testify to the- benefits, within
their personal knowledge, derived from the use
of this Compound of Sarsaparilla and Wild Cher
ry, is such as to put to rest all doubts as to the
value of these extracts to those suffering from
Dyspepsia, Jaundice, Indigestion, Headache, or
Scrofulous diseases. When a medicine has been
known to effect cures in certain cases, no recom
mendation is needed, other than a simple state
ment of facts. To those, then, who are liable to
any complaints for w T hich the Sarsaparilla and
Wild Cherry Bitters are advertised as a remedy we
would say, do as others have done, and find re

Millerstown, Perry county, Pa.
Dr. Swayne—-Dear Sir.—ln March last I
caught a very heavy cold which settled on my
lungs, attended with a hard, dry cough, pains in
the side and breast, tightness and oppression in
the chest. I neglected taking any medicine, ex
cept the usual simple remedies, which persons
in indigent circumstances like myself generally
resort to, when I became quite alarmed and ap
plied to my family physician. He treated me
several months, but I received- no benefit; in
fact I gradually grew worse. I had profuse
night sweats, skin dry and parched no appetite,
suffered much with thirst, occasionally spitting
blood, until my physician, as well as my friends,
pronounced me going into a deep decline.-
Some of my friends recommended one medioine,
some another, and would show me long certifi
cates of purported cures, many of which 1 thought
suited to my case exactly, but from their effect
upon me I despaired ever recovering my health,
hut gave myself up to die of that scourge of the

the name of Martin Lutz, your agent in Harris

the use ofyour celebrated preparation, the Com

Deafness cued! !—scarpa’s compound
ACOUSTIC OIL, for the cure of Deafness,
Pains, and the discharge of matter from the Ears.
Also all those disagreeable noises, like the buz
zing of insects falling of water, whizzing of steam,
&c. &c., which are symptoms of approaching
Deofness, and also generally attendant with the
disease. Many persons who have been deaf for
ten, fifteen, and twenty years, and were obliged
to use ear-trumpets, have, ofter using one or two
bottles, thrown asido their trumpets, being made
perfectly well. Physicians and surgeons highly
recommanding its use.
Read the following from the Philadelphia.—
Public Ledger.
“Have you ever tried itl —lf not, do not delay
another day, but send immediately; if you have
been one of the wise and prudent, and already
brought a bottle, the question is settled; you
have recorded your hearing. Scarpa. , s Oil for
Deafness never fails. It is the only medicine that
will cure. Thousands of deaf persons will give
their testimony in its fauor. The beauty of the
thing is that it cures you without producing any
pain.”
The Editor of the Philadelphia Forum thus
speaks of the medicine.
“ Valuable Article. —Scarpa’s Acoustic Oil is
said by those who have had occasion to use it, to
bp an excellent medicine in cases of deafness
arising from colds or other causes. We know
a young lady who not long since wis almost im
mediately relieved by it, and the certificate of
Mr. Daniel Graeff is an unanswerable testimony
of its efficacy.”
And again from the Editor of the Morning
Chronicle:
“Important for the Deaf.—Wc commend to
the particular attention of those desirous of hav
ing their hearing restored, Scarpa's Oil for
Deafness. We hear it highly spoken of by
those who have used it, and of course known its
value.”
Here is something worth attending to, coming,
as it does, from a man so extensively known as is
Mr. Graeff, both in the city and country:
“I hereby certify, that from the effects of a
severe cold last winter, I became partially deaf,
attended with very disagreeable noises, like
ringing ofbells, fcc., which gradually increased,
until I completely lost the hearing of one ear—
when I was induced to use Scarpa’s Acous
tic Oil, and am now happy to say, that with
the use of one bottle of the above medicine, I
can hear as yvell as ever, and all disagreeable
noises have entirely disappeared. Any further
information respectiag my case, will be gladly
given, by calling on me at 45j- North Fifth street,
near Race..

MEDICINES.
“There is yet a Balm in Gilead.”
DOCT* HOUSEMAN’S
GERMAN COUGH DROPS.
THESE drops have fffoved, in all cases, the
most effectual remedy for Golds, Coughe,
Asthmas, Raising of Blood, aiid all affections of
the Breast and Lungs, leading to a consumption,
that ever come before the public ; they have al
so been used in severe cases of Cholics, Cramps,
Influenzas. Whooping Coughs. Croups and Worms,
with most wonderful success ; it also opens the
excretory vessels, which prevents a variety of
complaints. They have been proved a Healing
Balm and genuine Restorative in all the above
complaints, and there is reason to believe they
have snatched many suffering fellow creatures
from an untimely grave; as they have made
cures on subjects thought past recovery. A sin
gle bottle will be sufficient to satisfy any person
that it is a valuable medicine, and not surpassed
by any other now in use ; ami many times, if
takdn in common colds, it might save heavy bills
for medical attendance, aud severe turns ofsick
ness, if not death.

