1ST ILL be rented at public outcry on Tuesday the

Sheriff’s sales, in said county, between the hours of 12
and 2 o'clock P. M for the term of nine months, com
mencing on the 2d day of April and ending on the 31st
day of December, 1874, to the highest bidder, the Toll
Bridge over the Oconee River, and the premises thereto
belonging, upon the terms now published at the East
end of said Bridge. One of said rates being for citizens
of said conuty and the other for transient or non-resi
dents. The reuter to give bond and security, to pay
in the rental quarterly and for a faithful discharge of
the duties in taking care and preserving said bridge.
Col. Wm. McKinley, liis family, servants and proper
ty are to pass over said Bridge free—it be'mg a reser
vation by him in the sale. No person allowed to ride
or drive over said bridge faster than a walk, and said
bridge to be at all times subject to inspection by the
county authorities; and said reuter acquires no greater
right or privilege than now enjoyed by the county

Aid Miller, Chairman Finance Committee, tendered
Tax Ordinance for the present year, which was read,

On motion Aid Compton the rules were suspended
and the Deputy Marshal elect, P. H. Ferrell being
in attendance, was sworn in and entered on the dts
charge of his duties.

Resolved, That the commitlee appointed to look
into the Books of the late Clerk, be authorized to
make such settlement as they deem proper. They
also ask for further time to make a settlement Tht
committee recommend Chat the Council relund the

On motion the committee was granted further time,

Resolved That we petition the Legislature through
our present’Representative, to strike out so much of
Section 3 of an Act passed August 27th, 1872 to
amend the several laws incorporating the City of M.l-
ledgeville to read as follows: Be it further enacted
that the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of MiUedge-
ville shall have power aud authority to impose aud
collect a Tax on all Retail Dealers in Spirituous or
Fermented Liquors not exceeding five hundred dollars
per annum in the discretion of said Mayor and Alder-
men. Adopted
On motion the rules were suspended, and the folio
ing Ordinance was read and passed.

That a Chief of Fire Department shall be elect
ed at the first regular meeting of each new Board, or
as soon thereafter as practicable, whose term of of
fice shall extend through the term of said Board.
The Chief of Fire Department shall have charge
of all Fire apparatus belonging to the city; shad ex
ercise a general supervision over all cisterns and ap
pliances for obtaining water ; shall report any matter
or thing liable to cause a conflagration in the city; and
at the end of each year shall report in full the condi
tion of his apparatus, cisterns, St-c., and from time to
