He views at length upon the subject, in which he urged the annexation of all the territory now in our possession, leaving the question of slavery to be determined by the people inhabiting it. Messrs. Yulee and Hale submitted sub stitutes, which they intended to offer at the proper time. That of the latter is similar to the YViltnot Proviso. The Senate then proceeded to the consideration of the order of the day, being the Ten Regiment bill. Mr. Clayton resumed his remarks, contending that the increase of the force in Mexico was unnecessary. He was willing to vote all necessary suppli for the army now in Mexico, but there was no occasion for augmenting the army, and he would therefore oppose ‘ 3 increase. Mr. Butler gave notice that he would move to recommit the bill to-morrow for amendment, so as to increase the number of privates and subaltern offi- trs for the regiments now in Mexico, stead ol creating new regiments. The Senate then went into Execu tive session, after which an adjournment took place. House of Representatives.—After pray- s by the Rev. Mr. Stephens moved to lay the mo rn on the table, which was carried j yeas 99 ; nays 74. Mr. Sicwart corrected an incorrect report oF his remarks made yesterday. The report from the committee on Claims, with the. resolution discussed yesterday, was then taken up and deba ted by several members. Mr. Evans moved to recommit the resolution, with instructions to inquire into the expense and time required to furnish the list of claims, which was adopted. The Speaker called upon the commit tees for reports, and several private bills were reported anti referred to the committee of the whole; with others ofa public nature.
