To (he Editors of the Erpress; liiors of the Erpress: : jin the month of October, 1866, some clerks uected with the office of the Commissary eral of Prisoners having to look for some records as to the status of certain Rebel pris oners, and what disposition had been made of them, were greatly surprised that certain large volumes had suddenly and had suddenly , T disappeared. Greatly baffled'at tins str disappearance, they made a general search for the missing books, when, to ■ their utter amazement, they discovered that in all seven teen record books had been feloniously ab stracted. A list of the contents of naafeing record-books was given f to ! a’ known firm of detectives, but this led to no fclue of the missing books, and a subsequent inanity elicited the fact that the. detectives had received a note front-one of the officers of that Bureau to desist from further investi gating the matter.
