man’s friend. No Traveller or Family
should be without them. Their timely adminis
tration will prevent much pain and suffering, and
save many valuable lives.
These Pills were compounded by Dr. Gordon
after years of study and careful observation upon
the nature of different medicines, and the effect
which they produce upon different constitutions
in various forms of disease. They have been ex*:
tensively used by some of our most eminent
Physicians, and by many private families for sev
eral years; and such has been the satisfaction
which they have given, that it is firmly believed
that the vegetable kingdom does not furnish any
materials for a purgative medicine, which sur
passes for general use, those of which these pills
are composed. They do not contain Calomel,
Mercury or any mineral preparation ; but are
composed entirely of concentrated vegetable
extracts, carefully prepared and so combined as
to be Certain, Safe, and Easy in their Operation
—should it be otherwise, the stomach and bowels
contain foul and acrid hilfotts matter—showing
great necessity for purgative medicine.
The Bowels being the principal rough
which a great portion of the impurities of the sys
tem are discharged, it is evident that whatever
acts beneficially on them must be conducive to
health.
If a physician is called to a patient, what is the
first thing done ? He prescribes a dose or two of
piirgative medicines; and then, after a-day or
two, if the patient is no better, he gives him an
other dose of purgative medicine, and so on ; do
ing some other little things—but the main reli
ance for a cure is upon the effect produced by
purgative medicines. Therefore if you are sick
delay not. but take a few doses of Dr. Gordon’s
Vegetable Family Pills, and be again restored to
health. For sale by

Dr: Wood’s Sarsdpdfilld rind ‘Wild Cherry Bit
ters have already, by their substantial excellence,
won a degree of public favor and patronage,
which puts them beyond the need of recommen
dation. Being faithfully prepared of the most
excellent materials, they can be fully confided in
by all in need of a tonic, aperient or alterative
remedy. Sarsapafill* takes a high rank among
Physicians and all others in the list df fctirdtive
agents, and it is this fact which has rendered it so
deservedly popular over all other medicines of
the day. In Dr. ITood’s standard preparation, it
is warranted to be found in great purity and
strength, and gaining much by its union with the
Wild Cherry 1 a tonic of the first order. This
happy combination is the only one ever made of
these article, and founded as it is on the best
medical principles, and their virtues extracted by
a rigid chemical analysis, experience has shown
its unusual power and efficacy.
This preparation will be found on trial, to be a
sure and speedy remedy for the diseases enumer
ated above. They purify the blood, secure regu
lar digestion, promote a healthy action of the
Liver and Stomach, and strengthen the nerves,
at once securing health & vigor to the whole sys
tem. In all cases of despondency, arising from
Indigestion or Nervous irritation, they have been
used with remarkable success ; nor are they less
useful as a remedy for Headache, Flatulency,
lobs of Appetite, and a general prostration of the
system. At the same time, it must be stated, that
they are neither violent nor at all dangerous in
their operation, securing as they do the desired
end, by a steady, regular and easy influence.—
Taken daily, in doses prescribed, they will be
found to operate in that gentle and salutary
manner, which iri, in fact, their highest recom

The following certificates, among many others
which have been received from the most respect

Da. Swayne—Dear Sir.—ln March last I
caught a very heavy coty which settled on my
lungs, attended with a hard, dry Cough, pains in
the side and breast, tightness and oppression in
the chest. I neglected taking any medicine, ex
cept the usual simple remedies, which persons
in indigent circumstances like myself generally
resort to, when I became quite alarmed and ap
plied to my family physician. He treated me
several months, but I received no benefit; in
fact I gradually grew worse. I had profuse
night sweats, skin dry and parched no appetite,
suffered much with thirst, occasionally spitting
blood, until my physician, as wdll as my friends,
pronounced me going into a deep decline.—
Some of my friends recommended one medioine,
some another, and would show me long certifi

suited to my case exactly, but from their effect
upon me I despaired ever recovering my health,
but gave myself up to die of that scourge of the

“Have you ever tried itl —lf not, do not delay

speaks of the medicine.
( ‘Valuable Article. —Searpa’s Acoustic Oil is

‘arising from colds or other causes. We know

Here is something worth attending to, coming,
:as it does, from a man so extensively known as is
Mr. Crraeff,- both in the city and country:
“I hereby certify; that from the effects of a

attended with very disagreeable rioisfies; like

until I completely lost tbe hearing Os one ear—
when I was induced to use Scarpa’s Acous

