We me pleased to know that the Board of Educa

of this valuable series, to take effect at the begin
ning of 1874. It will be remembered that Gen. John
L. Gordon is A ice President of this publishing com
pany.
The I’ni veisity Series of School Books may be
sately recommended as the best suited of all others
to our schools. Many of the Northern publications
arc opsn.y hostile to the South—even to the petty-
meanness ot embodying partisan views of the late
gieat war. The Univer.-ity Series keeps nobly aloof
lioin all sectional bias. \V believe they are kept for

Of tiie excel mee and perfect completeness of this
grand organization, the press have been most lavish
iu their praise wherever it has been this Bea3on. The

sive centre poles are required to exhibit it properly.
The new and original idea of a double circusperform-

beholder as a decided innovation upon the old" order
of thing-. A double ring with a dual company per

notwithstanding the financial stringency. They seem
prepared lor any emergency, and when money was

1 lie impression prevails that 1 Ki: loo nance avion- arc
of recent date, and the farcical ending of the projected
expedition of the celebrated suronaut YViae .across the
Atlantic ocean in his great balloon, has I-.-d to a renew
ed impression that such attempts arc mere folly.
While we regard the navigation of the air as a
means ot travel or the transportation of merchandise,
or even of intelligences to considerable distances, or to
pre-arranged termini of travel, as extremely improba
ble,Still it is well to have a correct idea of Ihe subject,
and some knowledge of what has been achieved by ex
periments in this line. Even in ancient times the
subject of Air-Voyaging was discussed; hut practical
realization oi tue idea was not accomplished until the
last century—that is, if we exclude from our calcula
tions such examples as those of the Tarpeian Rock,
and oi 1 lie Sappho who leaped down tho promontory'
ofLcucate. In 174 7 Messrs. Blanchard and J.-ffries
(the latter an American) succeeded in crossing the
Engli-li channel from Franee to England in a balloon.
Since that day many aerial voyages have been effect
ed successfully; and many fatal accidents, a'ise, have
resulted. In the seige of 1’ari- in 1871, persona and
dispatches were often sent out of Baris beyond the
German lines iu balloons. Many valuable scientific
facts have been developed by explorations of the up
per strata of our atmosphere, far higher than tho lofti
est mountain-summits- For a most iuteresing article
on balloons, see the October Number of “Oar Young
Folks,’’ the popular Monthly replete always with
charming engravings and reading matter, published

all classes of goods in her line on to-morrow, the 15th of
October. She will take pleasure in exhibiting the

Oh! Mrs. S. where did you buy that beautiful
Black Alpacea ?
Mrs. S.—I bought it at “THE AUGUSTA STORE”
and only gave 7o cents a yaid for if, don’t you think
it cheap!
Oh! very 1 Here is one I paid Air. $100 a
yard for, and I declare it is not as tine as yonrs. and it
is turning brown already. Well! 1 have always heard
my friends say, ! bat goods were sold cheaper at the
“Augusta Store’’than anywhere else, and hereafter I
intend to buy where I can save the most money.
Mrs. S.—Well, I found ont long ago that I coaid buy
more goods at the “Augusta Store’’ for less money,
than anywhere else, and have been doing my trad
ing there ever since.

a letter in that paper from which we copy the following
extracts. She professes to “ten miles distant from
Milledgeville on the M. it A. R-R.” Who is she?
During that interesting period known ns the war, I
was almost as fond of wielding the pen as I was skill
ed in breaking hearts. I am stfcfca buxom lassie al
though much hard woik has caused me to relinquish
both the above pleasures.
Milledgeville is not a very handsomely built town.
Many of the houses are eld and diugy, and it would
puzzle any mechanic to explain by what rules ot
architecture they were planned. However, as aset off
to these dwellings, the merchants have erected a num
ber of handsome brick stores which give an imposing
appearance to the business quuitor of the city. Trade
is bri.'k and many people are making fortunes.
This is quite a sickly season for this region. Fever
is much more prevalent than is agreeable. Nobody
minds it much lor we are blessed with an admirable
corps of physicians. Among the most notable nre l>r.
Samuel White, Dr. Hull, and Dr. Ilerly. These skill
ful practitioners never fail to put dis- ase to flight if
called in time. Delays nre dangerous in sickness as
at! well as war.
Milledgeville is also fortunate in possessing two very
talented ininUteis, Rev. Mr. Jarrell, of t tie M. E.
Church, and the Rev. Mr. Goetcbius, of the Presby
terian Church Both these gentlemen arc eminent for
their piety and ability iu expounding the wold.
What is the matter with the Macon Telegraph

ONLY KNOWN MEDICINE
that at the same Time
Pi rjes, Purifies, and Strengthens the
System.
Dr. Tull’s Pills are composed of many ingredi
ents. Prominent among them are Sarsaparilla and
Wild Cherry, so united as to act together; tiie one,
through its admixture with other substances, purify
ing and purging; while the other is strengthening the
svstem. Thus these Pills are at the same time a tonic,
aud a cathartic,a desideratum long eonghtfor by med
ical men, but never before discovered. In other
words, they do the work of two medicines aud do it
much better than any two we know of, tor they re
move nothing from th: system but impurities, so that
while they purge they ulso strengthen and hence they
cuuse no debility and nre followed by no reaction.
Dr. Tutl’w Pill* have a wouderful influence on
the biood. They uut only purity without weakening
it. but they remove all noxious particles from the
chyi • before It is converted into fluid, and thus makes
impure blood an utter impossibility. As there is no
debilitation, so there is no nausea or sickness attend
in'' ihe operation of this most excellent medicine,
which never strains or tortures the digestive organs,
but causes them to work in a perfectly natural mati-
uer; hence persons takiug them do not become pale
aud emanciated, baton the contrary, while all impu
rities are being removed, the combined action ot the
Sarsaparilla aud Wild Cherry purifies and invigorates
the body, aud a robust state of health is the result oi
their united action. Price, 25 cents a box. Sold by
a'-l druggists. Depot 48 Cortlandt St., New York.
