SAVANNAH MARKET.
OFFICE OF THE MORNING NEWS, I llY Y i
Savannah, Novemberll, 6P. M.J
Cotton.—The market opened quiet, with rather
light inquiry. There were some foreign buyers in the
market, but offering much below sellers’ prices. The
3 P~ M. dispatch from New York put a stop upon any
farther transactions. The market closed quiet at 23c.
The following are the sales of the day; A, bales at
23J*c, 111 at 23, 87 at 22X. 176 «* 22&, 13 at £2& 8 at
22Jk£, 2 at 22. Mt 21%, 19 at 20, 8 at 19, and 10 at 18-
total, 446 bales.
The receipts amount to 1,844 bales.
Gold—Buying at 134%; selling at 136%. Silver 10
& cent less.
Exchange.—New York sight buying at %c. off; sell
ing at.%@%c. off. Boston %c. less. Philadelphia %c.
Sterling biU#in demand at l44%e.; Banks are check
ing in amounts at %c. off..
FivOUE.*—^The stock on the market is l^rge, and the*
demand light, bat increasing. The feeling ■ in
Northern brands a little better. We quote Northern
superfine, $7 00@9; extra, $9 00@11, and fiunily and
fancy, $12@1260. Good Georgia and Tennessee brands
are in fair demand at $10 50@11 for snperfine, $12 50
@13 50 for extra, and $13 60@14 00 for family and
fancy.'SJUC k , ' ' 1 ,
Gbain.—The stock of Georgia and Tennessee old
com is small and demand light. New com is coming
in very slowly, and in small lots. We quote from
depot 90@$1 05; from store at $1 15@1 20; old com
$1 15@1 20. Oats have not advanced since our last
report. We quote from depot at 90@95c in large
lots; from store at 95@$1 00.
Bacon.—The market is mash weaker and xiot active.
We quote shoulders at 14%@15%c^ rib sides at 17@
17%c, and clear ribbed atl7%@18%c. There are few
clqar aides offering, and prices are nominal at 18@18%c.
Hams, 23c.. Breakfast bacon is qoief at 19@20c. Dry
salted meats are in better demand. We quote should
ers at 13@l3%o; clear sides, 17%@lT%c; short ribb

on uplands. Limber nominal; offering ; at 36 shil
lings for hewn tor Liverpool, 38 • shillings to Queens
town for orders. Coastwise; To Nerw York, % of a
cent on uplands; domestics, $1. 00 ^ bale;, rice,
$2 50. By steam to Philadelphia, %c $1& on uplands ;
domestics, 75. To Baltimore by stein, %; by sad, nom
inal; by steam to Liverpool ^ of a cent ^ flj on cot
ton; to Havre I-cent gold lb on cotton. Cotton
by steam through to Boston, l%c 9,1b. With quite a 1
number of arrivals, there is no diminution in freight -
offerings; about all vessels reaching here having been
placed North. Rice is beginning to offer and soon'
cotton freights can be bad. We seeno reason to look
for a decline in lumber and timber freights, but with
thelarge quantity offering and few vessels on the way
unchartered, an advance would seem more likely!
We have to report a dullness in coastwise and Cubui
freights, due to scarcity of Vessels. Plenty of lumber
and timber awaiting shipment, and any vessel arriving
unchartered, will be readily placed, at good rates.
Lumber offering for several United States ports at
$11@13 00 gold. To Baltimore, boards, $9 00; re
sawed, $9 50. Resawed and tiipber to New York,