cvdciiati'dh fb'r thd ’impurities of the body. It
wiJl be noticed that a thick cloudy mist issues
from all pmnts of the surface, which indicates
that thiepbrspiration flows uninterruptedly when
we are in health, but ceases when we are sick.
Life cannot be sustained without it. It is thrown
Off from the blood and other juices ot the body,
and disposes by this means, of nearly all the im
purities within ns. The language of Scripture is,
f‘in the blood is the life.” If it ever becomes im
pure, it may be traced directly to toe stoppage
of the insensibWperspiratioit. Thus we see, all
that iff fidfce’Ssary when the blood is stagnant; or
infected, is to open the pores, and it relieves
itself from all impurity instantly. Its own heat
and vitality are sufficient, without one particle
ofmedicine, except to open the pores upon the
surface. Thus we see the fblly oftaking so many
internal remedies. All practitioners; however;
direct their efforts td restore* the Insensible
Perspiration. The Thdifipsonian; for instance,
Steams, the Hydropathist shrouds us in wet blan
kets, the Homopathist deals out infinitesimals,
the Allopathist bleeds and doses us with mercury
and the blustering Quack gorges us with pills,
jftlls, pillS;
To give some idea, of the amount of the In
sensible Perspiration, we will state that the lear
ned Dr. Lewenhock, ascertained that five-eights
of all we receive in the stomach, passed off by
this means. In other words, if we eat and drink
eight pounds per ddy; wd evacuate five pounds
ofit by the Insensible Perspiration.
This is none other than the used up particles
of the blood, and other juices giving place
to the new and fresh ones. To check this, there
fore, is to retaifi in the system five-eights of all
the virulent matter that nature demands should
leave the body.
By a sudden transition from heat to cold, the
pores; are stopped; the perspiration ceases, and
disease begins at once to develops itself.—
Hence, a stoppage of this flow of the juices, or
iginates so many complaints. Nine tenths ofthe
world die from disease induced by a stoppage of
the Insensible Perspiration.
Let me ask, now/every candid mind, what
course seems the most reasonable to pursue,
to unstop the pores, after they are closed.—
Would you give physic to unstop the pores? Or
would you apply something that would do this
upon the snrface, where the clogging actually is?
; And yet I know of no. physician who makes any
external application to effect it: Under these
circumstances, I present to physicians, and to
all others, McAllisters, All Healing Ointment
or the World's Salve, It has power to restore
perspirdtiefrt on the feet, on the head; around
old sores, upon the fchest, in short- upon any part
of the body, whether diseased slightly or severe
ly. It ha'S power to cause all external sores,
scrofulous hum Ors; skin diseases, poisonous
wounds/ to discharge their putrid matter, and
then heals them; It is a remedy that sweeps off
the whole oataldgde of cutaneous disorders, and
restores the entire cuticle to its healthy ftrnetions;
It is a remedy that forbids the necessity of so
many and deleterious drugs taken into the stom
ach. I have used it for the last fourteen years
for all diseases of the chest, consumption, Jiver,
involving the utmost danger ttttd responsibility;
and I declare before Heaven and man, that not
in one single case has it failed to benefit, when
the patient was within the reach of mortal means.
I have had physicians, learned in the profes
sion, I have had ministers of the Gospel, Judges
on the bench. Aldermen and Lawyers, gentle
men of the highest erudition and multitudes of
the poor, use it in every variety of way, and there
has been but one voice—one united and univer
sal voice—-saying “McAlister, your Opintment is
good.
Headache The Salve has cured per
sons of the Headache of 10 years standing, and
who had it regdlarly every week, so that vomit
ing often took place; ,
Deafness and Ear Ache are helped with like
success.
Cold Feet. It is a sure sign of disease in
the system to have cold feet. The Sa'fVC will

PIMPLES ON THE FACE MASCULINE SKIN
GROSS SURFACE.
Its first action is to expel all humor. It will
not cease drawing till the face is free from any
matter that may be lodged under the skin, and
frequently breaking out to the surface. It then
heals, When there is nothing but grossness, dr
dull repulsive surface, it begins to soften and
soften until the skin becomes as smooth and del
icate as a child’s.
Worms. If parents knew how fatal most
medicines were to children taken inwardly, they
would be slow to resort Mr them. Especially
,‘mercurial lozenges” called {‘medicated lozen
gefl,” “vermifuges” pills, &c. The truth is, no
one can tell, invariably when worms are present.
Now let me say to parents that this Salve will
always tell if u child has worms. It will drive
every vestage of them away. (Read the direc
tions around the box.)
Old SOres. That some sores are an ouflet
to impurities of the system is, because they can
not pass off through the riattfral channels of the
Insensible Perspiration. If such sores are healed
up the impurities must have some other outlet,
or it will endanger life. This salve will always
provide for such emergencies.
Rheumatism. It removes almost im
mediately the inflamation and swelling, when the
pain of course ceases.
€/OrnS. Occasional use of the Ointment
will always keep corns from growing. People
need never be troubled with them if they will
use it.
Asa family medicine, no man can measure its
value. So long as thestars roll along over the
Heavens—so long as man treads the earth; Sub
ject to all inflamitieS’ Os the flesh—-so loiig as dis
eases and sickness is known—just so long will
this good Ointment be used and esteemed.—

