William B. Potts, n distinguished and influential
politician of Schuylkill county, has abandoned Cass
and goes for Taylor.
Francis P. Blair, the celebrated • Globe Man/
and a delegate to the Baltimore Convention, is
friendly to Mr. Van Buren and opposed to Cass.—
This is truly defection in high places.
Montgomery Blair, Esq., soil of F. P. Blair, is
delivering stump speeches against Cass, in New
York and elsewhere.
Hon. Henry D. Gilpin, hite United States Attor
ney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, is
now a prominent opponent of the election of Cass.
Judge Myers, of Clarion, formerly a leading and
influential Democrat, and an elector on the Polk
and Dallas electoral ticket in 1844, is now a zeal
ous supporter of Taylor and Fillmore.
Dr. Edward E. Gazzam, George W. Jackson,
Esq., George R. Riddle, Esq., John Sarber, Esq.,
and a host of other prominent “ Democrats” of Al
legheny county have bolted the Baltimore nomina
tions— North American.
Cass Symptoms.—The St. Louis Republics:
says : “The Alton Monitor, a warm and zealous
Locofoco paper in Alton, Illinois, and the only one
in the city, has hauled down the Cass flag

We regret to learn, (says the ** Journal & Mes-
sengcr,”) that alter coming as far as Griffin on his
way to attend his appointment in Wilkinson coun-
- ty, Mr. Stephens wen compelled .to desist and re-
• turn borne. His hand had grown extremely pain
ful, and the general debility of his system increas
ed to-aoch an extent,that it was thought advisable by
his ‘Physicians that he should abandon all idea ot
engaging in the excitement of the campaign. His
appointment at Gordon yesterday, was filled by
Mr. Nisbet, and we understand that Mr. Toombs
has kindly consented to meet the people of Wilkin
son in hi* behalf at Irwinton, and at least one oth
er place.
To the Taylor men ol the Seventh Ditrict, we
irrew scarcely say one word aoder the circum
stances. Their immediate leader has been ruth
lessly cot down, but Old Zac’’ is still in the field.
Need we ask if they will abandon the glorious
-standard that has so often waved over them
nmph ? We know they will not. Every Taylor
man in the District should make it a personal mat
ter matenly to vote himself but secure the vote of
every generous Democrat in the District, for their
faithful but on fort mate Representative, whose ser-
vices demand respect, and whose wounds - speak

per, published in Missouri has come out lor the tres
-ii nomination, and abandoned Cass. This paper
influential in the direction of many hundred *'o-
rs in the counties of Gascouade, Franklin, Cole
and Osage, where the doctrine of free soil and free
labor is a prominent fueling with the Germans.—

It will be seen that in the above letter, Mr. Moses
asks for a distinct, unmistakeable cxplanat'on «

and insulting reply:
