The American steamship Pacific arrived at New York
_ this afternoon, bringing dates from Liverpool to the 3rd
instant. She re)>ort the Cotton market inactive without
any change in prices. Sales since the sailing of the Nia
ara on the nit. 22.000 bales.
The quotations by the Niagara were, Fair Orleans 6d,,
Pair Mobile sid., Fair Upland 5%d.

Cottov.— We have no material change to notice in
prices. The quantity offering very limited and holders
stiff In their prices.

week are 36,n00 bales. Speculators took 3.000 and Ex

of which exporters and speculators took 1500.
Breadstuff* are in fair demand, at full sales. Sugar ac

Cottom.—The market since our last weekly report lies
been without any actual change. Prices continue to rule
high, and the demand up to the small amount offered for
sale. Tho transactions since Friday amount to 379 bales,

remain nominal.

Fifty-one arrests have been made of parties implicated
Id the Christiana outrage. The Marshal] and Commis
sioner Ingraham, proceeded to make further arrests to
day. Gov. Johnson offered one thousand dollars reward

Jaines W. Armstrong, Maj. D. H. Hill and Thomas Steward,
son, M. D.
The Superintendent, Maj. Brumby, is a graduate of West,
Point. He comes to us with the best recommendations from
the Academic Staff of that Institution; and, also, from the
Faculty of the University of Alabama, where he taught Ma
thematics and Civil Engineering several years. Hen. Arm
strong and Maj. Hill are also graduates of YVest Point, and
are experienced teachers. The latter is at this time Profes
sor of Mathematics in Washington College, Va.
The course of instruction, regulations and discipline of the
T 7. S. Military Academy, so far ns they are applicable to a
State Institution, have been atlopUxl, and will be publislied
