Editor Union & Recorder : Thinking that a stray communica tion from one of your townsmen would uot be amiss, aud might prove in a slight degree interesting to a portion of your readers, I send you a shore sketch of Thomasville, and the 3d Annual Exhibition of the South Geor gia Agricultural & Mechanical Asso ciation. Arriving in this, the future Gate City ol Southern Georgia, I was sur prised to find quite a beautiful little inland city of 3500 inhabitants, regu larly laid out, and many of the streets already fitted up with neat, tasty resi dences,. White, Broad, and Jackson streets are built up with neat, sub stantia!, brick houses already occu pied, with quite a number in course of construction, evincing a degree of pro gress, energy and thrift, seldom wit nessed in the South. As an evidence of that prosperity and energy, I have only to cite the enterprise manifested by the manage ment of their Fair Association. Tho 3rd exposition opened on Wednesday morning last, and was certainly one of the finest displays ever made by a similar institution. The department of agriculture was well filled and ro- fiected great credit upon the enter prise of farmers of the adjoining coun ties, whilst the exhibition of stock would reflect credit upon any section of country. Quite an unusual sight was afforded your correspondent in huge clusters of Oranges, Bananas, Sugar Cane and other semitropicai fruits; passing up stairs we found an elegant display of fancy, and needle work; we noticed also, that the lead ing Savannah firms, were represented by active canvassers, and immense dis plays of goods and wares in their res pective lines; and though it has been raining steadily, since Monday, the grounds of tho Association have been thronged with visitors, varyingfrom 1,- 500 to 5000 daily, and under propitious circumstances would have been fully double. We think also, that it would not be amiss to call the attention of the management of the other fair asso ciations in our State, to the manner iu which Col. A P Wright of this city, manages this, commencing as he did, under less favorable auspices than any other association iu the State, he has built for the society a fine two story exhibition ball, well adapted for fair purposes, while eituated conveniently in various portions of their beautiful grounds, are the halls for tho exhibi tion of machines and various kinds of machinery, cotton &c., and all this done, and paid tor without a single dollar of indebtedness, and a handsome surplus in their Treasury. Tho only fair association that we-can call to mind that succeeded. To give you an idea of the importance in which this associ ation is held by this portion of the State, wc would say that there are fourteen arrivals and departures of passenger trains daily, during the fair from the various points centering here, but.for fear that I tresspass too much upon your columns, I had best close, and promise possibly more anon.