MEDICINES.
MCALLISTER’S.
ALLIIEALINO OINTMENT.
preceding figHfe is gireil tt* represent
JL the Insensible Perspiration*. It is the great
evacuation for the impurities of the body. It
will be noticed that a thick cloudy mist issues
from all points of the surface, which indicates
that this perspiration flows uninterruptedly when
we are in health, but ceases when we are sick.
Life cannot be sustained without it. !t is thrown
off from the blood and other juices of the body,
and disposes by this means, of nearly all the im
purities within ns. The language of Scripture is,
Pin the Mood is the life.” If it ever becomes im
pure, it may be traced directly to the Stoppage
of the insensible perspiration. Thus we see, all
that is necessary when the blood is stagnant, or
infected, is to open the pores, and it relieves
itself from all impurity instintly . its own heat
and vitality are sufficient, without one particle
ofthedicine, except to open the pores upon the
surface. Thus we see the folly oftaking so many
internal remedies. All practitioners, however,
direct their efforts to restore* the Insensible
Perspiration, The Thompsonian, for instance,
steams ,’ the Hydropathist shrouds us in wet blan
kets, the HomOpathist deals out infinitissimals,
the Allopathist bleeds and doses us with mercury
and the blustering Quack gorges iis With pills,
pills, pills.
To give some idea, of the amount of the In
sensible Perspiration, we will sthte that the lear
ned Dr. Lewenhock, ascertained that five-eights
of all we receive in the stomach j passed off by
this means. In other words, if we eat and drink
eight pounds per day, we evacuate five pounds
of it by the Insensible Perspiration.
This is noiie other than the used up particles
of the blood, and other juices giving place
to the new and fresh ones. To check this, there
fore, is to retain in the system five-eights of all
the virulent matter that nature demands should
leave the body,
By a sudden transition from heat to cold, the
pores, are stopped, the perspiration ceases, and
disease begins at once to develope itself. —
Hence, a stoppage of this flow of the juices, or
iginates so many complaints. Nine tenths ofthe
world die from disease induced by a stoppage of
the Insensible Perspiration.’
Let me ask, now, every candid mind, what
course seems the most reasonable to pursue,
to unstop the pores, after they are closed.—
Would you give physic to unstop the pores? Or
would you apply something that would do this
upon the snrface, where the clogging actually is?
And yet I know of no physician Who makes any
external application to effect it. Under these
circumstances, I present to physicians, and to
all others, McAllisters, All Healing Ointment
or the World's Salve . It has power to restore
perspiration on the feet, dn the head, around
old sores, upon the Chest, in short- Upon any part
of the body, whether diseased slightly or severe
ly. It has power to cause all external sores,
scrofulous humors, skin diseases, poisonous
wounds, to discharge their-putrid matter, and
then heals them. It is a remedy that sweeps off
the whole catalogue of cutaneous disorders, and
restores the entire cuticle to its healthy functions.
It is a remedy that forbids the necessity of so
many and deleterious drugs taken into the stom
ach. I have used it for the last fourteen years
for all diseases of the chest, consumption, liver,
involving the utmost danger and responsibility,
and I declare before Heaven and man, that not
in one single case has it failed to benefit, when
the patient was within the reach of mortal means.
I have had physicians, learned in the profes
sion, I have had ministers of the Gospel, Judges
on the bench, Aldermen and Lawyers, gentle
men of the highest erudition and multitudes of
the poor, use it in every variety of way, and there
has been but one voice-—one united and univer
sal voice—saying “McAlister, your Oointmentis
good.
Headache Tho Salve has cured per
sons of the Headache of 10 years standing, and
who had it regularly every week, so that vomit
ing often took place.
Deafness and Ear Ache are helped with like
success.
Hold Feet. It is a sure sign of disease in
the system to have cold feet. The Salve will
cure every case.
In Scrofula, Erysipelas, salt Rheum, Liver
complaint Sore Eyes,, Quinsy, Sore Throat,
Bronchitis, Broken or Sore Breast, Piles, all
Chest Diseases, such as Asthma, Oppression,
Pain, also Sore Lips, Chapped Hands, Tumours,
Cutaneous Eruptions, Nervous Diseases, and of
the Spine there i3 probably no medicine now
known so good.
Burns* It is the best thing in shc world
for Burns, (Read the Directions around the

PIMPLES ON THE FACE MASCULINE SKIN
GROSS SURFACE.
Its first action is to expel all humor. It will
not cease drawing till the face is free from any
matter that may be lodged under the skin, and
frequently breaking out to the surface. It then
heals. When there is nothing but grossness, or
dull repulsive surface, it, begins to soften and
soften until the skin becomes as smooth and del
icate as a child’s.
Worms. If parents knew how fata! most
medicines were to children taken inwardly, they
would be slow to resort to them. Especially
,‘mercurial lozenges” called ‘‘medicated lozen
ges,” “vermifuges” pills, &c. The truth is, no
one can tell, invariably when worms are present.
Now let me say to parents that this Salve will
always tell if a child has worms; It will drive
every vestage of them away. (Read the direc
tions aronnd the box.)
Old S‘>res. That some sores are an outlet
to impurities of the system is, because they can
not pass off through the natural channels of the
Insensible Perspiration. Ifsuch sores are healed
up the impurities must have some other outlet,
or it will endanger life. This salve will always
provide for such emergencies.
I<lieilinatf.sm. It removes almost im
mediately the inilamation an'd swelling, when the
pain, of course ceases.
Coro'S. Occasional tire of the Ointment

need never be troubled with them if they will
use it.

value. So loßg as thestars roll along Over the
Heavens—so long as man treads the earth, sub
ject to all infiainities of the flesh—so long as dis
eases and sickness is known—just co long will
this good Ointment be used and esteemed.—

INDIAN VEGETABLE PANACEA.
READ THE FOLLOWING CERTIFI
CATE.
]\ JESSES. ROWAND k WALTON—Grntlrmri):
T* A As veu succeeded in effecting a cure upon
me with your “DR, CULLEN'S INDIAN \ liG-
F.TABLE PANACEA,” after the most eminent
physicians in Cuba, New York, Baltimore, and
Philadelphia, aud all the most popular advertised
medicines of the day Lad failed, you are fuily en
titled to all the benefit which the following state
ment of fhets can confer.
In the year 1819, while at sea on the brig
Commodore Perry, ofthis port m> leg was injur
ed by the anchor. The wound became scrofulous
—was highly inflamed and painful, particularly in
spring and summer. From the time of the acci
dent, I was under the treatment ofthe most celc?
brated phyr'eians in the Island of Cuba, and this*
city, until 1824. Tin summer of that year I
spent in the country to make a fair trial ofSwain’a
Panacea; but even that popular medicine failed
to produce any decided improvement. In 1830 I
applied to the most eminent surgeon in New
York city, and T v.as for a considerable time un
der his care without any particular benefit.
From that time untiflS44, there was no change
for the better; and during that year, while in
Baltimore my leg was slightly injured by a rail
road car, which caused the ulcers to rage with
tenfold violencd. I appiieu to a physician, who,
after eshatisting his skill in vain, said the un
sound timber must be removed, or he could not
keep the craft much longer afloat!” Not liking
to part with an old shipmate, however trouble
some, I refused to have it taken off; my leg,
however, became so much worse that the ulcers
extended from my foot almost to the knee, laying
bare the bone, so exceedingly sore that I could
not boar even wilted plantain leaves, or the most
simple salve to touch iti
Thus matters stood in October last, when for
your gratification 1 commenced with Dr. Culleu’s
Indian Vegetable Panacea; with little faith, L
confess, fdr I had used incredible quantities of
Sarsaparilla, and in fact, every other medicine
which I saw advertised, or beard recommended.
Physicians had failed and hope had fled 1 Imag
ine, then, my joy, when (after suffering TIFEN
TY-SIX YEARS,) I found before I finished the
first bottle, that the Panacea had wrought a de
cided change Ibr thfe bfetter.
I am row a well man, and have been cured by,
your Panacea alone, without the use of any other
medicine or preparation whatever 1

lt.gives us great pleasure to speak thus public
ly of the astounding efficacy ofthe above prepar
ation; of which we have recently been an eye
witness, in the case of Mr. Isaac Brooks, jr., Jef
ferson street, four doors west of Schuylkill Sixth
street, below Locust. This gentleman, for a
long time was severely afflicted with that most
loathsome and unyielding disease, the Scrofula,
so much so that the superior half of his person
was awfully disfigured, the ravages of the com
plaint having carried away his nose, palate, and’
lip, and filled his thrbr.t with ulcere.
This most distressed individual, we are enabled
to say, has been entirely cured of his disease by
the omn ipotency of “Dr. Cullen’s Indian Vegeta
ble Panacea.” This is, without doubt, one of
the most wonderful Cures Os Scrofula ever per
formed on a human being.
We have been induced to notice the matter
before us from motives of sympathy to the afflict
ed—for what is wealth, nay, what is life, with
out health ? If there is a “halm in Gilead,” how
important that it should be known !
It is our deliberate the Panacea
in question, is destined to rise to very great im
portance in the medical world. We regard it as
a pleasurable duty to give publicity to this most
invaluable remedy. And who that is suffering
from the health and life-destroying disease refer

Many othfer cases in point, ih our immediate

of the wonderfbl power of this Panacea, in tb
cure of Scrofula, inercunal diseases, white swell
