mation of the Brain, Stomach, Lungs, Liver,

DR. GORDON’S PILLS are truly the sick
man’s friend. No Traveller or Family
should be without them. Their timely adminis
tration will prevent much pain and suffering, and
save many valuable lives.
These Piils were compounded by Dr. Gordon
after years of study and careful observation upon
the nature of different medicines, and the effect
which they produce upon different constitutions
in various forms of disease. They halve been ex
tensively used by some of our most eminent
Physicians, and by many private families for sev
eral years ; and such has been the satisfaction
which they have given, that it is firmly believed
that the vegetable kingdom does not furnish any
materials for a purgative medicine, which sur
passes for general use, those of which these pills
are composed. They do not contain Calomel,
Mercury or any mineral preparation ; but are
composed entirely of. concentrated vegetable
extracts, carefully prepared and so combined as
to be Certain, Safe, and Easy in their operation
—should it be otherwise, the stomach and bowels
contain foul and acrid bilious matter—showing
great necessity for purgative medicine.
The Bowels being the principal channel t'i rough
which a great portion of the impurities of the sys
tem are discharged, it is evident that whatever
acts beneficially on them must be conducive to
health.
If a physician’ is called to a patient, what is the
first thing done ? He prescribes a dose or two of
purgative medicines; and then, after a day or
two, if the patient is no better, he gives him an
other dose of purgative medicine, and so'on ; do
ing some other little things—but the main reli
ance for a cure is upon the effect produced by
purgative medicines. Therefore ifyou are sick
delay not, but take a few doses of Dr. Gordon’s
Vegetable’ Family Pills, and’ be again restored to
health. For sale by

