I CiSasies.-These little songsters were orig- .jally natives Of the Cayry Islands, and yore first introduced into Europe as cage angers, in the early part of the 17th century. They are now entirely ex tinct on the Islands from whence they take tbeir name; and are now raised in large a va nes in Germany, from whence the best birds come. The lizard, spangled back and tonqnil arc the best singers, and usually the health iest birds. All varieties of cananes can be obtained irom Hr- ®- Noble, who has them for sale at his place, on Broughton street,- opposite the Marshall House, or from Mr. T. The Black Stab Lute of New Yoke Siexmebs.—The success of the Black Star Independent lane of New York steamers has become such an established fact, and freights have increased to snch a degree that the Company have found it necessary to establish a icifti-weekly line. Hereafter, the steamers will leave this port every Wednesday and Saturday. As the commencement of this ar rangement, the Marinion, a first-class steamer, will sail from Savannah on Wednesday next. Messrs. Oetavus Cohen & Co. are the enter- prisingagents of this line; and they will issue through bills of lading on ; cotton destined for Liverpool, if desired; and have it shipped on the best steamers plying between New York and Liverpool. Justice to the Livino.—Last May, the schooner Odd Fellow was chartered to trans-. port a monument from Savannah to Beaufort (where it has been erected over the Union dad in the cemetery), by a lady representing t Massachusetts society; and to this day the man who performed the service of affreight ment has not been paid tbe $175 agreed upon by formal document. He has forebone taking any harsh measures to recover his dues, believing that the debt would be liquidated, as it was for so delicate purpose, but he has been seriously mistaken, »nd has hod to consult his attorney on the abject of a suit,—Charleston Mercury. Goxe.—The Beaufort excursionists left for tome yesterday morning. The majority of them were on a joUy old drank here Thurs day night. Four of them were going through Johnson square about 12 o’clock, when, one exclaimed, “We’se de gernmen fum Bufurt, we is; and we’se gwine to Johnny Sullivan’s', to git a good drink.” Judging from appear ances, the “ gemmen from Beaufort” will never suffer any evil effects from sobriety, if they pursue the same coarse 'at home as abroad. i to Sail To-Dax.—The steamship San Salvador, of the Empire line, John W. 1 Anderson’s Sons & Co., agents, and K- S. Mr. Ehrlich :waa-*-.the jicrforaier, and Air. Schreiner accompanied on-the piano. This Was one of the best parts, of the perfor- rrmni-a . X" snln" by,.. Mr- Bates. '..followed,j and next Miss Golden sang “O Mio Fernando". (Verdi). Her voice, was very sweet and pleas ing, and the piece was rendered so finely that she was called out again, and gave the beautiful Scotch ballad—“Kobin Adinr.” The Quartette then closed Fart X-, with a song, “i.ovely Night,” which, with a due deference to the Club, we think was a tittle too solemn for an occasion of pleasure. ■' After a long interval, the secondpart of the performance commenced with a song, 1 ‘Those .EveryWhere/'-by Mr. -Bates: NKss Allen foF lowed with: “ Batbe Blene.” . ‘She was inwird again, and sang a pretty Irish air, “The Hove Letter.” Mr. Ward was next on the pro gramme, arid -the “■'White.\SquaU”'was his song. Ward appeared to lie’ the favorite of the evening; having given the above piece, a unanimous call of the house brought him for ward again, when he sang “Kitty Tyrrell” so excellently well as to put the audience in fine good humor, and it insisted on Mr. Ward’s coming ou® Again. There was no shirking the demand, and the public’s favorite came to the front once more, and gave “Paddy O'Flaherty” with such spirit and humor that he had hard work to get off from singing again. Miss Golden then gave “ Sempre Libera” (Verdi), which was so well executed that an .enthu siastic encore was given, and tho lady in answer thereto sang a Southern patriotic song. Mr. Schreiner then so de-~ tighted the assemblage with “Home, Sweet Home,” with variations, that .he was called for again, and acceding to the wish of those present, resumed his place at the piano, and gave “My Maryland,” “The Bonnie Blue Flag” and “Dixie,” amid cheers and loud ap plause. “Larboard Watch,” by two members of the Quartette Club, closed the entertain- ment. •’ jj - : t L is - v 4« 1 We congratuolate the “Meta” upon the snccess of their concert The amateur talent proved equal to the occasion. -Miss Allen’s voice, powerful and cultivated, was pleasant' to listen to, and Miss Golden's soft and sweet notes made music that was of a character worthy to rank with the best. The Quartette Club and Mr. Schreiner “covered themselves with honors,” and the audience quitted the Theatre feeling that they had thoroughly en joyed the evening’s performance. Sudden Death—Coboneb’sInquest.—About half-past six o’clock on Thursday evening, the policemen on duty in the market saw a col ored man stagger thrbugn there And go up St Julian street He thought the man was drunk, but said nothing to him, as he was going along quietly. The colored man started to go up St Julian street, 1 but when in front of Mr. J. Muller’s place, two doom from mar ket square, he reeled and half fell upon a little wooden platform in front of the door-, step. A colored man in the store asked him what was the matter, with him, ancLhe re plied that he had an awful cold. He com-’ menccd groaning and' frothing at the mouth, Mr. Muller brought out water, spirits and wine, and tried to assist him; bat, while a servant held a glass of wine to his lips, he fell over dead. Dr. T. C. Harden, .Coroner, was notified of the occurrence. The bod}- was removed from' in front of Mt. Muller’s stbte to the engine bouse in Franklin square, where an inquest was held, and the jury found a verdict to the effect that deceased came to his death from epilepsy. L-, The name of the deceased person was William Atkins. He formerly belonged to the McAlpin -family, and was. a very good, hard-working man. He was fifty years of age, a carpenter by trade, and very well known to many citizens. His body was taken out to the McAlpin place, where he formerly resided. -• r, r . - . . .vannan now has some ries, all of whom continue to act as such. The Chief and Associate Justice of the Su preme Court, the former of whom, it is no torious, had much to do with the compiling of the Con8tituti6h, hold this opinion. The old Notaries, therefore, have no grounds to net upon, save the bill passed by the' Legisla ture, which ,the Supreme Court will assuredly decide to have been unconstitutional.
