A correspondent of the Richmond Whig draws
the following comparison between Taylor and Cass:
1st. Gen. Csss is a partizan.
Gen. Taylor is a patriot.
2,1 Gen. Ca*s has always been a political as*
** Gen. Tsylor has always stood aloof from politics.
3d. Gen. Cass is a war man.
Geo- Taylor is a peace man.
41b. Gen. Cass never won a victory.
Gen. Taylor never lost a battle. „

leaves the slavery question to thc States
gfutcd in the Senate of the United States.
7th. Gen. Cass entertains high notions of the
President's authority ami prerogative. He ap
proves of a frequent use of the Veto power.
Gen. Taylor thinks the President
control the legislation of the coun'rv
peratc emergencies.
8th. Gen. Ca-s is pledged to itn
Presidents, who have violated the Constitution.
Gen. Tavlor is pledged to imitate the earlier
President-, who made the Constitution.
l)th. Gen. Cass in Iru
overbearing, Federal Kx«
patronage and power, shall control the legislation of
lliia country : that is to say, lie is a Fedrralist.
Gen. Taylor is in favor of confining the one-man
power within narrow limits, ami leaving thc entire
legislation of the country to the unbiased judgment
of the representatives of the |ico|de in Congress.—
He is therefore a Republican.
10th. Gen. Cass regards Congress as a very un
safe exponent of the national will, and thinks one
man elected for four years the liest depository of
power. He is therefore in principle an elective
monarchist.
Gen. Taylor regards Congress as the safest and
most faithful exponent of that will, and thinks that
the Kxerutivc is the most dangerous feature in our
Government, lie is therefore a Democrat as well
as a Whig.
I Ith. (Jen. Cass, if elected, will lie apt to follow-
in Mr. Polk's footsteps in reference to our foreign
relations, and may embroil us before we know it,
in ancthor foreign war.
Gen. Taylor, on thc contrary, stands pledged to
pursue the pacific policy of Washington, and to
avoid as much as possible the ill will of nations.
12th. Gen. Cuss is, finally, a restless agitator.