MEDIC I N E S.
DR. WOOD’S SARSAPARILLA,
and
WILD CHERRY BITTERS,
For the permanent removal of all inch
diseases as take their rise In an Im
pure Blood, Impaired Digestion,
Morbid state of the Liver and
Stomach, Weokness of the
Nervous System, and a
disordered Habit of
Constitution generally.
Dr. Wood’s Sarsaparilla and IFild Cherry Bit
ters have already, by their substantial excellence,
won a degree of public favor and patronage,
which puts them beyond the need of recommen
dation. Being faithfully prepared of the most
excellent materials, they can be fully confided in
by all in need of a tonic, aperient or alterative
remedy. Sarsaparilla takes a high rank among
Physicians and all others in the list of curative
agents, and it is this fact which has rendered it so
deservedly popular over all other medicines of
the day. In Dr. IFood’s standard preparation, it
is warranted to be found in great purity and
strength, and gaining much by its union with the
Wild Cherry, a tonic of the first order. This
happy combination is the only one ever made of
these article, and founded it is on the best
medical principles, and their virtues extracted by
a rigid chemical analysis, experience has shown
its unusual power and efficacy.
This preparation will be found on trial, to be a
sure and speedy remedy for the diseases enumer
ated above. They purify the blood, secure regu
lar digestion, promote a healthy action of the
Liver and Stomach, and strengthen the nerves,
at once securing health & vigor to the whole sys
tem. In all cases of despondency, arising from
Indigestion or Nervous irritation, they have been
used with remarkable success ; nor are they less
useful as a remedy for Headache, Flatulency,
Loss of Appetite, and a general prostration of the
system. At the same time, it must be stated, that
they arc neither violent nor at all dangerous in
their operation, securing as they do the desired
end, by a steady, regular and easy influence.—
Taken daily, in doses prescribed, they will be
found to operate in that gentle and salutary
manner, which is, in fact, their highest recom
mendation. *
The following certificates, among many others
which have been received from the most respect
able sources, furnish satisfactory proof of the
value and efficacy of this highly popular medi
cine.
Sandwich, Sept. 4,1844.
Mr. E. Thornton, Jr.
Dear Sir:—This is to certify, that my daughter
has been troubled with Dyspepsia for a number of
years, attended with almost constant headache
and other distressing symptoms which accompa
ny the disease. She visited Boston to avail.her
self of the advice of the justly celebrated physi
cians of that city, all to no purpose. By the soli
citation of a friend, I was induced to purchase a
bottle of Dr. Wood’s Sarsaparilla and Wild Cher
ry Bitters. Before taking one bottle she was re
lieved entirely of the headache, and after two or
three bottles, the other symptoms entirely disap
peared. N B GIBBS.
New Bedford, August 19, 1844.
Dear Sir, —It is with much pleasure that I add
my testimonial to the many which you have, of
the value of your Sarsaparilla and Wild Cherry
Bitters. I have used them in my family with the
happiest result—l have recommended them to
others, who have used them with equal success.
In one case in particular, of DYSPEPSIA of long
standing attended with severe Head Ache, which
had resisted all treatment, I was ENTIRELY
CURED by the use of these bitters. 1 shall al
ways take great pleasure in recommending them
to all persona suffering from any of the diseases
arising from Indigestion, Dyspepsia, and impuri
ties of the blood.
G MACOMBER.
New Bedford, Aug. 10, 1844.
Dear Sir, —I find Dr. Wood’s Sarsaparilla and
Wild Cherry Bitters all that you recommended
them to be, and take great pleasure in saying,
that I think them the best preparation of the.
kind ever offered to the public. I have been
troubled for a long time with JAUNDICE, and a
derangement of the Stomach, attended with head
ache and Vertigo, which was so bad at times that
I could not see, and think that I am entirely cur
ed by the’ uwe’ of these Bitters. I have used them
in my family, and would recommend them to
every one suffering from Jaundice, Indigestion,
and Head Ache. Signed,
JOHN BAYLIES.
From the New-Bedford Register.
Dr. Woott’s Sarsaparilla 4k Wild Cher
ry Bitters.
The respectability of gentlemen in this town
and vicinity, who testify to the benefits, within
their personal knowledge, derived from the use
of this Compound of Sarsaparilla and Wild Cher
ry, is such as to put to rest all doubts as to the
value of these extracts to those suffering from
Dyspepsia, Jaundice, Indigestion, Headache, or
Scrofulous diseases. When a medicine has been
known to effect cures in certain cases, no recom
mendation is needed, other than a simple state
ment of facts.- To those, then, who are liable to
any complaints for which the Sarsaparilla and
Wild Cherry Bitters are advertised as a remedy we
would say, do as others have done, and find re
lief in the way pointed out by the proprietor of
this highly popular compound.

Millerstown, Perry county, Pa.
Dr. Swathe—Dear Sir.—ln March last I
caught a very heavy cold which settled on my
lungs, attended with a hard, dry cough, pains in
the side and breast, tightness and oppression in
the chest. I neglected taking any medicine, ex
cept the usual simple remedies, which persons
in indigent circumstances like myself generally
resort to, when I became quite alarmed and ap
plied to my family physician. He treated me
several months, but I received no benefit; in
fact I gradually grew worse. I had profuse
night sweats, skin dry and parched no appetite,
suffered much with thirst, occasionally spitting
blood, until my physician, as well as my friends,
pronounced me going into a deep decline.—
Some of my friends recommended one medioine,
some another, and would show me long certifi
cates of purported cures, many of which I thought
suited to my case exactly, but from their effect
upon me I despaired ever recovering my health,
but gave myself up to die of that scourge of the
land

Also all those disagreeable noises, like the buz
zing of insects falling of water, whizzing of steam,
&c. &c., which are symptoms of approaching
Deofness, and also generally attendant with the
disease. Many persons who have been deaf for
ten, fifteen, and twenty years, and were obliged
to use ear-trumpets, have, ofter using one or two
bottles, thrown aside their trumpets, being made
perfectly well. Physicians and surgeons highly
recommanding its use.
Read tha following from the Philadelphia.—

“Have you ever tried itl —lf not, do not delay

been one of the wise and prudent, and already

thing is that it cures you without producing any

speaks of the medicine.
“Valuable Article. —Scarpa’s Acoustic Oil is

<be an excellent medicine in cases of deafness
arising- from colds or other causes. We know

