At three P. M. the childxe l of the
school and others assembled in iu- Rep
resentative Chamlier where they enjoyed
Fi TT U „ ll0 , Ur "““J gleeful games, the
old Hall where formerly Georgia’s greatest
statesmen were wont' to thunder forth
thrilling eloquence, now resounded with
the genial merriment of happy children.
By invitation the assemblage then went
below to Miss Fair's school room where
a handsomely decorated, brilliantly light
ed Christmas Tree bent under the weight I
of gifts for the little children. The Rev.
, : uttered a short prayer, after
which Miss Fair’s pupils recited the ac
count of the birth of the Blessed Jesus
who said “suffer little children to come
unto me.' Alick Darnell, the orator of
the occasion, declaimed well and appro
pnately. While every body was whisper
ing commendation on the excellence of
the speech and the beauty of the tree,
the buzz was brought to a pause by the
appearance of the veritable and venerable
""Santa Clatis ’ himself with hobbling
gait and wintry garb. The good-natured
generous-hearted old man shook hands
with each scholar and it was really amu
sing to watch the children's timid little
faces as politeness and gratitude demand
ed an exchange of courtesies with their
benefactor.
The gifts were soon distributed and
.Santa Claus retired.
The little folk then returned to the
Representative Hall and partook of a
sumptuous feast, and retired to their
homes with happy hearts.
Miss Fair is eminently successful as a
teacher of young children. She possesses
the rare faculty of exacting perfect 6be-
dience and winning the sincere love of
her pupils. Her school is conducted
somewhat after the German Kindeb-gab-
ten system. Her pupils are instructed
and amused, and by this judicious com
bination of study ani recreation, their
little minds are never wearied and their
childish ideas are better developed and
elevated.
Miss Fair’s terms are extremely mod
erate. The parents who have large fam
ilies and do not patronize her, have no
idea what a blessing they lose by not
having their children well taught and
well cared for during five days in each
week. M. F. F

ADOLPH JOSEPH,

Christmas Week.
Christmas Eve was a busy day. in a
small way, with our merchants generally.
The confectionery’ and toy stores, espe
cially, were crowded, and at Messrs.
Conn’s, Haas’, Thomas’ and Fred Hanft s
it was almost impossible to find standing
room. Those who delayed their pur
chases to this late hour had cause to re
gret it. The greasy pole in front of Mr.
Frankland’s was the great attraction and
caused much boisterous merriment. Un
successful efforts to climb it were numer
ous : but sooner or later some one was
found who w r ent to the top and brought
down the prize; showing what can be
accomplished by perseverance.
Christmas dixy was rainy and disagree
able and the streets were comparatively
quiet—one’s own fireside being the most
attractive place. Of course, there were
some men who thought the way to be
happy was to drink all the mean whiskey
they can hold and slosh around in the
mud.
Friday the weather was more pleasant
and the streets pi’esented a lively appear
ance. The colored fire company and the
Fantastics were out in the afternoon, fol
lowed by a noisy crowd. And just here
the thought occurs to us, that the change
in the time of holding our municipal
election is unfortunate if Christmas, the
season of idleness and dissipation, is to
be used for electioneering.
On Saturday the colored population
still fill the streets.
On Monday we see a fanner, here and
there, talking with freechnen. Contracts
for another year will engage the attention
of white and black for the next few days.
BSinstrcls.
The Minstrels have decided to give
their Entertainment on next Thiu’sday
evening, in the Senate Chamber. We
hope our citizens will turn out and give
them a full house. The cause is a good
one. Let all remember to go New Year’s
evening to hear tlio Boys.

THE ONLY kfWWAI MEDICINE
that at the same Time
Furges, Purifies, and Strengthens the
System.
4>r. Tull's Fills are composed of many ingredi
ents. Prominent among them are Sarsaparilla and
Wild Cherry, so uuited as to act together; the one,
through its admixture with other substances, purify
ing and purging; while the other is strengthening the
system. Thus these Pills are at the same time atonic
and a cathartic, a desideratum long sought tor by med
ical men, but never before discovered. In other
words, they do the work of two medicines and do it
much better than any two we know of, for they re
move nothing from the system but impurities, so that
while they purge they also strengthen and hence they
cause no debility and are followed by no reaction.
Dr. Tull’* Pills have a wonderful influence on
the blood. They not only purify without weakening
it, but they remove all noxious particles from the
chyle before it is converted into fluid, and thus makes
impure blood au utter impossibility. As there is no
debilitation, so there is no nausea or sickuees attend
ing the operation of this most excellent medicine,
which never strains or tortures the digestive organs,
but causes them to work in a perfectly natural man
ner; lienee persons taking them do uot become pale
and emanoiated, but on the contrary, while all impu
rities are being removed, the combined action of the
Sarsaparilla and Wild Cherry purifies and invigorates
the body, and a robust state of health is the result of
their united action. Price. 25 cents a box. Sold by
u ; l druggists. Depot 48 Cortlanut St, New York.
