name ot Goff, who are his tenants, a„ u began to com
plain and scold about some cotton be wi lied nicked
out. A dispute arose, and Harris went home and got
bis gun and, returning, fired a load oi duck shot at
Mrs. Judy Goff, who was standing in her door, the shot
taking effect in her face, breast and bowels i,
a most painful and dangerous wound.
Harris has been arrested and lodged in jail!

This horrible affair, between parlies almost
to drop into the grave from old age, (Harri

result of intemperance.
We were pleased to learn from I>r. Hall on yester
day that Mrs. Goff was in a more comfortable coudi-
tion and that he entertained some hope of her recov
ery.

Deafli of an Aged Citizen.
Mr, Buradell P. Stubbs died at II o’clock yester" i
eiday, at the residence of his sou in-law, R. W- f
Jemison. Esq., after a painful and protract* d illness j
at the advanced age of 74 years, 8 months and M
days. Mr. Stubbs was born iu Elbert county in this’
State, on the 3.1 of February, 1793. In 131*7 lie re i
moved to Miiledgeville, wheie he resided until in 1871, '
when became to Macon and made lus home with hi-i
son in law. For forty years lie was an elder in the j
Presbyterian church, and was a teacher in the first;
Sunday-School ever organized in Miiledgeville. lie j
raised a family of ten children and lived to see them '
all grow up to be an honor to him. For eighteen I
years hs was clerk of the Superior Court of Baldwin!
county.— Telegraph Messenger, 18//,.
Mr. Stubbs' remains were brought to this city on !
Saturday. His funeral took place in the Presbyterian j
Church, and his body wa3 followed to the grave by ;
many sorrowing friends.