“Important for the Deaf. —We commend to
the particular attention of those desirous of hav

Here is something worth attending to,-coming,
as it does, from a man so extensively known as is
Mr. Graeff, both in the city and country:
“5 hereby certify, that from the effects Os a

GERMAN COUGH DROPS.
THESE drops have proved, ill all eases/ the
most effectual remedy for Colds, Coughe ,
Asthmas, Raising of Blood, and all affections of
the Breast and Lungs , leading to a consumption,
that ever come before the public ; they have al
so been used in severe cases of Cholics, Cramps,
Influenzas. Whooping Coughs. Crdups'and Worms ,
with most wonderful success ; it also opens the
excretory vessels, which prevents a variety of
complaints. They have been proved a Healing
Balm and genuine Restorative in all the above
complaints, and there is reason to believe they
have snatched many suffering fellow creatures
from an untimely grave; as they have made
cures on subjects thought past recovery. A sin
gle bottle will be sufficient to satisfy attfy person
that it is a valuable medicine, and not surpassed
by any other now in use ; and many times,- if
taken in common colds, it might save heavy bills
for medical attendance, and severe turns of sick
ness, if not death.

MEDICINES.
McALLISTER’S. =
ALLHEALING OINTMENT.
THE preceding figure is given to
the Insensible Perspiration. It is the great
evacuation for the impurities of the body. It
will be noticed that a thick Clottdy mist issues
from all points of the surface, which indicates
that this perspiration flows uninterruptedly when
we are in health, but ceases when we are sick.
Life cannot be sustained without it. It is thrown
off from the blood and other juices Cl the body,’
and disposes by this means, of neafrly all the im
purities within ns. The language of Scripture is;
Hin the blood is the life.” If it ever becomes im
pure'; it may be traced directly to the stoppage
of the inserifiblt pettpiration. Thus we fee, all
that is necessary when the blood is stagnant; hr
infected, is to open the pores, and it relieves
itself from all impurity instantly. Its own heat
and vitality are sufficient, without one particle
ofrtfedicine, except ttfopeU the pores upon the
BtftfirCe’.- Thus we tffce thfc felly oftaking so many
internal remedies. All practitioners, however,
direct their efforts to restore’ the Insensible
Perspiration. The Thompsonian, for instance,
steams, the Hydropathist shrouds us in wet blan
kets, the Homop&thist deals out infinitissimala,
the Allepwthist bleeds and doses us with mercury
and the’ blustering Quack gorges us with pills,
pills; pills.-
TU give R-onVe idea, of the amount of the In
sensible Perspirafibh; we wrl! state that lear
ned Dr. Lowenhock, ascertained that
of all we receive in the stomach, passed off by
this-means. In other words, if we eat and drink
eight pounds per day, wc evacuate five pounds
of it by the Insensible Perspiration.
This is mytfe’ other than the used up particles
6f the blood, and other juice* giving place
to the new andTj-esh ones. To cheek this, there
fore, is to retain in the system five-eights of all
the virulent matter that nature demands should
leave the body.
By a sudden transition from heat to cold, the
pOtes, arc stopped; the perspiration ceases, and
disease begins at once to develbpe itself—
Hence, a stoppage of this flow of the juices, or
iginates so many complaints. Nine tenths of the
world die from disease induced by a stoppage of
the Insensible Perspiration.
Let me ask, now, every candid mind, what
course seems the most reasonable to pursue,
to unstop’ the pores, after they are closed.—
Would you glVe physic to unstop the pores? Or
would you apply sorifething that would do this
upon the snrface, where the clogging actually is?
And yet I know of no physician who makes any
external application to effect it. Under these
circumstances, I present to physicians, and to
all others, McAllisters,- All Healing Ointment
or the World’s Salve. It ha# power to restore
perspiration on the feet, on the heady mound
old sores, upon the chest, in short- upon any part
of the body, whether diseased slightly or severe
ly.- It has power to cause all external sores,
scrofulous humors, • skin diseases, poisonous
wounds, to - discharge their putrid matter, and
then heals them, ftds remedy that sweeps off
the whole catalogue of cutaneous disorders, and
restores the entire cuticle to its healthy functions.
It is a remedy that forbids the necessity of so
many and deleterious drugs taken into the stom
ach. I have used it for the last fourteen years
for all diseases of the chest, consumption, liver,
involving the utmost danger and responsibilitv,
and I declare before Heaven and man, that not
in one single case has it failed to benefit, when
the patient was within the reach of mortal means.
I have had physicians, learned in the profes
sion, I have had ministers of the Gospel,-
on the bench, Aldermen and Lawyers, gentle
men of the highest erudition and multitudes of
the poor, use it in every variety of way, and there
has been but one voice—-one united and univer
sal voice—laying “McAlister. your Oointment is
g°<>d.
Headache The Salve has cured per
sons of the Headache of 10 years standing, and
who had it regularly every week, so that vomit
ing often took place.-
Deafness arid Ear Ache are helped with like’
success.
Cold Feet. It is a sure sign of disease in
thte system to have cold feet. The Salve will
cure every ease.*
In Scrofula, Erysipelas, salt Rheum, Liver
complaint Sore Eyes,, Quinsy, Sore Throat,
Bronchitis, Broken or Sore Breast, Piles, all
Chest Diseases, such as Asthma, Oppression,
Pain, also Sore Lips, Chapped Hhnds,- Tumours,
Cutaneous Eruptions, Nervous Diseases, and of
the Spine there is probably no medicine now
known so good.
Burns* Ft is’ the best thing in jhe world
for Burns,- (Read the Directions around the

