that their line of Boat* are in full operation,
and Holicit their patronage: believing that
good* forwarded by way of Darien, i*thc inimt
expedition* route. The Company have five
new STEAM BOATS, commanded by first
rate Captain*, viz:

The J. Stone is a side wheel Boat, low pres
sure engine, carries 71)0 bale* of cotton, and
runs regularly three times a week, between
Savannah and Darien. The Chieftain is a side
wheel Boat, and carries 800 or 000 bale* til
, cotton, run* regularly between Darien and
Charleston, and between Savannah & Charles
ton. The Excel, Superior and J. Goddard, run
regularly between Darien and Macon, tow ing
two boat* each. One of them will leave Dari
en regularly every three day*—the usual time
of passage up is five or six day*.
This line i* connected with a line of seven
packet* running regularly between New York
i nnd Darien. Any good* or produce shipped to
their agent*, orordered to be whipped by their
line, will lie forwarded with deapateh. The
company, thankful for the patronage they have
received, have increased tneir mean* of con
; veyance largely, and pledge themselves to use
, every exrtion to faciltate tnc interests of those
who may ship by their line.
Their are also n line of schooners running
i between Charleston and Darien, to the Com
pany’s agent* in each place.

To provide for the eU of a convention to reduce -

Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and Houaeo
Representatives of the State of Georgia in general
asM-mblv met, and it ia hereby enacted by the au
thority of the same, That the first Monday in April,
eighteen hundred and thirty-nine, be, and the same
is lierrby designated and 1s t apart as the day on
which the citizens of Georgia, qualified to vote for
member* of t!* Lepßlaturs, *hn!l at the •rverai pla
ce* prescribed by law for holding such elections, vole .
for delegates to represent them in convention, in
number equal to their representation in both bran
ches of the General Asaeuibly, according to tlieir
|&m census : such election to bee'inducted, managed,
and certified tinder the same law/ as are of force in
respect to elections of members of the General As
** 2. And be it further enacted, Thai it shall be
the duty of such manager! to transmit to his excel
reU nejr the governor the reou’it of said elections under
j the law* now of force, conducting, managing, and
rertifiing electhmsof members of the General Assem
bly as aforesaid, within ten dars after such
lion ; whereupon it is made the duty of kiis excellen
cy the govenor, to iosue bis proclamation declaring
the result of such'election, by notifying the individu
als severally elected to represent the good people of
Georgia in convention, as contemplated by this act.
Her 3 And be it further enacted. That every cit
izen of the United State* *haU be eligible to a seat ii> *
said convention, who ha.- a tamed the age of 25 years f
and been an inhabitant of this immedi
ately preceding the day of election, and W'ho shall
have resided one year in thecounty for which he shall
be elected.
Sec. 4 And be it further enacted, That each mem
ber returned ns duly elected, shall previous, to taking
his seat in oaid convention, take the following oath or
affirmation, viz.
I do solemly swear that 1 will not attempt to add
or to take from the constitution, or attempt to change
or alter any other section, clause or article of the con
stitution of the state of Georgia, other than those
touching the representation in the General Assembly
thereof, and that I have been a citizen of this state
for the last three year*, so lielpme God. And any
I* rson elected to a seat in said convention, who shall
refuse lo take the oath aforesaid, shall not be allowed
to take his seat in said eunvenlion.
Sec. 5. And lie it further enacted, That the mem
bers of said convention shall assemble on tlie first
Monday in May, after tlieir election, at Milledgeville,
in the Representative Chamber of the Slate House,
for the purpose of entering upon and consummating
the great objects of their convention, to wit: a reduc
tion and equalization of the General Assembly:
I shall have power to piescribe their own rules and
forms of business ; and to determine on the qualifi
cation* of their own m-niUrs ; elect n> - ccirnry ttl&a—i
■- cers and make all orders which they inuy deem con
ducive to the furtherance of the object for which such
conveu ion shall assemble
Sec. 6. And be it further enacted, That it shall be
the duly of his excellency the govenor, to give pub
licity to the alterations and amenfamtiw* made intlat J
constitution, in refewnr h ) the reduction of the num
j berof members composing the General Assembly.;
and thu first Monday in October next, after the ri
’ aiug of said convention, he shall fix on for the ratifi
* cation by the people, of rttch amendments, alterations,
or new articles, as they may make for the objeels of
reduction and equalize!urn of the General Assembly
only ; and if ratified by a majority of the voters who
vote on thequestion of “Ratification,” or “No Ratifi
cation,” then and in that event, the alterations so by
them made and ratified, shall be binding on the peo
ple of this state, and not otherwise.
Sec. 7 And licit further enacted, That it shall be
a fundamental article in the formation or amend
incut* of the Convention, that each County of the
Bta‘r now organized or laid out, or which may here
after be created by law, shall be entitled to at least
one Representative in the Representative branch of
the General Assembly. The Senate shall becompc •
*ed of forty-six members only, from (forty-six) Sena
tonal Districts,composed of twocontigious Counties,
nnd in the event of the creation of any new County,
n shall be ad<b and to some contiguous senatorial Di.s
irict; and that the said Convention shall not disturb
the Federal basis, in apportioning the representation
in the General Assembly of the Suite of Georgia.
See. 8. And be it further enacted, That so *4>on as
the act Nhf.il have passed, his excellency the Gover
nor lx- and he is hereby required to cause it to be
puhliM-d in the Gazettes of this State, once a week
until the day fixed on by this act for the election of
Delegates to said Convention, as well as the number
to which each county shall be entitled in said Con
vention. according to the up)K>rtonment of members
of the General Assembly, to be mude under the late
Census taken nnd returned during the present year, j
Sec. 9. And be u further enacted, That the Dele-.J
j gates to said Convention be paid at and osier the*
I same rates that the members of the General Assent* i
j bly now receive; and that his Kxceilency the Gover- j
•or be requested to draw bis Warrant on the Tree- ■
* for the same, out of any money not othei wise
appropriated ; and all laws and parts of law’s miliia

pealed.

Wolf's Ferry, in Hardin county, Tennessee.
JOHN STEP is about St years of age, 5 feet 8 or
0 inches high, dark complexion, dark eyes, black hair
inclined to earl, aad a very low forehead. The mid
dle joint of the four finger of hiaright hand is consid
erably enlarged, occasioned, it is supposed, by a
hurt.
SOLOMON STEP is about 23 or 24 years of age.
5 feel 11 inches qigh, stout built, a little inclined to
be stoop shouldered, dark complexion, dark eyes, /
dark hair, inclined to curl, and very high check bones,/
The bones of his rirfn hand have been broken near/ ‘
the middle .of the palm, and occasions a eonsiderajC
ridge on the back of his hand.
The Steps formerly resided in the Cherokee £v
try , in Georgia, and ii is thought they will either Stake -
their way back to Georgia, or strike for Texas.
The above reward wiR be paid on their delivery in
Hardin county, Tennessee, or a proportionable re
ward for either.
