The renusyivama Election,
i tic majority given for Mackey for
State r reasurer in Pennsylvania —
'Jo.352—is fifty-nine less than that
whichihe received in PhiWidfljiRia, his
majority in that city being 25,421, so
that the State outside of tint city
declared in favor of his opponent.
Gordon, for Supreme Jud^e, ran
considerably better for the State
at large than his colleague on the tick
et, na\ ing a majority outside the city’
of 5,309, hut the ring probably did not
| deem it so essential to figure up a lar^e
j majority for him in the city. His ag-
j gregate majority reaches only J 4,19-1,
j or over eleven thousand less than that
given for Mackey. It is noteworthy
that Mr. Hutchinson, the Demo-
ciatic candidate for State Treasurer,
made the best run on the State, out
side of Philadelphia, that has been
made by an opposition candidate for
years. Grant's majority in Novem
ber, 1S72, without Philadelphia, was
over ninety’ thousand; Hartranft, in
Get, had 15,] 90 majority. The pre
ceding year Stanton, the Republican
candidate for Auditor General, had
3,000 majority; in I860 Geary, for
Governor, had 19G majority, and in
1S6S Gen. Grant carried the State
outside of the city by 23,000 majority.
This year Mr. Hutchinson has a ma
jority of (39 in al! of Pennsylvania
except Philadelphia, showing most
clearly that the people in the State
are for reform, and that all that is ne
cessary to secure it is to inaugurate a
grand assault in that strong-hold of
rings and election frauds—Philadel-