PIMPLES ON THE FACE MASCULINE SKIN
GROSS SURFACE.
Its first action is to expel all humor. It will
not cease drawing till the face is free from any
matter that may be lodged under the skin, and
frequently breaking out to the surface. It then
hteals-. When-there i# nothing but grOsstiess, or
doll repulsive surface, it bOgirik to soften and
soften until the skin becomes as smooth atlfl-del
icate as a child’s.
Worms. IF parents knew how fatal most
medicines were to children taken inwardly, they
wottld* be slow to* resort tO” them. Especially
,‘mercurial lozenges” called ‘’’medicated lozen
ges,” “vermifuges” pills, &c. The’ trdth is, no
one can tell,- invariably when worms are present.
Now let me say to parents’ that this Skive will
always tell if a child has wdi-mfe.- If will drive
every vefitage of them away. (Read the direc
tions around thd boY.) !
Old Sore*. That sotnd sores are an outlet
to impurities of the system is, because they can
not pass off through the natural channels of the
Insensible Perspiration.- If such sores are healed
up the impurities- must have some other outlet,
or it will endanger life. This salve will always
proVidd ftft- such emergencies. ‘*
Rheitfnattem. It removes* ritfibftt im
mediately the inflamation and e welling; whChtbe
pain of course ceases.-
CornSi Occasional use of the Ointment
will always keep corns from growing. People
need never be troubled with them if they will
use it.
Asa family medicine, no man can me&mnre its
value. So long as thestarr roll along Over the
Heaven®—so long as man treads the earth,- sub
ject to all inflamities of the flesh—-so long asdic*
eases and sickness- irknown—just so long will
this good Ointment be used and’ esteemed.—

