After taking the oath of office, Mr. Russ before a joint meeting of the two Houses,delivered his Inaugural Message, which is a businesslike document, anti, in brevity at least is worthy of imitation by our white Sachems. Mr. Ross commences by congratula ting the nation upon the orderly and peaceable manner in which the late elec tions have been conducted.. The con dition of the people, individually and collectively, is said to he prosperous. The efforts of the Temperance Societies have been encouraged, and their num bers greatly increased, and many con verts have been added to variotisCkurch- es in the Nation. During the past year, the District Schools have been more flourishing than hitherto, and the system is commended to the particularregardand fostering care of the Legislature. The buildings for two Seminaries, designed lor the instruction of the youth of the country, in the higher branches of edu cation, are in progress of erection.
