■ ttnh nrfren. SAVANNAH CARDS. &r., B A L D VV IN CO U N T Y. Mr. Joshua Billiugs, some serious pcopie may think is a fool or a modi fied jackass, and not of much account; but those who are of just as serious turn of mind think that now and then he speaks very broad truth, though in a homely manuer. Here is one of his last sayings: “I never know’d a farm that was worked pooty much by the ory but what was ‘for sale or let’ eve ry fu years; and I never know’d a farm that was worked in the old igno rant way ov our ancestors but what was handed down from father to sun, and was a!us noted lor raising brawny- armed boys, buxom lasses and first rate potatoes.” Raw Beef for Invalids.—Raw beef, it is asserted, proves the great est benefit as a diet for persons of frail constitutions. It is reported that physicians are now administering to consumptives a diet of finely chopped raw beef, properly seasoned with salt, and heated by placing the dish con taining it in boiling water. The food is given also in cases where the stomach rejects almost every other form of food. It assimilates rapidly, and affords nour ishment, while patients learn to long for and to like it as much as Dr. Kane did his Arctic dinners of raw seal and walrus. The deficiency of yield of ground traversed by the shadow of trees may be remedied in a degree by treating the ground thus exposed to shadow with plaster. Plaster is a better fer tilizer of shaded soil than of exposed soil. It requires the additional mois ture to fully develop its fertilizing pro perties. To Make Stale Bread Fresh.— It is not generally known as it ought to be, thatdftale baker’s, or other loat bread, may be made as nice as freshly baked by dipping the loaf In clean, cold water, and warming through in a bake oven. Much bread might be saved that is thrown away, if this were more generally practiced than it is. The States of the remote west are keeping a new holiday of some practi cal importance. It is called “ Arbor Day,” and is devoted to the planting of fruit and forest trees. Every man is expected to do the State some ser vice on that day, and the barren hills are to tell to future ages the story of the planting in noble forests of tim ber, while the homestead, surrounded by its orchards, testifies in its yearly abundance of fruit and its grateful shade to the same wise foresight.— Tiiere k something very practical in the festival. It is the neaiest thing we have to the picturesque harvest homes of old England or the gather ing of the vintage of France. It is not to be menu med in the same breath with the mode ot celebrating our ex plosive Fourth of July. G-. 33. Hill bag made final re *1 turns ns Administrator of the esfale of Mrs Matilda E Hill late ot said slate and Coun y deceas ed, ami applied for letters of dismission on same Ayer’s Cathartic Pills, the purposes of a Laxative Perhaps no one medi cine is so universally re quired by everybody as a cathartic, nor was ever any before so universal ly adopted into use, in every country and among all classes, as this mild but efficient purgative Pitt. The obvious rea son is, that it is a more re- 3k liabie and far more effec- ? tual remedy than any other. Those who have tried it, know that it cured them; those who have not, know that it cures their neighbors and friends, and all know that what it does once it does always — that it never fails through any fault or neglect of its composition. We have thousands upon thou sands of certificates of their remarkable cures of the following complaints, but such cures are known in every neighborhood, and we need not publish them. Adapted to all ages aad conditions in all climates; containing neither calomel or any deleterious drug, they may"be taken with safety by anybody. Their sugar coating preserves them ever fresh and makes them pleasant to take, while being purely vegetable no harm can ariso from their use m any quantity. They operate by their powerful influence on the internal viscera to purify the blood and stimulate it into healthv action—remove the obstructions of the stomach, bowels, liver, and other organs of the body, restoring their irregular action to health, and bv correcting, wherever they exist, such derange ments as arc the first origin of disease. Minute directions are given in the wrapper on the box, for the following complaints, which these Pills rapidly cure; — For Dyspepsia or Indigestion, listless- neii. Languor and Loss of Appetite, they should be taken moderately to stimulate the stom ach and restore its healthy tone and action. For Liver Complaint and Its various symp toms, Billons Heaildcbe. Sick Headache, Jaundice or Green Nicknes*. Bilious Colic and Bilious Fevers, they should be ju diciously taken for each case, to correct the diseased action or remove the obstructions which cause it. For Dysentery or Diarrhoea, but one mild dose is generally required. For Rheumatism, Goat, Gravel, Palpi tation of the Heart, Pain in the hide, Back and I-oins, they should be continuously taken, as required, to change the diseased action of the system. With such change those complaints disappear. For Dropsy and Dropsical Swellings they should be taken in largo and frequent doses to pro duce the effect of a drastic purge. For Suppression a large dose should be taken a- it produces the desired effect by sympathy. As s Dinner Pill, take one or two Pills to pro mote digestion and relieve the stomach. An occasional dose etimul tes the stomach and bowels into healthy action, restores the appetite, and Invigorates the system. Hence it is often ad vantageous where no serious derangement exists. One who feels tolerably well, often finds that adoso of these Pills makes him feel decidedly better, from their cleansing and renovating effect on the diges tive apparatus. DR. J. Id td No one remedy is louder called for by the necessities of the American people than a sure and safe cure for Fever and Ague. Such we are now enabled to offer, with a perfect certainty that it will eradicate the disease, and with assur ance, founded on proof, that no harm can arise from its use in any quantity. That which protects from or prevents this disorder must be of immense service in the communities where it prevails. Prevention is better than cure; for the patient escapes the risk which he must run in violent attacks of this baleful distemper. This •• Cras” expels the miasmatic poison of Fever and Ague from the system, and prevents the develop ment of the disease, if taken on the first approach of its premonitory symptoms. A great superiority of this remedy over any other ever discovered for the speedy and cer tain cure of Intermittents is, that it contains no Quinine or mineral; consequently it pro duces no quinism or other injurious effects whatever upon the constitution. Those cured by it are left as healthy as if they had never had the disease. Fever and Ague is not alone the con sequence of tho miasmatic poison. A great variety of disorders arise fr om its irritation, among which are Neuralgia, Rheuma tism, Gout, Headache. Blindness, Toothache, Earache, Catarrh, Asth ma, Palpitation, Painful Affection of the Spleen, Hysterics. Pain in the Boweli. Colic, Paralysis, and derange ment of the Stomach, all of which, when originating in this cause, put on the inter mittent type, or become periodical. This “Ccke” expels the poison from the blood, and consequently cures them all alike. It is an invaluable protection to immigrants and persons travelling or temporarily residing in the malarious districts. If taken oocasion* ally or daily while exposed to the infection, that will be excreted from the system, and cannot accumulate in sufficient quantity to ripen into disease. Hence it is even more valuable for protection than cure; and few will ever suffer from Intermittents if they avail themselves of the protection this rem edy affords. For Liver Complaints, arising from torpid ity of the Liver, it is an excellent remedy, stimulating the Liver into healthy activity, and producing many truly remarkable cures, where other medicines fail.