ESSRS. BOWMD k WALTON—Gentlrmrn:
-V-% As you succeeded in effecting a cure upon
me with f>fVr “BftJ CULLEN’S INDIAN VEG
ETABLE PANACEA,” after the md* eminent
physicians in Cuba, Now York, Baltittibie, am}
Philadelphia, and all the most pqpularauvettised
medicines of the day had fa,led, you are fully en
tilitd tP ill the benefit which the following state
ment of facts can confer.
In
of this port my leg was injur
ed by’myhor. The wound became scrofulous
—was highly inflamed and painful, particularly in
spring and summer. From the time of the acci
dent, I was under the treatment ofthe most cele
brated physicians in the Island of Cube, and this
city, until ISM| The summer of that year I
spent in the to make a fair trial of Swain's
Panacea; but even that popular medicine failed
to produce any decided improvement. In 1880 t
nnplied to the most eminent surgeon in New
i ork city, and I Was for a considerable time un
d'.his care without any particular benefit.
From that time until 1844, there was no change
for the better; and during that year, while In
Baltimore my leg was slightly injured by a rail
road car, which caused the ulcers to rage with
tenfold violence. I applied to a physician, who,
afttif f-iiliaustihg fits skill in vain, said “ the uD
sound timber mn c t be removed, or he could not
keep the craft much longer afloat?” Not liking
to part with an old shipmate, however trouble*
some, I refused to have it taken off; mv leg;
however, became so much worse that the ulcer*
extended from ray foot aim oat to the anee, laving
bare the bone, so exceedingly sore that I could
not bear even wilted plantain leaves, or the most
simple salve to touch it.
I has matters stood in October last, when ?*or
your gratification I commenced with Dr. Cullen’s
Indian Vegetable Panacea, with little faith. I.
confess, for I had ftsed incredible quantities of
Sarsaparilla, and in fact, every other medicine
which I §a\y advertised, or heard recommended.
Physicians had failed and hope had fled 1 Imag
ine, then, my joy, when (after suffering T IFJtN-
I*Y-SIX YEARS,) I found before I finished Tfiei
nrst bottle; that the Panacea had wrought a de
cided change for better.
I am now a well man, ard have been cured by
your Panacea alone, without the Use of any other
medicine or preparation whatever!

TO relieve itud to cure snfferiog humanity is
a most important and interesting undertaking;
In a matter of such vast moment, where health,
happiness, and even life itself, are involved, de
ception would be unpardonable.
It gives us great pleasure to speak thus public
ly of the astounding efficacy ofthe above nrepar-
Rtion; of which wc Ifflg recently bee:, an eye
witness*™ the case of Mr. Isaac Brooks, jr., Jef
ferson street, four doors west of Schuylkill Sixth
street, below Locust. This gentleman, for a
long time was severely afflicted with that most
loathsome and unyielding disease, the Scrofula,
so much so .that the superior half of his person
was awfully disfigured, the ravages of the com
plaint having carried aWay his nose, palate, and
lip, and filled his throat with ulcers.
This most distressed individual, we arc enabled
to say, has be in entirely cured of his disease by
the omnipotcncy of “Dr. Cullen’s Indian Vegeta
ble Panacea.” This is, without doubt, one of
the most wonderful cures of Scrofula ever per
formed on a hunisrt being:
We have been induced to notice the matter
before us from motives of sympathy to the afflict
ed —for what is wealth, nay,.what is life, with
out health ? If there is a “'balm inGilead,” how
important that it should be known 1
Itisour deliberate judgement that the Panacea
in question, is destined to rise to very crcat im
portance in the medical world. We regard it a
a pleasurable duty to give publicity to this most
invaluable remedy. And who that is suffering
from the health and life-defctroying disease refer
red To, would not wish to make trial of a medi
cine which promises so much, and that too, upon!
such reasonable terms.
Many other cases in point, in our immediate
neighborhood, might be referred to, in attestation
ol the wonderftll power of this Panacea, in tho
cure of Scrofula, mercurial disease's; white swell
ings, tetter, &c., and all impurities ofthe blood :
but it is not necessary. These facts serve to
convince us that the “Vegetable Panacea” is a
most extraordinary remedy. And we would say, in
good faith; to the people wheresoever scattered,
who may be suffering f?om any ofthe complaint*
alluded to, by,a|l means send to Messrs. Rowand