INDIAN VEGETABLE PAS ACS A.
READ THE FOLLOWING CERTIFI
CATE.
IVPSSRS. ROWiNP & WALTON—Gtnlkmfh;
-*-vX As you succeeded in effecting a care aeon
me with your “DR. CULLEN’S INDIAN VEG
ETABLE PANACEA,” after the most eminent
physicians in Cuba, New York, Baltimore, tori
Philadelphia, and all the most popular ad vertised
medicines of the day bad failed, you are fully en
titled to all the benefit which the fello wing state
ment of fhets can confer.
In the year 1819, while at asa on the brig
Commodore Perry, of this port my leg wea injur
ed by the anchor. The wonud became ecrcfeiouS
—was highly inflamed and painful, particularly id
spring and suromlr. From the time of the acci
dent, I waa under the treatment of the moet cele
brated physician# in the Island of Cuba, aad this
city, until 1834. The summer of that year X
spent in the country to make a fair trial ofSwain’s
Panacea; but even that popular medicine foiled
to prodyce any decided improvement. In 18301
applied to the most eminent tutgeon in New
York city, and I waa for a considerable time se
der his care without any particular benefit.
From that time until 1844, there waa no change
for the better; and during that year, while in
Baltimore my leg was slightly injured by a tail
road car, which caused the ulcers to rage with
tenfold violence. I applied to a physician, who,
after exhausting his shill in vain, said “ the un
sound timber mast be removed, or he could not:
keep the craft mnch longer afloat!” Not liking
to part with an old shipmate, however trouble
some, I refused to have it ukea off; my leg,
however, became so much worse that the uteesd
extended from my foot almost to the knee, laying
bare the bone, so exceedingly sore that I could
not bear even wilted plantain leaves, or the aaeat
simple salve to touch it.
Thus matters stood in October last, when for
vour gratification I commenced with Dr. Cullen’S
Indian Vegetable Panacea, with little foith,!.
confess, for I had used incredible quantities of
Sarsaparilla, and in fact, every other medicine
which I saw advertised, or beard recommended.
Physicians had failed and hope had fled I Imag
ine, then, my joy, when (after suffering TfPEN
TY-SIX YEARS,) I found before I finished the
first bottle, that the Panacea had wrought C de
cided Change for the better.
I afti bow a well man* and have been cured by
your Panacea alone, without the use of any other
medicine or preparation whatever!

T'O relieve and to cure suffering humanity if
A- a most important and interesting undertaking.
fn a matter of such vast moment, where health;
: happiness, and even life itself, aro involved, de
ception would Be unpardonable.
It gives us great pleasure to speak thus public-:
ly ol the astounding efficacy of tbc above prepar
ation, of which we have recently been an eye
witness, in the case of Mr. Isaac Brooks, jr., Jef
ferson street, four doors west of Schuylkill Bixth
street, below Locust. This gentleman, for a
long time was severely afflicted with that most
loathsome and unyielding disease, the Scrofula,-
so much so that the superior half of his person
was awfully disfigured, the ravages of the com
plaint having carried away his nose, palate, and
lip, and filled his throat with ulcers.
1 This most distressed individual, we are enabled
to say, has been entirely cured of his disease bv
the omnipotcncy of “Dr. Cullen’s Indian Vegeta
ble Panacea.” This is, without doubt, one of
the most wonderful cures of Scrofula ever pere”
Termed on a human being.
We have been induced to notice the matter
before Us from-motives of sympathy to the afflict-’
ed—'fortfhat is wealth, nay, what ia life, with
out health ? If there is a “balm in Gilead,” how
important thatit should be known !
Tt i# out deliberate judgement that tife Panacea
in question, is destiiigd to rise so very great im
portance in the medical world. We regard it a i
a pleasurable duty to give publicity to this most
invaluable remedy.. A*nd ! who’ that is suffering
from- the health and life-destroying disease refer
red to, would not wish to’make trial of a medi
cine which promises so much, and that too, upwu
such reasonable terms.
Many other cases in point, in our immediate
neighborhood;might bo referred to, in attestatiou
of the wonderful power sfi this Panacea, in the
cure ot Scrofula, mercurial diseases, white swell
ings; tetter, &c., and all impurities of the blood i
but it is not necessary. These facts serve to’
convince us that the “ Vegetable Panacea” is a
most extraordinary remedy. And we would say, ia
good faith, to the people wheresoever scattered;
who may be suffering fyoiii’ any of the complaints’
alluded to, by all means send to Messrs. Rowand
